Re: Mario Strikers: Battle League Will Be Supported With Free Post-Launch Updates

DiggleDog

I’m torn. It’s obvious this game has way more polish and effort put into it than Mario’s other sports titles on Switch. I wouldn’t call the game unfinished, but bad practice is bad practice. Nintendo’s strategy to support games post launch are a mixed bag. They’ll do it for maybe a year and then pull the plug, draining the games of any meaningful incentive to come back to them. Characters are irritating when missing at launch but are ultimately superfluous additions that don’t anything that substantial. But that seems to be what Nintendo’s hedging it’s bets on, and based on previous games, it’s not going to work. Mario Golf is dead, Mario Tennis is dead, Animal Crossing was cut short well ahead of reaching its full potential. Smash is the only exception I can think of. Maybe Splatoon 2 with its splatfests.

Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Mod Updates Toad Circuit Grass

Nintendo set this level of expectation themselves when they initially released DLC for Mario Kart 8. The tracks released in those packs are some of the best content in the game imo, or at the very least, took full advantage of what was possible in the base game. The retro tracks, especially the GBA ones, were given a tremendous overhaul in scale and presentation. That’s the bar Nintendo set on the Wii U and that’s the bar people expected them to meet on the Switch. We know what DLC content for Mario Kart 8 looks like. Slightly zhuzhing up tracks made for a mobile game is a well below what they’re capable of.

Re: Mother 3 Producer Shares Thoughts On Localisation, And Why It Hasn't Happened

@Snatcher the main one that everyone references are the Magypsies: an ancient tribe of fairies who are described as having no gender but appear as middle aged men in drag. Much of their characterisation and dialogue is rooted in Japanese okama stereotypes. I don’t think it’d be impossible to localise them but I also see why no one has attempted to in an official capacity.

Re: Rumour: Super Mario Bros. Film Might Feature Redesigns For Mario & Luigi

The simple fact of the matter is that Mario has to change in order to be adapted for film. The setting is so abstract and broad in the games that you could never translate it 1:1. People are lauding the Sonic films all of a sudden as if they didn’t have the world’s most uphill battle to garner that favour, so I say give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Not a fan of Chris Pratt but Miyamoto being heavily involved gives me optimism until I see some footage.

Re: Nintendo Responds To Workers' Rights Complaint

Considering that a big part of Nintendo’s brand is making the executives (especially Reggie back in the day) appear like loveable goofs, this seems particularly icky to me. Hope it’s not true, and Nintendo firing for a breach of NDA sounds about right, but we’ve seen enough stories of companies abusing their employees in this industry for me to really be surprised.

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

I was thinking to myself recently that Kid Icarus Uprising sort of became what a dream Star Fox game would look like. Blistering and cinematic rail shooting, married with excellent ground combat that’s high on variety. All in a big budget but delightfully campy story where the characters are constantly bantering with one another. It even had an awkward control scheme too lol.
