Re: Niantic Hopes To Have Player vs Player Battles In Pokémon GO By The End Of The Year

DanteSolablood

@thesilverbrick @jswhitfield8 Another way to look at this is that Niantic could not have had PvP in Pokémon Go from the start. Unlike Gamefreak, Niantic had to build it's game & battling system from scratch - this takes time and a lot of work, if Niantic simply held Pokémon back then they risked a competitor stealing their thunder (look at Jurassic World Alive... imagine that came out first & PoGo looked like the clone).

Obviously the downside to launching first & adding in basic features like trading & battling is MAJORLY annoying their fanbase (I was pretty salty about it for a while)... the upside however is that both those things now count as NEW features and may bring players back in.

@Heavyarms55 You're spot on, as it is the battle system is terrible for PvP & it's hard to see how they could change it in a way that would be fun. This is especially tough because Pokémon can only learn 2 moves & generally it's better to have 2 STAB moves for raids. If it's just Gym Battles but against an opponent, I'm against it.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Spinda - How To Catch Spinda

DanteSolablood

@Fuz @Markiemania95 I've not confirmed it myself yet as my town refuses to have anything but "win a raid" quests, but I've heard that only one of the 8 Spinda variants is currently available.

@Ooyah I'm not sure which country you're in, but Mr Mime is also pretty awesome for curveball/great throws.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Gen 4 Pokémon List - Every Gen 4 Pokémon Ahead Of The Update

DanteSolablood

@Jayronauron I disagree slightly that all fans will know the full Gen 4 list already - there are a lot of PoGo fans that haven't got a great Pokémon knowledge outside of their current Pokédex. I had to explain to a veteran PoGo player what a Spinda was today. :/

However, I completely agree that it would be a much better article if it concentrated on useful Pokémon Go information such as which Gen 3 candy to collect in preparation, which Pokémon will be useful in raids & speculation over possible regionals etc. Just linking to any of a thousand Pokédexs would have been better than this hot mess.

I wonder if NLife actually have any PoGo players in their writing staff?

Re: Hardware Review: Go-tcha Ranger: A Worthy Upgrade For The Ultimate Pokémon GO Accessory?

DanteSolablood

@Damo Some people in the PoGo community do see the Go-tcha as cheating as it allows you to make catches quicker, in more difficult places (e.g. while driving or as a passenger as it allows you to catch at higher speeds than without a Go-tcha) and is MUCH more efficient in farming Stardust.

However, I don't agree & owned a Go-tcha myself for a long time until it disappeared while ice-skating at a Christmas work do in London.

Also, don't press the button on a PG Plus at all - the Go-tcha IS the only safe way to catch while driving.

Re: Minecraft's Aquatic Update Phase Two Gets Wet And Wild Today On Switch

DanteSolablood

Oddly enough I thought Minecraft on the Switch would renew my love of Minecraft having played thousands of PC hours - run YouTube channels & worked on busy recording servers over the last several years.. but it hasn't. All that's really happened is that meeting people blind through friend codes & (until recently) not being able to chat in-game completely killed my passion for game.

I will say the Bedrock update was impressive - went from my old Laptop barely running 1.3 at 25fps a few years back to a solid 60fps 1.12.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Spend More Than $2 Million A Day, Total Revenue Surpasses $1.8 Billion

DanteSolablood

@G-Boy Why do you think we don't spend money on real Pokémon games too? I've been a Pokémon player since the very beginning & attended events, meet ups and have a full collection of each game fully completed - even played competitively for a while until hacking become too prevalent.

However, I like Pokémon Go too.. people actually show up & you can talk to them, make friends and a HUGE amount of them like the "real" Pokémon too! Heck.. recently made a new friend at the Community Day at this weekend and we went deep into Pokémon & animé lore.

I have no idea why some people want to push this false narrative that you have to be EITHER a PoGo player OR a REAL Pokémon player... kinda makes me feel like people are calling my love for the mainline series fake.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fan Sends Threatening Email To Nintendo New York Store After Removal Of Game Kiosks

DanteSolablood

Hmm, guessing my original comment was removed due to the controversial topics involved, even though I went out of my way to be polite & inoffensive. Hopefully the two commenters I was looking to settle down have calmed a bit.

@@Heavyarms55 Lol, I think I'll leave those topics for now.. don't want to discuss two tragedies AND the Bible in one comment sections else it will be more than my posts being removed.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fan Sends Threatening Email To Nintendo New York Store After Removal Of Game Kiosks

DanteSolablood

@Heavyarms55 You're absolutely right, it seems to be a default setting. Before video games, it was movies that were to blame for the ills of the world.. before that records, before that racy books, before that paintings. It seems the people in power can never seem to admit their own legislative failures (or you know, humanity) could possibly have something to do with it.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fan Sends Threatening Email To Nintendo New York Store After Removal Of Game Kiosks

DanteSolablood

@dereq Apologies if my wording came across badly, but living memory is defined as the memory of those who lived through the event itself. Only 100,000 holocaust survivors are alive today (as of Jan 2018) & most in their 80s & 90s. My statement was not meant as a slight against the surviving victims but to highlight that 73 years have past since then, yet the pain is still very real.

I would appreciate your opinion on why my statement was "unbelievably false" though, so I can be more accurate in future.

Re: Meet The Pokéball Plus, A New Tool For Aspiring Trainers With Pokémon GO Or A Switch

DanteSolablood

@SwitchVogel It seems like the Official Pokémon website also confirms the Pokéball Plus works as a Go Plus for your regular Pokémon Go... this helps a little bit to justify the price as they are still £30+ at the moment.

@ktej75 "*The Pokémon sounds can be muted." From the official page.

@rjejr The support ring is a standard Go Plus accessory, so I'm guessing the ring is there to appeal to PoGo players... plus it makes it easy to hold a Go Plus (and now Pokéball Plus) and a phone at the same time while keeping a hand free to use either.

Re: Meet The Pokéball Plus, A New Tool For Aspiring Trainers With Pokémon GO Or A Switch

DanteSolablood

@JayJ From what I can tell from the trailer for Lets Go Pikachu/Evee, it's a motion control ball.. you pretend to throw it and the ball on screen follows it's motion. The ball then "catches" the pokemon & allows you to interact with it.

In the trailer you seem to be able to roll/tap the ball to make the pokémon inside calm down or talk to you. It's likely things like shaking the ball will be a thing.

I think this is pretty cool! Not only do we get an official shape/size Pokéball, but it look like they've packed enough tech inside it to make it multifunctional... bet it will do lots more neat things when released.

Re: Pokémon Switch Studio Reveals Game Design Details In Job Posting

DanteSolablood

@austin_voigt Just to note that the "deformed" & "caricature" part of the style listing are actually very not Pokémon. Deformed (also know as SD) refers to the small characters with giant heads & eyes on smaller bodies.. think the SD Gundam series or Pop Vinyls, which would fit with the caricature label. Plus the hire would be working on a Japanese game, so uhm, a manga style wouldn't be THAT unusual.

Re: God Of War And Far Cry 5 Push Nintendo Labo Into Third Place In The UK Charts

DanteSolablood

I think LABO did exceptionally well to place as high as it did, not only would LABO have been in less than a 10th of the number retail outlets as God of War (none of the supermarkets in my county stock Nintendo at all, focussing on Sony & Microsoft), but LABO is a new IP... getting people in the UK to jump on board something new is tough.

One thing I find annoying is people just concentrating on the cardboard aspect of LABO... the garage & coding tools are what really interest me, as long as people have imagination the game has staying power.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Gets A Switch-Shaped Bonus Item

DanteSolablood

As a big Pokémon Go fan, I am very happy to ask... do people still play this game? I absolutely adore Animal Crossing but Pocket Camp is far too shallow & slow to keep real AC fans happy for more than a few weeks.

We really need a real Animal Crossing on the Switch soon... but are they really about to do that when they've just added a new revenue stream to Pocket Camp (look boxes)? I'd expect Pocket Camp to all but die out once a real AC is released on the Switch.

Re: There's Trouble In Paradise As Nintendo Adds Loot Boxes To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

DanteSolablood

I dropped this game a while ago as there wasn't really enough to do except for grinding daily tasks to level up your friendship. To be honest I'm not surprised it's getting loot boxes... though I am surprised how accepting people are of them becuase it's a "mobile game".

The more people accept lootboxes, the more liberties studios will take. Anyone remember the days when lootboxes weren't acceptable at all?

Re: Guide: Pokémon Go Moves List And TMs - All Fast Moves And Charge Moves, How To Get TMs, And How It All Works

DanteSolablood

@dougphisig Pokémon is still one the the top grossing apps in the World, making millions upon millions every month - someone has to be playing it for Niantic to be making all that money.

@Baker1000 I don't know if it's too surprising that Pokémon Go has such a large playerbase, after all I'm 37 this year but... but that means I was just leaving school/starting college when Pokémon hit big. A lot of people have grown with the game.

Plus you have the social aspect that Pokémon Go adds, you head out and bump into people & work together, even burn off a few calories.

As for this list... just a huge slab of fairly contextless data, not a big fan/

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Kanto Event FAQ: Everything You Need To Know To Get The Most Out Of It

DanteSolablood

This event seems to be purely for newer players or those that took a long break after the initial bubble burst, personally I collected all the non-regional Gen One pokémon already and had a cool 1500 Magikarp Candy sitting there ready for the Mew research task (completed Sunday last week).

The main thing I think this article misses however is that the Kanto Week will be running on top of Community Day, this means you'll be getting double candy AND 4x hatching speed... plus some shiny Mareep to hunt down!!

I've been loving the new research quests as it's given me something new to do, but this Kanto Week has been a little disappointing so far.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO A Mythical Discovery Walkthrough - How To Complete The Special Research Quest And Get Mew

DanteSolablood

@loyalroyal1989 To be fair, Ghosts are aren't that rare at night & it seems Gastly is spawning a LOT more during the Kanto event. Also, Ditto rates seem to be up... I just spent a couple of days catching Pidgey & Rattata (common pokémon) on the way into work and BANG caught a Ditto.

A lot of these research tasks are pretty easy to do if you're just a little patient, if just catching a few pokémon over a few days is so tedious someone needs to spoof... I'm not sure Pokémon Go is the right game for them.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO - How To Catch Ditto And Which Pokémon To Look Out For

DanteSolablood

Well this is extremely late, I'd have thought the guide was to tie it into the Stage 6 research quest - but you'd have thought they mention that?

The Quests actually turned out to be pretty easy, as with catching Mew, wondering what's going to be next.

Either way, just catch Pidgeys - they're by far the most common pokémon & it's got the highest chance of being a Ditto (then Rattata, which is equally common).

Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Powerslides Onto Switch This July

DanteSolablood

This looks pretty dire if you ask me - a Mario Kart clone making it's way to a system with one of the most polished versions of Mario Kart ever... and the character designs look like they've been plucked straight out of late 90's MTV cartoon Celebrity Death Match.

As always, I'll reserve final judgement until I read/watch reviews... but it looks a little pants if you ask me.

Re: LEGO The Incredibles Will Be Plastic And Fantastic On Nintendo Switch This June

DanteSolablood

Not really into the Lego games but I LOVE the minifigures... those Incredible figures look terrible! They have much better hair that Dash could use... I might buy the games, but I wouldn't buy the minifigure series.

Lol, just checked & I actually have a Mr Incredible already from the Disney Minifigure series... it actually looks better than the one used in this game (even without the custom body).

Re: Hardware Review: Retro-Styled Switch Controllers from ColorWare

DanteSolablood

Well I don't personally like that style.. would personally go with a Kamen Rider W driver & Gaia Memory theme myself, but I can understand the cost. You're not only paying for the paint & controllers, but also the labor.

@AlexOlney Quick microfiber to the screen before filming eh? Or was the screen clean & your face had fingerprints on it.

Re: Video: Getting Hands-On with The World's Largest Micro SD Card from Integral

DanteSolablood

@roadrunner343 Oh I understand file compression, I actually have studied computing at college, it was more of a joke. Though I would point out that a kilobyte is now actually 1000 bytes, 1024mb was redefined at as a kibibyte. Binary is a pain in the backside, especially as having to learn binary long division.

As for the 1TB card.. it does sound like he's making it up & using "partition" when he can't think of a word that adequately fills in a knowledge gap. If he's actually made a 1TB MicroSD card at home before Sandisk... then we likely have our first billionnaire!

Re: Video: Getting Hands-On with The World's Largest Micro SD Card from Integral

DanteSolablood

@stevenw45 No worries, while partitioning can not add more space to a disk (inherent in the name, partitioning only ever divides up a set amount of space) - however, getting into file formats is beyond my personal knowledge & definitely too long & boring to post.

Though if I was hazarding a guess, it sounds like you're using WinZip to reduce the file sizes to give you a nominal 1TB.

@mailman In one way it adding in external drive support would have been a great idea from the start, the downside though is that it was in Nintendo's best interest to have people using the portable function as visibly as possible so the Switch could sell itself... with external storage so much cheaper than MicroSDs, there's the chance most people would just get used to leaving the Switch docked 90% of the time.

I'm sure external storage will arrive in a future update, though you then have the issue of deciding which games you want to lose access to when you remove your Switch from the dock.

Re: Video: Getting Hands-On with The World's Largest Micro SD Card from Integral

DanteSolablood

@stevenw45 It seems you've switched from saying you have a 1TB MicroSD Card (currently doesn't exist) to 1GB, which is commercially available. Did you mean 1GB from the start? After all, adding partitions to a storage medium helps you divide up the storage differently but can't add space onto a disc/card. It's like saying you can make your house bigger by adding shelves.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Splatoon’s Original Prototypes At GDC

DanteSolablood

@Dj64Mk7 I don't know if Mitch speaks for the whole of Nintendo Life, but he didn't say what platform Splatoon 3 would be on.

The only reason I could see Splatoon 3 not being released on the Switch is Nintendo updating the Splatoon 2 often enough it rides out the full console generation... that's a big ask.

Re: (Pre)History Is Made As Ark: Survival Evolved Is Officially Announced For Switch

DanteSolablood

@20wonders @Moshugan To be fair, both the PS4 Pro & Xbox One X struggle to hang around 30fps at 720p (and the XboxOne S can drop below 20fps regularly)... so I'd say it's pretty darned impressive that it's not a slideshow on the Switch! If Wildcard can get the Switch version running a solid 30fps at 720p without toooo many compromises, it could end up being the best version.

@gamerrr72 Studio Wildcard have already tweeted that they're looking at the 16GB card because of how expensive the 32GB card is... in fact they've stated it's the hardest part of the port. At present it looks like there is going to be a hefty download required for the game.

Re: Sonic Mania Plus Arrives On Switch This Summer

DanteSolablood

@link3710 I get what you mean about Sonic Boom but it was touted as the future of Sonic in the run up to it's release - my guess is it's crushing failure was the only reason Sonic returned in-house for main series games from then on. It's a shame, the game had potential.

Re: Sonic Mania Plus Arrives On Switch This Summer

DanteSolablood

Wow, I'd been nail-biting on whether to pick up Sonic Mania for a while as I believe that NO console is complete without Sonic the Hedgehog (well, accept the SNES & NES maybe). For £30 physical, how could I resist?

Now if they made the 5 part cartoon a continuation of Sonic SATam it would be perfect.

Re: WaterField Launches The SwitchPack Carry Case To Celebrate The Console's Anniversary

DanteSolablood

These cases are fine, though from what I've seen through reviews the Waterfield cases don't provide much more protection than a good quality £20 case.

Personally I've ordered a new Younik case for my Switch to replace the garbage I bought from GAME just after picking up the console. Since when did GAME start cable-tying their cases shut so you had no idea how AWFUL their tat was?

Re: Legendary Creatures Kyogre and Groudon Have Returned To Pokémon GO For A Limited Time

DanteSolablood

Okay... so basically the best thing to do in this event is ignore Kyogre & Groudon and just keep catching those Rayquazas. Bagon & other dragon types are some of the most powerful Pokémon in the game, so being able to get more of them from eggs (increasing the chance of getting one with perfect IVs) iwould be amazing.

@Jacob1092 Yup, I'll be out nice & early completing my gold dragon badge. Fingers crossed we get shinies like the Pikachu community day.

@Grumpy-Cam Well numbers came in recently showing how much money some of the biggest apps earned last year, Pokémon Go was right up there with $1.1bn. Guess Nlife panicked & threw us some stories.
