The game is great of what I played so far. I felt the same about the art from outside, but inside of the world I’ve gotten quite used to it! It’s charming, I enjoy the story so far, and I look forward to continuing my progress in it. I agree with the others who say if you like TTYD this is surely to be up your alley.
I absolutely love the Knives Out series (and Poker Face), and I have this game on my steam wl. Not sure if I’ll just take the plunge from there or wait and see if it comes out on Switch in some way. It’s right up my alley as I mostly play mystery/detective games. Dangaronpa is probably my number 1 for the year unless Deca Police makes a striking return. With the way Level 5 has been back in top form with a vengeance, I’m really looking forward to that one a lot. But yeah, I hope this one comes to Switch at some point too!
Sigh. I hope this doesn’t make them want to place measures to limit creativity they deem wrong like with Miiverse and Kirby Air Riders. Sometimes they are waaaay too strict with everything.
@AllBLK Exactly. I still love Nintendo to a degree, but wow, I expected to be more inclined to play my Switch 2 more, and yet, I just finished customizing a New 3ds XL and it’s crazy how in awe I was over the themes and the life that’s breathed into just moving over games on the Home Screen and getting a moving icon and sound bite for them. Donkey Kong Banaza’s DLC kind of deflated me a bit, and now this…I’m kind of checking out for the time being.
I’ve said I wasn’t interested in this from the start. People are free to love this game and I understand that, but I feel like the mobile phone version did animal crossing more of a disservice than I’d have liked. Allowing more friends onto the island isn’t going to change the fact that there is literally nothing to truly do with each other like there was in New Leaf. Where are the mini games you cowards??! (lol) If you enjoy customization and achieving complete sets, then this is the game for you. I miss when I felt more engaged to talk to my little animal buddies.
A game like Animal Crossing deserves more at this point. Each citizen should have more original personality. Two lazy villagers shouldn’t sound near identical. They can be lazy sure but they should have different text threads from each other. That’s just a few of my issues with the game and why I sold it years prior. It’s a humongous disappointment to me and there’s plenty of other similar games that offer more to the platter these days for me to pretend that it’s a better New Leaf, when it feels so much more lackluster than it.
Gaming will eventually reach a ceiling. There’s only so much progress you can make graphically until you reach the inevitable top. Until then, I’ll enjoy the ride and hope for quality along the way.
@Pillowpants Quite a bit is wrong. The left hand is wrong. His shoe buckle is wrong. The white part of his shoe also isn’t accurate. Too many spikes on the back of his head. It can probably do better than that now, but this picture gets worse the longer you look at it. n.n;
The mutated piglet children made me sad along with the toxic waste in the water they wanted to play in. But the thing that truly traumatized me was the poor ice cube that wanted to return to his wife and burned alive. ‘Tell my wife I love h—-‘ always makes me want to tear up when I play that game.
Personally, I still don’t think I feel inclined to boot this game. Multiplayer doesn’t offer mini games to play with or anything that would make me want to play with 11 other people for hours on end. Awesome for those that’ll enjoy what’s on offer though.
For the first time in my gaming life, I’m considering cutting back on Nintendo hard core. The pricing is egregious. I took one look at the amiibo pricing and decided this might be it. Do I want to? No. But the price hikes and paid DLCs and little additional content for the DLC which could have been added for a cheaper price or even free is adding up. I’m reaching burn out and this console gen just started. I was so happy at announcement and slowly I feel like I’m being pushed out and I own the Switch 2.
Sigh. Another game I refuse to support. I'm not going to be a cash cow for half-baked games sorry Bandai. You're in the career of a lifetime for this. Please do better next time. Thank you.
I’m old, but I thought this game had issues even on current gen systems. Sooooo that means the Switch 2 sucks? How the heck is that a logical conclusion to jump to? Cyberpunk alone, release day game as it was to boot, debunks that. And we know these AAA supposed companies want your buck on the quick and darn do will they actually try in order to earn it. Half baked and more than a little undercooked more often than perfectly edible out of the gate. I gave up on AAA developers for that reason. I need extreme consistency before I give them another dime. I’m tired of laziness in the games industry earning a quick turn around of what is most likely hard earned money by their consumer base. No just no. Do better first.
If the characters were named and the wheel chairs more distinct, I think this would have been a cool one like Arms and Splatoon with their vibrancy. It is a bit drab as someone mentioned earlier. I keep forgetting about it. The game doesn’t have that thing that makes you feel you need to play it unfortunately.
I’ll be dead and gone before it even becomes a thought, but my wish is for them to consider an Animal Crossing Biome. Different islands with differing environments outside of what is their stereotypical average village where our villager moves in. Such as a desert or an island with snow all year round. Each biome island can house 10 villagers and have a store and something unique to that particular island. We can have vacation homes, which I’m stealing from Fantasy Life on 3DS. Villagers should also be more fleshed out. Two lazy characters should have differing dialogue from the other to give each villager specifically more characterization. I would love if they truly expanded and did more in that regard.
The western mindset isn’t matched by the Japanese. The idea of something new doesn’t effect the joy that can be had with a switch. The switch is fun and I agree. I don’t care that it’s an 8 year old system. Sure, it’d be nice to have more content thanks to a more powerful console, but with what’s on the system already, I enjoy it more than using the steam deck. The switch I just play, the steam deck I have to adjust the settings to get the same game going. I just prefer playing it on switch at that point.
I get it. People on this side of the pond want the new and shiny. It’s why certain phone companies can sell millions with little further advancement to the phone year per year. I do my best to take it day by day. Tomorrow will come for most, but focus on enjoying your time now. We have no idea if we’ll even be around tomorrow.
When I was a kid, I was in awe over BK and BT. They felt miraculous. Tooie was awesome from the standpoint of having so many interconnected ways to enter different worlds. I loved following the digger tracks around to where the witches had been. It was amazing game design for its time and I’m so glad we got it and just wish things could have ended differently.
Of course that announcement in general most likely cut into sales too. Nobody wants to buy a new system with a new one on the horizon. Can’t wait for Mario and Luigi to release though.
I just wonder if people feel this way about all games with direct sequels. There’s hardly ever any art changes or grand design merits that makes the game feel extremely fresh. It’s a direct sequel. It was never advertised differently. That doesn’t make it mere dlc. This game in Zelda lore is directly tethered to BotW because of it. I feel like they did a superb job taking something many were familiar with and yet turning it in a way that it did feel different. I enjoyed it a lot. Is Olliolli so different from olliolli 2? Guacamelee to guacamelee 2? Horizon, Spiderman, the list goes on and on but this game receives that criticism alone and I just always scratch my head because nobody calls direct sequel games mere dlc normally. Just kinda weird to me.
The policies may be bad, but I like my local store. The employees are fun to talk to, and the five dollar off coupon has paid for itself and made my amiibo collecting pretty smooth. Got my Xenoblade amiibo there for retail price a few weeks after release when I thought hope would be lost. There were even some buy two get one free promos I used to get some Gameboy games and a used 3ds xl in a store from them as well.
I just love how Switch Pro was the train ride everyone took a few years ago to then go bust, and now this. lol But it would be cool if they released a new console. (Nintendo shill fo lyfe!!! lol)
Personally, I don’t see it happening this year. While sales are slowing, they are still high, and Switch never had a price cut. I’m willing to be a minority and call it a Switch Pro (like the new 3ds line that made a few games that weren’t compatible with the og hardware) release for this year and the next gen system in a different year. With the highs and lows of past Nintendo systems, I’d be awed if they release a new system in the flow of now. Especially when you’re still selling your current bread and butter comfortably. It’s just gamer bro elites complaining about needing more power.
But again I’d love to be wrong. I’m ready for the future!!!
Honestly, there can be some truth to it. There are times where people let gaming consume them. My sister is, sadly, one such person. It’s to the point her mobility is being affected. And I’ve seen stories where adult children have sent their families poor. Yes, on one side of the coin, gaming is a great outlet, but on the other, there are times where people don’t know when enough is enough.
I’m so happy that the Pikmin series is doing so well! It brings a smile to my face that maybe when I say Pikmin people won’t stare at me with a blank expression.
Can’t the main character just be a straight guy? It isn’t like they haven’t begun moving towards inclusion within their games (though, yeah, I 100% agree they can always do better in that aspect for sure). I just don’t think being that overly critical of a remake is necessary. Everyone isn’t going to be like us, and that’s fine. There’s not even a woman or non-binary to play as either, and that’s fine. It’s simply how this game was developed originally. It doesn’t have to be a negative. And I feel that way about movies. Give us better and more thought out fresh, new experiences. I don’t think they always have to change the core direction of a game from the past in order to cater to us all. I just ask for a playable and enjoyable gaming experience that isn’t broken.
I’m so hyped!!! I’ve been waiting so long for this game, which at a time, I thought would never come. Bring F-Zero along for the Switch train at some point, and the library will definitely be one of the greatest treats this gen.

All I can say is: wow. To mirror earlier commenters, it's crazy to treat this like a f2p, but charge for the 'base' game. Guh, I'm really happy I'm someone that can enjoy a well crafted indie game because in this era of gaming, there's more gold to be had in that market of games than there is in the AAA spaces, where fleecing you of your precious hard earned cash seems to be all they want to be good at. Unfortunate, but nothing much was lost.
I don’t really see the con as a con. All FE games don’t have to have a social/romance aspect. Pokémon Snap isn’t about capturing Pokémon for instance. At least not in its traditional sense. If it’s a darn good game regardless, which appears to be the case, I doubt I’ll miss it much.
I’ve been bouncing between Toem and Coromon. Toem is just relaxing and fun, while Coromon gets me ready for when I inevitably buy Pokémon next month. I also have P5R waiting in the wings. I paid $17 to upgrade for a year of the expansion pass because I wanted to play banjo kazooie on the go. The way I did it made it cheaper than a year without the expansion so I didn’t mind.
