Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Update to Bring Bug Fixes and Map Improvements

Desa

I'm really loving the game so far, and I have to admit that I love the idea of more content more so now than I did before release, though I still have yet to actually purchase the pass.
The 'X' button fix is actually something I didn't know I wanted, but can see myself appreciating quite a bit.

Thanks for improving the game Monolith Soft!

@Kirizame
While I still hold on to the fact that technically there is no such thing as a flawless game in the first place, I appreciate that you can at least back up why you wouldn't be in agreement with the reviewer. Your bullet points do more to shed light on what can be found within the game that the review itself, so I appreciate you taking the time to list these for me. (:

I was in no way defending the score. I actually agree with plenty here that say the review is light in information that would explain definitively why they could give it a flawless recommendation, however, it is still true that a lot of other reviewers scored it highly so there has to be something there.

I haven't played the game to say rather this score is true or not. My point was simply that it's funny that many criticize the review score without even playing it. A review is just that person's opinion based on their experience with the game themselves after all.

Personally, I just see the 10, and the other high scores given to this game, as letting me know that the game is enjoyable for what it is for the catch 'em all genre, but again, no 10 will ever be received unanimously. The timing for this game was all wrong. This should have been a gap year, or they could have released the new content as DLC as you said.

@KTT
And I hope you have a great experience with it, and that they tweaked the overall performance and the frames are steady.
If possible, I would like to hear what you think about it once you play it. I really don't think I'll pick it up myself with so many Switch games out or coming soon on the horizon.

Still, if they didn't adjust any of those things the score really wouldn't be justified because it does effect the gameplay negatively. I honestly hope they did, since there is no reason not to iron out what the originals got wrong.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

@JubilifeRival
Hmm, maybe it is souped up.
Or these games could be an honest improvement and then some with the added content.
I'm more into community reviews anyway because normally you come to your own conclusion upon reading a few different ones.
Kind of like famitsu(which got four 9s from them btw) but more honest I think.
Either way, I won't know personally because I have no interest in picking this up.
I just think it's hard to judge the reviewers score as off without actually being able to back it up because you haven't played or experienced it. ^^;

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Desa

@KTT
I played the game, I finished the game, and I can admit that I didn't notice any of those performance issues, or if I did, I didn't let it bother me for long since I don't remember them now. In the end, I enjoyed them for what they were, though they were far from my favorites.

However, I get that reviewers should nitpick games for performance issues and plenty of other things too of course. That should shine through, the same way I agree that this review could have way more explained, even if it is more comparing and contrasting between the two. Something more than, as you said, we could find out just from reading the games page.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Desa

@KTT
I never said games without performance issues of any kind. It's honestly rare to find a game with a 10/10 on various sites, or not, that do not have any at all. It's just not a bar that many, if any, games achieve.

In that way reviewers are kind of in a tight spot. How do they judge a game? Should any game get a 10? If a game has a 10 I just automatically assume that it'll be fun and enjoyable, and not frustrating like the camera jerking in crazy ways. On an overall scale, most people will have a great time with it. You will never please everyone, but most will love it.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Desa

@leostacks
Cheapens a ten? Really?
If the game is enjoyable, playable, and has close to no performance issues which means a greater number of people will have a great time with the purchase, I don't see what the problem is.

I do understand how you feel, but what's the point of holding off from a ten?
Nintendolife doesn't score to the decimal point like other sites do, so it could be rounding up to the closest whole number.
Each site has their way of doing things after all.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Desa

@tsdenizen
I understand how you feel. Honestly, I have zero interest in the title because I played sun and moon.

My point is that, when the reviewer played, he felt the new features improved upon that experience.

Considering we haven't actually played it ourselves, while we may not feel it to be 10 quality, it may be a worthy experience, especially for those grabbing this game for the first time. This was the reviewers opinion on it.

Simply because of how soon it released after the first game and that it wasn't exactly an outstanding experience, its easy to say that this game has to suck. But I haven't played it. It could be better in every way.

And I said what I did because if this game isn't worthy of a ten I want to hear why not from someone else who has played it. Community reviews are usually what I pay attention to more anyway.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

Desa

This review is already under attack.

If you want to go around claiming these games aren't deserving of the score given, it must mean you have played these games yourself correct? ^^

I'd love to listen but only if you can describe what it is that truly takes away from this game. I'm all ears. (:

Re: Capcom to Bring Increased Support and Ace Attorney to Switch in 2018

Desa

@Late
The new games feel a bit easier than that of the original trilogy. It kind of walks you through where you need to be, like when examining a room.

In the old games, you had way more freedom to walk around and explore as you saw fit. Sometimes getting lost on what it was you needed to do next. I like the new games, but they are missing a bit of something the original trilogy had. At least to me.

Re: Capcom to Bring Increased Support and Ace Attorney to Switch in 2018

Desa

The only way I can really be happy with this is if it includes The Great Ace Attorney (2 pack with the second game would be epic) and maybe an Investigations 2 pack for us here in the west. I already own every Ace Attorney available to us on both ds and 3ds. I can't see myself triple dipping. And in the case of the first game quad dipping since I own it on Wii U.

Re: Bandai Namco To Announce Three Big Switch Titles Early Next Year

Desa

@JJ286
It's obviously a Wii U successor just by viewing Nintendo's very own actions.
The Wii U is kaput and they are still supporting the 3ds until next year!

The 3ds didn't even have HD graphics, or any of the good bells and whistles that Switch brings, so it's more of a mash up of what the Wii U controller did, but more on the go and disconnected. The Wii U was just a filler episode until the Switch released.

Yes, it's portable, but in the eyes of Nintendo itself, the Nintendo Switch was a Wii U replacement. Besides, its the best of both worlds anyway. Want to play on your TV? Or sitting with friends in tabletop mode? Or just in handheld mode on a bus? There's a way to play for everyone.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Gets Expansion Pass and Surprise Breath of the Wild Crossover

Desa

Would have been better off if they waited a month or two after release to talk about expansion passes.

The game isn't even in anyones homes and they're talking about adding content to a game none of us has played yet? It'd be more suiting AFTERWARDS because then MAYBE people will be almost done with the core game and would be like 'hey, this is cool because I loved how final and finished the main campaign was! At least I get to continue to journey well into 2018!', but talking about new content for a game we haven't played yet is...pretentious. Especially with that horrible looking price tag. Bleh.

Re: Review: Poi: Explorer Edition (Switch)

Desa

@OorWullie
I agree with that. That's why I opted to get the physical version. If the digital was 15 like on other platforms I would have bought it at that price point, but considering I get discounts on physical games I decided that was the best option for this game for me.

I do think its a bad trend, and I hope it changes somewhere soon down the line. Even with bonus content it doesn't warrant a 15 dollar increase.

Re: Review: Poi: Explorer Edition (Switch)

Desa

I bought this and plan to play it before Odyssey. I know I'm in a minority, but it looks charming. Sure, compared to Mario, its going to be buried due to being released way too close, but I personally will enjoy both of these titles.

Re: NBA 2K18 Patch #4 Goes Live Soon, Fixes A Whole Buncha Stuff

Desa

One of the patches made the game smaller in size I think (I don't own the game to say for sure), so it shouldn't be massive I wouldn't imagine.
Either way, my friend owns the game and enjoys it, so I can only imagine that this will actually really make it worthy of a purchase.

Re: DOOM Provides a 'Good Reference Point' to What Wolfenstein II Will Offer on Switch

Desa

@OorWullie
I think the difference between EA and Bethesda is that people didn't have high hopes for their FIFA game in the first place. EA has burned Nintendo gamers in the past, and sometimes when you burn trust it's hard to get out of that rut, especially when their portable FIFA was missing features.

Whereas, even around here, a lot of people claim they will support releases like DOOM and Skyrim. Bethesda has never released their games on a Nintendo system. They have never burned anyone's trust here. On top of that, they are putting in actual effort. The games look amazing. That's all anyone who cares wanted. I don't think these games will end the same way as FIFA, but how highly they sale with great competition is a different story.

Re: Wulverblade Cuts Its Way To The Switch eShop Next Week

Desa

And it may be that it's a small budget looking game, but those little games can have hours upon hours worth of fun in them. And they are about equal to the price of a meal I get at a restaurant.

At least with these games there is the factor of replayability.

Re: Wulverblade Cuts Its Way To The Switch eShop Next Week

Desa

@DEZn00ts
The only reason I would have confusion to your post is that you're posting it on a forum, for a game, that is releasing on the Switch first. It's not even on any other systems yet, not even PC, so I don't understand why Wulverblade gets your 'the Switch is a lean, mean porting machine' ranting.

Re: Review: Astro Bears Party (Switch eShop)

Desa

Hmm, the only reason I considered it at first was because of the price point.

It's too bad there isn't more going for it.

I guess Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime it will be whenever I break free from Stardew Valley to play with my comrades.

Re: Oxenfree Comes to the North American eShop on 6th October

Desa

@kobeskillz
Yeah, I heard about that. I wouldn't say a slap in the face, since it's a different audience of people and it was available at that price over on Xbox when it originally released, but if you own an Xbox there isn't much that beats free. It makes the Switch version a hard sell for sure.

At the end of the day, you can just think of it as paying the developers for the quality of their product. And the positive reviews say that its a quality game.
