The recent datamine found compatibility with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald so there is a high likelihood they will be released next. I would like to get all the main DS Pokemon games as well on the Switch but I assume the likelihood of that happening is much lower than R/S/E. I assume the original Gen 1 and 2 games will not be released since FR/LG basically are meant to be in place of Gen 1 and if they ever decide to re-release Gen 2 they will just release the DS remake.

Thank you for the advice. I guess I will buy one of the versions physically and get the other version digital during a sale. I will probably get the digital version on the PS5 due to Sony has a more consumer friendly policy with digital downloads (Allowing digital copy on more than one console whereas Nintendo having the virtual gamecard and Wii to Wii U upgrade fee on their virtual console games) and Switch games take up slightly less physical space than PS5 games.

I’m surprised about the complaints for this release. Didn’t for years people were asking for classic Pokemon games to come to the Switch and also many were not happy about the retro Nintendo games being locked behind a subscription? I get the complaints that this is one game with no quality of life upgrades and $20 seems high compared to retro collections like TMNT Cowabunga Collection or Castlevania Advanced or Dominus Collection. But we are getting what many were begging for during the past few years. It’s puzzling many say this is too expensive but doesn’t mind buying a drink at Starbucks for $6 or paying way more than $20 for other entertainment expenses.

For me, I feel $20 is worth it because I never played through the GBA Pokemon 22 years ago and $20 justifies the many hours of entertainment and memories I get out of it. I also want to support this release in hopes they will add more Classic Pokemon games to the Switch in the future.

I’m actually surprised at the criticism. For years people wanted the classic Pokemon games on the Switch and many (Including myself) were not happy retro games from Nintendo could not be purchased. Now we finally get one of the classic Pokemon games and there are so many complaints. Were there a lot of complaints when the Gen 1 Pokemon games came out on 3DS 10 years ago? I’m sure $10 price back then after inflation is close to the $20 today.

If you mean not being as part of subscription, it wouldn’t be good in the long run to lose the save data when they end the service. If you mean the price is too high, $20 is not bad. I think one of the people who leaked this release to be on eshop said $30. Outside of not being on NSO or the price I have no idea what greed refers to. I’m not defending Nintendo and I agree they are greedy when it comes to a lot of things but this release I 100% support. It’s what fans have been asking for since NSO launched.

I think back then Microsoft and even Sony had the right and better approach to how the digital downloads are treated. For Xbox, games you downloaded are tied to your account and can be downloaded to a second system you own under the same account and they carried over to the next gen system. Sony had almost similar approach although the PS3 downloads didn’t carry over to PS4 but I think carried over to Vita.

The Wii U upgrade was very anti consumer because on top of paying the upgrade fee (Wii U owners who never bought the same game on the Wii paid the same price as the people who paid on the original Wii and didn’t have to pay anything additional), all the downloads had to be transferred over to the Wii U to not get charged again the full price. I can’t help but feel this was a deliberate tactic and Nintendo could have followed Microsoft and Sony’s approach but chose not to.

I think in this regard it’s better that we got the subscription model, imagine having to transfer everything to Switch, pay another upgrade fee then again to the Switch 2 if they retained the virtual console model.

After buying a physical copy of Maiden of Black Water and posted my comment here I just realized from reading online that the expensive physical copies are actually Asian imports and the West only received a digital release. The cover art is all in English and fooled me into thinking it was a US release. I’m glad the new remake is getting a physical release outside of Asia.
