Capcom has had yet another hugely successful year. In a report published by the company today, it has announced that its operating income in the year ending March 2022 is up by 24% and net income is up by 30.6% compared to the 2020-2021 period. That means Capcom has had nine consecutive years of operating income growth.
A lot of the company's success comes from its huge sales numbers in its core Digital Contents business. Game sales hit another record high over the last year, with the company selling 32.6 million units — up on the already staggering 30.1 million units from the last year. This was driven by the release of a brand new Resident Evil game — Resident Evil Village — and the RPG spin-off to the Monster Hunter series — Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin — which has sold over 1.5 million copies.
Other aspects that have helped the company's growth are down to merchandise, eSports business, and Arcade Operations. And of course, Capcom has a pretty hefty back catalogue, with Monster Hunter Rise alone shipping 8 million units by January 2022, with 4.1 million of those coming in the last year alone. Rise also launched on PC in January, which no doubt will see those numbers increase even more. All of this has led to this past year being the company's fifth consecutive year of record-high profit.
Looking ahead, with the Sunbreak expansion releasing in June, and Street Fighter 6's reveal earlier this year, it's no surprise then that Capcom is expecting another year of increased sales. It expects to end the next fiscal year on an operating income of 48,000 million yen, up on this year's 42,909 million yen.
That's a lot of money and numbers, and it's making us feel a little bit dizzy. But it's a fantastic success story for Capcom which has continued to push out quality titles. We got some more details on Monster Hunter Rise's upcoming expansion yesterday, which you should check out if you're interested:

No Switch but Resident Evil Village was great though. Cant wait for new RE on Switch. And MH Rise showed everyone how to put effort in a Switch game
I’m hoping Capcom begins to diversify its portfolio again. Ghosts ‘n Goblins and the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles were fun surprises.
I may get Stories but Sunbreak is happening later this year for sure. It+Rise may be the game that finally gets me into the series.
Really wish they would do a power stone 3 for switch it’s got the potential to sell like smash if done right!
Really looking forward to what Capcom's going to come up with next. MH Sunbreak is going to be a ton of fun and Stories 2 was just a lovely game that I still need to finish. They're definitely among my top videogame producers and have been rightly so since the SNES days.
@dimi there is no new RE for Switch. Those are all bogus rumors
With all that profit up it would be nice if Capcom would increase the discount amount for many of its games. They still ask for too much, even on sale, for Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
I still haven’t picked up Rise, because… I’ve yet to play a MH game 😅 and I’m not sure if it’s a good one to try first. I did watch the trailer yesterday and was very, very interested.
Also the free RE upgrades for PS5/XSX later this year is wonderful. Capcom is on fire 🔥
Well-deserved. Several of the best games released in the last few years were developed by Capcom. They've really stepped up their game as of late.
@Enriesto MH Rise is pretty much the most accessible and player-friendly entry in the series to date. Can't think of a better place to start, frankly.
@Enriesto
If your curious about jumping into the MH series I’d say MH Rise is the most accessible entry yet. I highly recommend you give the game a try, it’s a massive series with a vast amount of gameplay options for everyone. There is definitely a learning curve but it’s a rewarding game, nothing beats hunting with friends, one of gaming finest multiplayer experiences. Once it sinks it’s teeth in you …you’re a Monster Hunter for life!
I love how monster hunter has became one of capcom's best selling series world wide and not just in japan.
@Rainz This! When I first played MH3U it took a while for it to click with me but once it did...well the rest is history! Played every game since, one of my all time favourite series. The community is great too
Happy to see this as I really want to see Capcom remain independent amid all the consolidation these days. Strong financials should give them less of a reason to consider a buyout. Still, with all the money and success they seem to be enjoying, I’m still a little jaded about the decision not to bring the Disney Afternoon Collection to Switch. In fact, If they put it on a physical cartridge, I would probably shell out a full $60 for it.
@Rainz @Ralizah thanks fam. I guess I know how I’m spending end of June. 😎
Okay Capcom time to give us that Ultra Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil Revelations 3 or a port of Resident Evil 2, 3 (the originals, not the remakes), and Code Veronica.
And think how much more profits they would have if they stopped shafting Europe with digital only releases.
Please capcom , me n couple of friends was wish New Resident Evil on Nintendo switch port or new Title
@MeloMan that's only on Nintendo they're alot more generous on other platforms
Sunbreak is the only thing Nintendo are getting that im looking forward to.
But that being said im anticipating around 200 hours of content, which is perfect because after Pokemon Legends Arceus, that's enough for me for 2022 on the Switch.
All Capcom does now is monster hunter, resident evil, street fighter. When was the last time we got anything MegaMan related?
@Bryon15 Mega Men 11 in 2018?
I wonder if those units sold totals count Arcade Stadium purchases separately because those can add up.
