Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?

DanteSolablood

@Sakura I'd just like to add that while it's true some studios have gone under due to large projects failing, this isn't necessarily related to the rise in micro-transactions. Large companies such as Ubisoft & EA actually boast in their board meetings that their games make millions in dollars in profit before even taking into account the DLC, micro-transactions, loot boxes and pre-orders.

Yes, there are some smaller studios that go under or are bought out due to their name recognition.. but these are not usually the studios pushing out micro-transactions. A few companies actually throw valuable properties out for worse selling games that they can squeeze more micro-transactions into (EA actively killing first person properties & their studios).

Some developers don't just want some of your money.. or most of your money. They want ALL of your money & don't care if they make your game worse to get it.

Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?

DanteSolablood

Personally, I only really want the Switch's design refined & fixed so things like the catches don't break so easily. While I can see Nintendo upping the RAM a little, anyone expecting 4K resolution and a battery life longer than 5 seconds is kidding themselves.

Oh, and if Nintendo could start using the full USB-C compliance so dock's don't fry the Switch... that'd be nice.

Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?

@Cobalt You may have had a point, but having been on this site since before the Switch launched... I can tell you that there was a LOT of complaining, moaning and Nintendooming about the Switch's capabilities. You still see people thinking the Switch isn't powerful enough to run chat (despite the original xBox managing it yeaaaars ago). A lot of people wanting more power have always wanted it but just gone quiet when the Switch was a success.

I don't think developers have actually managed to tap into the Switch's current power yet - it usually takes time to get the most out of new hardware.

Re: Xenon Racer Brings High-Speed Arcade Fun To The Nintendo Switch

DanteSolablood

Hmm, the thing that I'm wondering about this game is why do the cars run on Xenon gas? It's a noble gas with low reactivity & mostly appears in lighting and anesthetic. Technically it could be used in something like an ion thruster, but they rely on the vacuum of space to provide thrust. :/

Either way, the graphics look shiny!! Can't wait for the sequel, chalk racers.. cars powered by the amazing properties of chalk!

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

DanteSolablood

@saintayu Thanks for your response! First of all I would like to confirm that the article is speculation & Amazon has fallen out with Nintendo in the past as well as Sony & Microsoft... the common denominator being Amazon. I attached a link in an earlier post in-which Amazon falsely accused Nintendo of sending out damaged goods in order to secure a discount.

In regards to the Nintendo getting paid the same, this is not entirely correct. As Amazon is such a large retailer, any discounts that they put on Nintendo's products will put tremendous pressure on other retailers including Walmart etc. to either match or beat those discounts - that pressure returns to Nintendo.

The 3DS is a bad example as it's not only a much older console but the margins that stores have are a lot larger (the cost of production is tiny compared to it's retail price). I would also note that in the past when the 3DS was new... Amazon refused to stock the 3DS as well.

Either way, the Switch is Nintendo's product & they are free to decide whether they want a store to sell their product - if Nintendo do not trust a site, they are free to pull their hardware.

Re: Pokémon The Movie: The Power Of Us Will Hit UK Cinemas In November And December

DanteSolablood

@Heavyarms55 Thanks, @Benjamin already confirmed what you meant for me - I was unaware that the current movies followed that story line, I saw that movie as a non-canon retelling of the animé.

I've just read the Wikipedia on the movie & you're both correct of course. It's a real shame, though now I know it's rebooted... it might actually make me want to watch it a little more sorry.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

DanteSolablood

@Alucard83 To be fair on Nintendo, when PS4 & XboxOne launched they were €400 & €500 respectively. Also, the PS4 and XboxOne are basically PCs in plastic boxes, requiring a lot less research and development spending.

Nintendo's prices will come down, but price cuts usually come when demand starts to slow down or a new, cheaper to manufacture version of the hardware is released- the Switch is still selling well around the globe.

@Megal0maniac Also has a good point, the flash memory that the Switch uses means games take up less space to begin with.

Re: Mega Man 11 - A Glorious Return To Form For One Of Gaming's Greatest Heroes

DanteSolablood

Well, neither my brother or I managed to complete the demo on normal mode & we've both completed all the original NES Megaman games. So I guess it lives up to the "old school" difficulty standards.

I'll probably wait a while before picking up a copy - if it's as tough as the demo makes out, I'll wait until I have a few more games completed & give it the time it deserves.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

DanteSolablood

@Spoony_Tech @saintayu To be fair on Nintendo, we don't know exactly who is at fault here, Amazon have fallen out with both Nintendo and Sony in the past, trying dirty tactics to bring prices down.

If Nintendo were to allow Amazon to discount the Switch as much as Amazon is likely demanding, this will see a similar response from retailers such as Target/Walmart etc... meaning Amazon would push for MORE discounts. Nintendo need to stand firm until they bring costs of manufacture down.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

DanteSolablood

@ryancraddock I've looked into article when it was posted in the forums, neither Amazon or Nintendo have officially commented on the issue & therefore the "product pricing" issue is speculation on the part of IGN. Also, it's worth noting that Amazon & Nintendo have had similar fall outs dating back to 2012.. when Amazon tried to force Nintendo into letting them sell at a discount by accusing Nintendo of shipping them scratched 3DS'.

Here's an article from 2013 on Kotaku where Amazon was not stocking Nintendo products & actively advising customers to buy other manufacturers hardware. https://kotaku.com/oh-wow-amazon-really-hates-nintendo-consoles-465285000

Re: UK Charts Reveal That Just 1% Of FIFA 19 Sales Were On Switch, Physical Launch Sales Tumble

DanteSolablood

@SBandy I've not played the game personally & it probably plays great - I'm just wondering if Fifa is a game that suits playing on the go? Do you ever play it out & about or on a bus?

As someone that doesn't play football/soccer games, I'd have thought that they'd be more suited to something like the PS4. If you're not playing on the go... you might as well get that graphical bump.

It's not a case that the Switch is bad for the game, but that the game isn't a good match for the Switch.

Re: SEGA AGES Sonic The Hedgehog - Feel The Need For Speed (Yet Again) On Switch

DanteSolablood

Having played the original Sonic a metric ship-tonne when it first came out & on many emulators and consoles since, I will say I'm getting a little worn out by it... especially considering I'm part way through Sonic Mania Plus (and loving it).

For those young enough to have not played the first Sonic before, I'd say this is likely a must-have.. but for veterans, wait for someone to do something ACTUALLY new with it - let us play as Amy, Eggman.. or go wild and throw Mario in there.

Re: UK Charts Reveal That Just 1% Of FIFA 19 Sales Were On Switch, Physical Launch Sales Tumble

DanteSolablood

This doesn't surprise me, other than new kits &the odd gameplay tweek most of the point of these football game updates seems to be graphical.. something the Switch simply can't compete on. Plus the UK high street is still stubbornly slow getting the Switch on the shelves.

Outside of GAME & Argos, my local supermarkets have only started stocking Switch games in the last couple of weeks (same with those in around 10 miles) whereas they've never NOT stocked Playstation & Xbox.

Re: Bandai Namco And HTC Are Bringing Mario Kart VR To The United States

DanteSolablood

Ooh! I used to love HTC until they started going weird with their phones (glass & no real buttons?). They should be a perfect match for Nintendo.

Lol, this does look like great fun though - was just discussing this with a friend while out Pokémon Go Raiding.. now could we set up real life Mario Karts with Blue Shells by rigging a servo to cut the engine out when you're hit....
