New Hollow Knight: Silksong Trailer Features In Xbox Showcase, Out In "The Next 12 Months"

I'm hopeful for a release before 2022 ends. I think there's a good chance.

I can't escape the feeling that a big push behind the hype for this game is memetically manufactured.

So much for it being a Switch console exclusive.

On Twitter Microsoft confirmed that Silksong will be released within the next 12 month.

This is the main problem with such extravagant games now, development time is years. By the time this is released it’ll be about 4 years since it’s initial announcement.

Took really long to even get a release window for this game. Hopefully it's as good as expected.

@CharlieGirl Nah, Hollow Knight was hands down one of the best metroidvanias ever made at launch, with a ridiculous tail of free content updates after that. That team has earned as much hype and good will as they can get.

Hollow Knight is a genuinely phenomenal game, it’s up there with the very best for me.

Really hyped for this, I’ll just be happy to play it when it’s ready.

Hollowknight sits proudly beside Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night. I have no doubt Silksong will also deliver.

@zbinks I’d heard it was a launch exclusive as well. Maybe the exclusivity is only for a few months? Unless it’s gonna shadow drop after Nintendo’s direct later this month!

Persona is free. Coming to Xbox

It lives! If I’m not mistaken, Team Cherry is the skeletoniest of skeleton crews. This must’ve been an enormous undertaking. Looks amazing.

I might still get this whenever it shows up, kinda forgot and lost interest with this game a long time ago. :c

But yeah apparently this game is supposed to fix one of the biggest issues I had with the first game. I hated dying and then having to spend who knows how long getting back to a hard boss.

Microsoft did a very solid presentation. The bar was set very high for Nintendo!

@Benjinat Nintendo needs new hardware. Until then, most of the good new stuff is not going to the Switch, or it's coming in a watered down/gimped/cloud only format.

Either way who cares if it’s day one on everything or not anyway, it was always going to go to every platform. Launch exclusives are dumb anyway if other platforms are being worked on at the same time just let everyone play it

@kingbk it’s not really that. The fact is that Nintendo announced way too many of their 1st party games for this year. So the direct from Nintendo will be pretty boring because it will be on games for this year. Honestly, I will be perfectly fine if there is no Nintendo Direct for June because they are packed for now.

But who knows, let’s wait and see

When Microsoft comes to you with a GamePass money, you take it. This would especially be the case for Team Cherry, who consists of like 5 employees.

Weird we will see WW3 before an indie game announced 4 years ago...It's not like it has super high poly 3d models, nor are they lacking the cash now to hire some more monkeys to do additional work. Shrugs, hype has long since died for me, will wait for a sale at this point.

The Xbox Show case was Boring asf, only saved by Starfield which looks fantastic.
Nintendo just needs to show any of they're anticipated games in the next direct to do better, really not that hard.

I don’t remember Team Cherry saying anything about Silksong being Switch exclusive. They planned on launching on PC, macOS, Linux, and Switch, and possibly Xbox and Playstation later on. Hollow Knight did really well on the Switch and the release there probably got the majority of the current fan base. Microsoft comes along and wants it on Gamepass. Rightfully so.

Maybe there was no release date or year because they already had a deal with Nintendo to have that a future Direct. Speaking of a Direct, can we please get the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on Switch?

did not get the hype, at all. the aesthetic was cool, but it felt like every other metroidvania.

@QueenKittenWrite I thought they showed some really cool stuff, Benedict Fox and Cocoon look great and Persona on Xbox is cool (gives a bit more hope for Switch ports to finally happen at least). I just cannot for the life of me get excited over extended looks at first person shooters or realistic racing games- just pleeeease show a trailer and move on. Starfield- fine, it’s a hugely anticipated game but 6 minutes of Redfall…6 minutes of Forza with them talking about how you can see the individual scratches on a car…come on.

@QueenKittenWrite I don't "hate" Nintendo. The Switch actually is my favorite console, perhaps of all time. But the Switch hardware is aging badly, and the overall recent output of games, sans Metroid Dread and Kirby, has been underwhelming. A lot of games releasing unfinished like Mario Strikers, games being released as cloud versions only, or just an overall decline of third party output. And this trend will only continue as the technology gap grows between the Switch and PS5/Xbox S-X.

I loved hollow knight, i really did, when they announced Silksong i felt like my world was finnaly complete but it has been in development that now I feel like i dont care anymore 😕

I've really got to get around to finishing the first one.

@HotGoomba To be fair, that sums up the comments when literally any game showed up on stream. 99% of the comments were either 'Mobile graphics', 'Major L', 'Next', or 'When's X'

Hollow Knight is my favorite game of all time.
My hype for Silksong could not be higher.

As a Kickstart backer, I'm already guaranteed a digital Switch copy for free, but I'll buy the physical as well.

For those declaring Nintendo has nothing to show for a Direct, I'd say we wait until an actual Direct before making such claims. I mean, we already know we still are waiting for more info on a handful of games. So there's that. But we also don't have any idea what Nintendo has been possibly working on that they may want to use to fill in the gaps between big releases.

They were focused on games coming in the next 12 months but then again they did have the announcement of that kojima game which is probably still atleast 3 years away

@UmbreonsPapa I think they don’t need a direct. They are already packed for the year and they could shadow drop trailers for demos and release dates for upcoming games.

Also, they will show like upcoming games announced. I’m just saying that there will probably won’t be any new games from Nintendo or not much new games from Nintendo.

@Orokosaki It basically is free though because if you backed the game you were never guaranteed for them to hit the Hornet stretch goal anyway- you paid for the base game and anything extra was a bonus. Even if you paid after that goal was hit the only thing promised was Hornet as a playable character in the original, not an entirely new game

@mezoomozaa never count Nintendo out. That was a great Xbox presentation, but all Nintendo will have to do is properly show BoTW 2 and fans will lose their sh**. Who knows, we may even get Metroid Prime Triology or even a look at Prime. 4.

Putting that aside, loads of games on today's Xbox showcase I'm looking forward to. Can't decide which one I'll play first.

Apparently it was later reiterated on Twitter that a ‘playable build’ would be ready sometime in the next 12 months.
This doesn't necessarily mean a full release……a beta test or demo are also a possibility.
It’s also missing from the Infographic thing with all the titles being released over the next 12 months so I wouldn’t be holding my breath for it coming anytime soon.

The Xbox show was mid except for this and Starfield imo I don't even own an Xbox, was just watching to see if the banjo Kazooie thing was true

@CharlieGirl That's fine you aren't into the game but it's not hyped because of memes and it's silly to think so 🙄 Many ppl see it as an excellent entry into the Metroidvania style of games and have been hyped for years now. Considering the funding, sales, positive feedback and critical acclaim, I'd say it's hyped because ppl are hyped about the game. Memes coming out of that is just an effect of it being long awaited. Not the other way around. It's not long awaited because of memes.

I bet they will say the release date in the next Nintendo Direct.

@larryisaman Silksong was never created to be exclusive. Since the announcement there is already a page on the Steam store (pc / steam deck). I'm about to pre-order it on Steam.

More the reason to get me to sit down and actually play through the first game.

Microsoft XBOX is smashing it. Team Cherry did the right decision and I hope they got well compensated. I have GamePass subscription for the next 3 years, nevertheless I will buy Silksong on XBOX and Switch day 1

@Bunkerneath They never said it was Switch exclusive. They said it would launch on Switch and PC first and other platforms could happen later, but that was 3 years ago, plenty of time for them to decide to work on the other ports for a simultaneous release

(BIG emphasis on the word "feels." maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right, but I can't shake the feeling that Hollow Knight is a bit overblown.)

@AmplifyMJ Agreed, it's one of the best games I've ever played. Funnily enough I didn't like it when I first played it. I bought it launch, played a few hours then put it down for a good 6 months or more. Started anew and then got so hooked that it was all I played until I finished it, something I rarely do. Recently, I have been considering playing through it again but I'm not sure if I should. I don't want to spoil any memories and my backlog is too big to replay 90 hour epics haha.

@OorWullie my experience was exactly the same! Don’t think I dropped it for six months, but it didn’t grab me at first… but when it did! It was just a fantastic experience. I have honestly considered playing it again too this past week!

@CharlieGirl I didn't enjoy it the first time I played it , to the point I stopped playing it after a few hours and didn't go back to it until months later. I started over again and played it to completion and it's for sure one of the best games I've ever played. It's an absolutely enormous game, fairly slow burning and initially frustrating. But after a while, once you start gaining new powers and getting to grips with it's sprawling world, the game really comes into itself. It hooked me like very few games ever have in my 40 years of gaming and left a huge impression on me. For me, Hollow Knight is worthy of all the praise it gets and more.
