Re: Random: Isabelle Reclaims The Official Animal Crossing Twitter Account, But Fans Have Mixed Feelings

DanteSolablood

Isabelle was a wonder in New Leaf but it's obvious they added her to New Leaf without working out what to do with her first. I'd even love it if they added a cut scene of her doing a your of your island when a new villager moves in.. making up stuff as she goes.

@geni53yr7 Haha, the removed him for being scary.. imagine those poor traumatised children finding he's moved in and standing outside their house!

Re: Why Does The New Pokémon Snap Game On Nintendo Switch Look So Stunning?

DanteSolablood

An on-rails game will always have a graphical advantage over a game with freedom of movement.. take Crash Bandicoot in the PS1, because it was on a linear path literally nothing outside what you could see existed so it could put more muscle into the things you could. It couldn't run otherwise.

GameFreak definitely should have brought in more help from Nintendo to get their 3D engine up to par but it's not as easy as GameFreak bad, Bandai good. Looking at a Bandai game is one thing, playing is quite another.

Re: Random: Check Out This Amazing Origami Peach Inspired By Paper Mario: The Origami King

DanteSolablood

@TossedLlama @RR529 Not going to open up the "animé", "not animé" debate.. but one consideration is that when animé was first coming to the west two words were used to differentiate Western cartoons from Japanese cartoons.. japanimation & anime. Animé ended up winning, therefore it was specifically used to denote Japanese cartoons. I think that's one reason older animé fans get a little butthurt (I used to, but don't mind so much now).

Notably, most external countries have their own derivatives of animé & manga to show where they're from.. such as Korean Manhwa. Maybe Airbender should be "Wanimé" as it's from the West?

Re: CoroCoro Reveals The Silhouette Of The Brand New Mythical Pokémon

DanteSolablood

@itslukec I also think it's a werewolf, though that brings with it the problem of effectively enslaving a human who's only occasionally a Pokémon.

However if you look at the boy's body (dont worry, I though it was a girl until
I realised that she'd be giving Ash full frontal nudity) markings particularly on his sides.. they match up with the bumps on the shadows sides. So it's either werewolf or Latios-style human form.

The kid's red/purpley hair is making me think either fire or poison for the main type.

Re: Nintendo And The Pokémon Company Release Joint Statement On Sword And Shield Leaker

DanteSolablood

@gaga64 You're mixing move reviews & game reviews. Movie reviews can be written & posted on the day the critic is invited to see the film.. therefore an embargoe can only happen a few days before release. In this case an embargoe usually is a bad sign.

For a game however a website or critic will generally need to complete the game before release so can get a copy up to a year in advance.. an embargoe is necessary so the whole game, cutscenes, plots, everything is not ruined for months in advance.

Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Sword And Shield Lifetime Sales Overtake Splatoon 2, And Smash Is Next

DanteSolablood

@Jayofmaya Let's Go was a deliberately handicapped Pokémon Yellow port designed to sell the Pokéball Plus. Comparing that to Sw/Sh is like comparing Learn with Pokémon:Typing Adventure to Pokémon B/W.

I was genuinely concerned about Sw/Sh until I started playing Shield, it has a lot more depth & plenty of background improvements that you don't get from reviews. I'd definitely place Sw/Sh above X/Y or B/W especially for story & amount of endgame.

That being said, Splatoon is one of my favourite new IPs. If the Splatfests were still going Pokémon wouldn't have stood a chance.. Splatfests were a huge focus for a lot of my friends.

Re: Federal Court Rules $10.1 Million Case Against Nintendo's Wii Remote As Invalid

DanteSolablood

@BarefootBowser if Nintendo gave up, the patent trolls would have received millions of dollars in licensing fees as well as the trolls court costs. It likely would have opened up the path to the Switch's motion controls too.

However, by continuing & closing this case Nintendo have forced the trolls to pay for their court costs (likely millions) and prevented the trolls from using the case as a springboard into similar technology Nintendo has based on the Wiimote.. aka Joycon.

Oh and just about how much it actually costs to lose a case like this.. when Sony lost against Immersion for using their force feedback technology in the original Dualshock it cost Sony $140m.. Sony paid out $22 for using the force feedback just 2 years of working out an ongoing agreement.

Re: Goku (Ultra Instinct) Is Joining Dragon Ball FighterZ As A DLC Character

DanteSolablood

@PBandSmelly @Heavyarms55 Dragon Ball ending with the Cell Saga was mostly a myth.. however Toriyama did confirm that he wasnt planning on stretching out the Buu saga so long. I believe skinny Buu was originally the final big bad.

As for milking the franchise, the only reason we have Dragon Ball Super is because Toriyama was SO badly treated by the Dragon Ball Evolution team which threw him off set for daring to suggest he knew the property a little better than them. The two DBZ movies that introduced Beerus were effectively his FU to Evolution (and performed better at the cinema).

Re: New Gen 4 Pokémon Leak Supposedly Shows Lots Of Scrapped Gender Differences

DanteSolablood

@SmaggTheSmug We're talking about the English translation of the game, I'm not imposing anything. If Gamefreak had used the word sex instead we'd not be having this discussion.. which was my only point.

@ToonStuff Awesome! However, I'm not defending gender labels, it just so happens there is a word which 100% specifies biological sex.. sex, and a word which has been more nuanced for the last 600 years.. gender. I think Gamefreak would have been better off with the former rather than the latter.

Re: New Gen 4 Pokémon Leak Supposedly Shows Lots Of Scrapped Gender Differences

DanteSolablood

@Zuljaras There has always been a difference between sex & gender historically but during the 20th Century when homosexuallity started becoming illegal in many societies the words became more interchangeable.

However this is what the Oxford English Dictionary has to say: "either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female."

As you can see, the entry makes a distinction between sex & gender, however Merriam-Webster goes further into the differences and does not link gender specifically to male & female. Lexico actually gives quite a good summation of how the word's usage has changed over time.. https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/gender

Re: New Gen 4 Pokémon Leak Supposedly Shows Lots Of Scrapped Gender Differences

DanteSolablood

@KingBowser86 You're likely right, looking at it from that point of view, peacocks makes have the large plumage to attract a mate, similarly with deer & antlers.

Though it still could be that pokemon use their ears to breed. No evidence to the contrary.

@Zuljaras There is no real "fault" really, though sex is more often associated with biological difference, while gender is more associate with sexual preference.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Beats Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order To Claim Number One Spot (UK)

DanteSolablood

@Kidfunkadelic83 Canonically gym leaders are actually great trainers that use a "weak" team to give trainers a chance. I think this was mentioned in the anime a long time ago & in the games during B&W2.

However, I agree with your actual point.. the gym leaders have never been much of a challenge. I'm one of those that took Charmander in Red & Blue and even then I didn't really need to grind.

Re: Round Up: The Pokémon Sword And Shield Reviews Are In, And It's Not As Bad As You Feared

DanteSolablood

I have my copy of Shield arriving tomorrow & these reviews have simply confirmed what I thought.. Sword & Shield will be fun, competently made games. Flaws and all.

Having played since RBY, I can confirm that Sword & Shield are getting no where near the amount of hate that RSE (Gen 3) received leading up to their release, yet those games are (rightly) considered one of the best generations.

Could Gamefreak have taken their time and made the games better? Yes.

Should Gamefreak have taken more time and made the games better? Yes!

Will I have fun playing Sword and Shielf with my friends anyway? Heck yes!!!

Re: Hardware Review: Go-tcha Evolve - The Pokémon GO Plus Killer

DanteSolablood

@datamonkey @Zequio The Got-cha isn't a bot and doesn't have any AI. It just throws one pokéball & if that doesn't catch it, the pokémon runs away forever no matter how rare it may be.

The only thing that really helps with is farming stardust a little faster - a resource designed to make you waste (and buy) pokeballs.

A more accurate Zelda analogy would be like opening a game & finding you'd died 100 times but made 5 rupees.

EDIT: In fairness, I had one but only used the stop spinning function as it was freezing walking into work where I lived & it save me getting frost burn.

Re: The Overwatch 2 Leak Was Extremely Demoralising For The Development Team

DanteSolablood

@Ralizah You're correct, the Dev team are the ones that work hard, break sweat working up to 70hr weeks to bring a game to life.. the ones making decisions on the eSport scene will be the much better paid PR and Management side of the business.

So leaks hurt the poorly paid hard workers, but dont effect the PR/Management side.

However, what you forget that people want to attack Blizzard completely free of nuance or tact so you (and I) will get voted down anyway.
