@Phostachio it’s honestly hilarious watching the big 3 take turns being the best value proposition. Xbox, after being raked over the coals for DRM and no used game sales being their pitch for last gen, are now the only ones meaningfully embracing backwards compatibility and offering far and away the best subscription package.
Omg I had no idea this was a remaster in the works. The Wii game was such an oasis at a time when violent, edgy games were the dominant trend. Will definitely be picking it up.
Not thinking about upgrading right away as my PS4 has mileage yet but I think I’d go with the Series X for Gamepass and backwards compatibility. When it comes to exclusive games, Nintendo’s are really the only ones that pique my interest.
Ah Jaysus. This is why we need virtual consoles. I’d much rather play an old and dated game and appreciate it in the context of its original release, priced accordingly and preserved for a modern audience.
Now that Nintendo is releasing new and exciting again at a good pace, I’m okay with the odd remaster to plug up a gap in the schedule. I’m also hopeful that the vocal criticisms of 3D All Stars’ pricing will persuade them to be more sensible if it’s only Prime 1 they’re re-releasing.
Nintendo’s consoles have struggled since the N64 and I think the constant reinvention can be attributed to them trying to find something that consumers will not only gravitate towards, but stick with. The Switch is in this position, selling units and enjoying high player retention, and if you look at Nintendo’s dedicated handhelds, where they’ve always dominated, each new product has been a meaningful but familiar upgrade of what came before.
I also just really want them to stick with the Switch concept lol.
If I was an overworked underpaid dev, only to be called lazy by an armchair game designer who’s never worked a day in their life, I’d probably go on a rampage.
Metroid Dread was short but also felt exceptionally polished and fulfilling to play. I feel it lives up to its potential. On the other hand, I found the Resident Evil 3 Remake to be a game so short and bereft of substance that I came away feeling bitter. I’d also feel that way if I got the impression a quote on quote huge game was brazenly padded with tedium to reach that status.
@andykara2003 because fanboys have no problem feigning outrage at toxic workplaces in the gaming industry until underrated Nintendo darling Metroid is involved.
That’s very disappointing to hear. Dread is an excellent game but that appears to be in spite of the environment it was made it. I think MercurySteam has a lot of potential and if Nintendo continues to collaborate with them, perhaps they can better monitor the situation. Unfortunately, I’ll be pretty wary of any games with their name on it going forward.
I think it’s going to be interesting to see the numbers when the expansion pass releases. People have grumbled about Nintendo’s past decisions but it was either buy it or tough. Joy con drifting? Buy another one. Waiting for Mario 3D All Stars to go on sale? We’re permanently delisting it.
Now we’re in a situation where what Nintendo is offering is more or less a frivolous add on of no real importance and debatable value. Base Switch add on is pretty bad but it satisfies the basic necessity of allowing you to play games online. For many, I suspect that’s enough.
People need to remember that Shigesato Itoi isn’t interested in making new Mother games, hence Nintendo isn’t either. I wish they’d port them to the NSO virtual console though. Gorgeous comic.
The man was instrumental in shaping the identity of Dragon Quest and the JRPG. Unfortunately I’m not going to overlook the kind of person he was underneath, nor should anyone, but I’m looking forward to seeing how his monumental musical legacy is carried on.

One of the best eras indeed, and I spent it playing poor quality movie tie-in game after poor quality movie tie-in game.

@Blizzia why wouldn’t they speak up at a time when the studio is in the public zeitgeist. Far more likely their story will catch people’s attention.
