@EarthboundBenjy maybe Capcom will do that in Asia. It already did a compilation (bundling separate releases in a larger box) of MM LC 1&2 and MMX LC 1&2 in Japan. I think that was the only was to get MMX LC2 on cart as well.
I’m still hoping Assault Suit Leynos 2 gets fixed. I waited specifically for the Switch version, which came out a few weeks before the new console, but Switch 2 won’t run it.
The year is 30XX. Humankind has achieved a utopian society.
Digital Foundry: “This 1,000-year-old game runs flawlessly during gameplay, with the Nintendo Itch beaming its 3D imagery into your mind’s eye with crystal-clear resolution and frame pacing. It’s a shame it still drops 1 frame during a transition, though. It really broke us out of Mario’s galaxy and made us lose bowel control momentarily.”
@Ironcore Had Taito simply followed the same contents as the four-volume memories series, I’d have been delighted. Each of those had tons of games, many of which were excellent. Still a shame the last two volumes were Japan-only.
@masterLEON It’s a compilation, which includes Life Force, Nemesis II (MSX game), Salamander, Salamander 2, and Xexex.
After Gradius Collection (Gradius Portable in Japan), Konami released three additional collections of shooters, but only in Japan sadly. They were easy to import back in ten day and didn’t cost a fortune.
The Twin Bee one includes Bells & Whistles, Pop ‘n Twinbee, Twin Bee Yahho! Fushigi no Kuni de Daiabare!!, and TwinBee.
The Parodius one – my favourite – features Gokujou Parodius!, Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius: Forever With Me, Parodius, Parodius Da!, and Sexy Parodius.
@EarthboundBenjy If only the compilation included V or Rebirth. Those always felt a little fairer to me than the earlier games. I don’t recall Gaiden being as tough until near the end, either.
@masterLEON It was part of Salamander compilations on PSone and PSP, but I think those were only released in Japan. I have the PSP collection, along with the ones for Parodius and Twin Bee. Thank goodness for that handheld being region-free.
I’ve ordered and been happy with a few games from SLG, but during these difficulties it describes it gave a “this is the final delay” statement for a bunch of these titles, which is now long past. The company seems full of *****, tbh. I have a single order remaining with it, for a game I would very much like on cart. Cancelled a few other orders, three of which are mentioned above. At least it had the decency to quickly return my money.
Saying that, how much is a series S atm? How much is Switch OLED? Not much difference in it, hence my comment that I’m expecting a straight swap in for the current model.
With this unofficial translation and how it’s been said Nintendo is building up supply to ensure broad availability at launch, perhaps implying components aren’t necessarily cutting edge/expensive, I’m reading the lack of Switch 1 price drop plan as Nintendo planning to just swap out the old hardware for the new at the same of]r very close to its current price.
@4rvcolem1 The original Rogue Squadron 3D is re-released already, at least on PC (via GOG). I’d still like a proper remake of the three games, and a simple remaster of Battle for Nabokov.
With previous talk of stockpiled units, I will LOL so hard if Nintendo ignores all this and waits till the last day of its financial year to announce the thing can be preordered immediately/next day.
@Blofse It is included. Mine arrived from the US yesterday, a few days ahead of expectation. The comic is tiny, of course, and it has that freshly printed smell.
That said, please retake your screenshots over HDMI in docked mode. Never mind the lack of animation in them, the game looks way better even in still than the current shots look to me.
The LucasArts comparison is bang on the money. I’ve on.y played the first couple of parts and though it isn’t as outright zany like Sam & Max Hit the Road and Day of the Tentacle, it’s a lot closer to their humour than, say, Full Throttle.
The voice acting is very much like those games’ CD versions as far as I’ve progressed.
While there’s plenty yet for me to savour, I hope this leads to many more adventures of this graphical, aural, and script quality.
@quinnyboy58 probably a high percentage of templated gameplay. For me, BK, BT, and DK64 were passable at the time but haven’t really held up well after this long. They feel so painfully slow.
LOL, Eurogamer struggling to find the fun in games seems like a pretty good summation of the site of late, especially its dramas with articles from Digital Foundry moaning about good games ruined by fairly small performance blemishes.
Seems like overthinking versus placing too much importance on the social marketing side of a teaser. The announcement and media coverage that follows are what really matters.
Still have the ambassador version of the New 3DS, with the special faceplates, plus some alternative plates including the wood effect Mario. Barely touched it; was always meant to keep it in good condition.
@The_Trooper49 it’s getting a cart version. Good but not foolproof way to confirm this kind of thing is to lookup the game on your local site from Nintendo itself and select Details. UK site confirms physical version for that country, so likely across all of Europe.
Game Boy because its stackable and the cart size and concave logo area gives a good grip for removing without fingers getting on the game’s label. NES had a similarly well-thought out grip but it’s less important with so much unlabelled area to grip.
@YANDMAN Last releases of those were, I think, on the two volumes of Taito Memories II that were released on PS2 in Japan. So, a couple of decades ago now.
@nocdaes Bubby and Bobby are Bub and Bob's names, respectively, in human form. Those forms do appear at the end of the original Bubble Bobble, as well as Rainbow Islands of course.
The beauty of this is Nintendo has two games ready to go, no remake necessary just translations, in the form of GBA and GameCube sequels it could stick on the online service. Go on, Nintendo, resurrect the old Wii Hanabi Festivals on Switch and bring us some unreleased games to the West.
Oh, please let this be followed by releases of Memories and Symphony. Those games shouldn’t be locked away on old PS2 compilations (in Japan) and the egret II mini.
There’s one vital aspect of this game that might be a pain to use on Switch: the castle map, specifically if you’re going for complete traversal percentage. Whether playing on an old 14-inch CRT or a 49-inch TV on PS4, I found it a little hard to spot places I hadn’t been to near the story’s end. I don’t believe it has a zoom mode, so if a Switch version were to happen (LRG’s recent post about having a PSone emulator for Switch and it’s established relationship with Konami offer some hope), I’d like to see that retrofitted.

Wonderful. I’m so glad to know that the revered numbers-obsessed site has deemed the game as having a sufficient fun-per-frame rating. 😏

@PKDuckman If not, at least Switch lets you change button assignments in Settings.
