Re: Fake Nintendo Labo Kits Are Now Appearing With No Game Inside The Box

DanteSolablood

Basically it seems whoever the company is running this scam.. they only wanted to make it look good enough to last out a few weeks of sales before being found out. With hundreds of people reporting the lack of a game straight away, there may be many more that don't realise there's MEANT to be a game until later on.

Effectively what these scammers are doing is collecting money for selling wholesale & then changing their phone numbers/addresses when people start to notice the fakes.

Re: The Man Behind SNES Star Fox Talks About The Nintendo VR Console That Never Was

DanteSolablood

Well, having been a teenager 20 years ago I played on a few virtual reality arcade cabinets & watched a lot of TV where virtual reality was pushed as the next big thing... then it all went the way of the 3D TV.

The real thing that amuses me is that virtual reality was MUCH more hyped & found it's way into comics, cartoons, game shows, music and almost every facet of our lives & yet it died out as just another gimmick. Virtual reality at the moment is struggling to make money and is already seen as a fad?

So what is Jez actually boasting about? He could have killed VR faster and taken some of Nintendo's credibility with it?

Re: Experience PlayStation One Era Graphics On Switch With Survival Horror Back In 1995

DanteSolablood

@AcridSkull I take your point, I must admit that I'm probably spoiled having lived through 90s gaming & only the lazy games looked that bad... but now on newer hardware simulating the aesthetic probably is quite a nuanced task.

However, I do take into question the appeal of this look - I have nostalgia for the gameplay of this era, but not the look. For example, I never had a problem with how the live action Transformers look, I only hated the way they were much more simple & childish than the 80s cartoons.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Have Apparently Spent $2 Billion To Catch 'Em All

DanteSolablood

@bones Well, you don't NEED to buy more balls to catch them... you get Pokéballs for free by spinning Pokéstops that you find quite often while walking around. You only buy more balls if you're too lazy to leave your house for a walk.

I've completed most of the Pokémon Games & have nearly the full Pokédex on Go. I just need to find a few people with regional (continent exclusive) Pokémon to trade with.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Last New Stage Set To Appear In Splatoon 2

DanteSolablood

@Blizzia Haha, very true! I love my Splashdown too.. though I've currently equipped the Kensa Splattershot/Tenta Missiles. I love to hunt down & splat the enemy team up close and personal, so I'm experimenting with some range in my special charge.

I think I need to put in more hours before I try out the Dualies, getting your head around the dash/rolls the first time takes some doing.. though it's tough to deal with out on the stage. Personal favourite stage - The Reef.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Have Apparently Spent $2 Billion To Catch 'Em All

DanteSolablood

@rjejr Thanks for the update, I genuinely wasn't sure as I gave my PS3 to my mum well before the PS4 was announced. I definitely miss Gundam Dynasty Warriors. :,(

@mctrials23 Okay, that's fair.. though that wasn't clear from your original post. I know a lot of friends that are paying less than £5/year for the Nintendo Online Service - you'd likely have picked me up on that if I'd have compared that to PSN without mentioning they're sharing one family plan between 8 accounts (in different countries).

However, you are correct that they're handling things really badly - I wouldn't expect to get the large library of older games that Sony gives out to it's subscribers.. reheated NES games are taking the mickey. Plus there is literally no reason for the VC to be done through an app. Anyone expecting even a half of what you'd get through PSN would be stupid, but yes, we should be getting the basics.

Anyway, I could ramble about the Nintendo Online Service here... but this is a Pokémon Go comment section & I'm a Pokémon Go fan. Let's just leave it that the PSN costs £35/year unless you're stupid & the NOS costs from £4/year depending on how many friends with Switch's you have.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Last New Stage Set To Appear In Splatoon 2

DanteSolablood

Well, this is kind of sad news but that doesn't mean we'll not get many more updates in the future. This tweet doesn't rule out new weapons, costumes or many other features.

I started playing Splatoon 2 recently (Lv17) and have really loved all the constant updates. One day I might even stop using my trusty Splattershot & try something new.

@Galenmereth Make you wonder about Sony's £49 online charge & how so few of their games ever get updates. Almost like the the online charge and games charges aren't related to each other.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Have Apparently Spent $2 Billion To Catch 'Em All

DanteSolablood

@mctrials23 Just a separate comment for this, but having double checked the Playstation Online charge... it's $49.99 a month in the US & £49.99 in the UK. So not only is it more than double the Nintendo Online price, but they don't factor in the exchange rate (should be £38).

Where is your £35/year price from - I'm checking the Playstation Store itself?

Re: Pokémon GO Players Have Apparently Spent $2 Billion To Catch 'Em All

DanteSolablood

I've played Pokémon Go from the start and originally I didn't spend money at all on the in-app purchases. I will say I do buy the occasional raid pass to take part in social events.. like the recent Moltres day though. The game is really fun however.

@bones I'd already caught them all before even starting to play Pokémon GO... it seems from your comment that you really don't understand Pokémon. It's not just "having them all" that makes Pokémon fun, it's how you collect them & Pokémon Go is amazing fun & gets you out meeting people. Also, it appears you think you can transfer Pokémon from Let's Go to Pokémon Go?? You can't.. and even if you could, Let's Go Pikachu is Gen 1 only.

@mctrials23 I completely agree that in-app purchases which you can choose to ignore & paid online, which is mandatory to enjoy the full experience of you gaming are two very different experiences. However, while it certainly feels like a bit of a duck move giving everyone over a year before implementing the paid online, Nintendo do have some mitigating factors - especially being their first paid online anything... plus they were likely worried making the online service paid from the start could both delay the Switches launch & damage it's launch figures.

Quick question, I know that Sony's online is subscription now, but it wasn't originally (had a PS3 for a while). Was that switched when the PS4 launched.. or did they just force PS3 owners to pay for their online 3-4 years into it's life?

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Meltan - How To Catch It And Everything You Need To Know

DanteSolablood

@SuperC142 I think what @Foxyglen is trying to do with the title is futureproof the article. Rather than writing a separate article later on explaining how the actual capture will occur, they're putting all the Meltan information in one place & will update it once we know how to catch the Ditto-1000.

This seems to be the norm for Pokémon Go articles at the moment, including the Raid Bosses & Shiny Guides. It makes for some confusing comment sections... but I guess it frees up some server space.

@Galenmereth Well when you start getting closer to Pokémon 1000, I guess it gets harder to make Pokémon distinct and fresh. Considering people have been moaning hard about Pokémon designs since Gen 2, I wouldn't really expect Gamefreak to pay much attention to the critics any more. Boy who cried wolf & all that..

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

@Slim1999 The "3DS Successor" is likely going to be whatever replaces the Switch rather than something that competes with it. Nintendo simply don't have the resources to adequately support two handheld/hybrid devices. Trying to manage two separate ecosystems was part of what led to huge gaming droughts during the WiiU's lifetime. Given that it takes a long time to develop new hardware from concept.. whatever this "Successor" is, could pop up in around 5 years time, when the Switch will be getting towards it's end.

@Haywired Any "3DS Successor" would in reality be a "2DS Successor" as Nintendo themselves aren't really keen on the 3D gimmick any more. I'm glad they got it out of their system!! While, as a above, I doubt Nintendo will butcher their own sales by bringing out a new handheld to compete with the Switch... I can see they maybe producing the Switch Lite aimed at a younger "joycon snapping" audience.

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

@OberonPrime I completely agree that healthy competition is a necessity for any progress to be made, though I don't know if I'd describe it as leaving "money on the table". While the PS4 has been a huge success, the Sony conglomerate as a whole has been leaking money like someone trying to carry the Atlantic ocean in a sieve... they can't afford to take too many risks.

While the PSP was a moderate success & brought in some money, the PS Vita has sold well in Japan but gave Sony a financial hit in the the rest of the world.. we can't forget that Sony failed HARD on the Xperia Play phones. Unlike Microsoft that didn't make any money on their Xbox until WELL into the 360's lifecycle (probably as people usually had to buy more than one ), Sony has to be careful.

Personally, I can't see Sony attempting something in the handheld market until well into the PS5's lifecycle & even then will they be willing to break off a portion of their software development team to EXCLUSIVELY work on games for it... something that is 100% necessary.

Now if Microsoft bought out Sega & put their hat into the ring.. then we'd be talking!!

Oh and I've leant my Vita to my younger brother.. personally I bought it to play some exclusive Japanese games - before I saw how much they cost!! Some more expensive than the console right now!

Re: More Details And Screenshots Emerge For Nickelodeon Kart Racers On Switch

DanteSolablood

Hmm, this game does not look good... and I'm wondering if it's a game that's been sat on for a while, especially considering the older Turtle designs.

Having watched the trailer I hope the game gets a little more polish. Those characters are completely dead-eyed, watching the reanimated, bloated corpses of my teenage idols being forced around a track could cause nausea.

Re: The Mystery 'Nut Pokémon' Officially Revealed As 'Meltan', Will Appear In Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

DanteSolablood

@UmbreonsPapa Don't forget that Ho-Oh appears in the first episode of the Pokémon animé... so I'm pretty sure the rules are different. In fact the reason so many gen 2 Pokémon appeared in the animé that early is because the final roster for the game hadn't been finished when the animé went into production.

@Yosheel That's me thinking as well, though how they decide to market this Pokémon is anyone's guess!

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

@Arcamenel That's not quite correct - Nintendo do have to compete with mobile gaming, but it's a different "sector" with very different factors. Usually people compare like-to-like competition.

However, all consoles and PCs are having to compete with mobile games to a certain degree now. I know plenty of kids who spend more time on Pokémon Go & tablet games than they do on ANY console... that's potential money lost from Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft.

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

@OberonPrime Thank you, I respect your opinions as well.

While it's true that Sony eventually failed the prevent piracy on the Vita long term, from their point of view they wanted to do everything they could to slow it down... they could simply not afford to release the Vita & instantly lose ALL their profit from piracy. Was it a mistake? Almost certainly. But we can only look at the reality of what happened.

As for Sony offering more in regards to online, you are again absolutely correct, though I don't see this as a great innovation - they just wanted to cram as much into the Vita as possible to try and steal some headway from Nintendo. Unfortunately Sony were simply offering the same experience as the PS3 & the games were not different enough to provide a reason to buy them on top of the PS3.

And yes, the Vita was/is probably light years ahead of Nintendo in regards to online - this is something that Nintendo has always struggled with. However, technically there is physical reason why the Switch can not provide voice chat & friends list. It's all up to Nintendo!

Personally, if Sony wants to go into hybrid console territory they either make the PS5 a 100% hybrid console or don't do it at all. One of the key failings of the PS Vita was not offering enough reasons for the Sony fanbase to buy a Vita AND PS3/PS4. If they released a PS Vita Plus & it's just a PS4 in a handheld shell.... who the heck would buy that instead of just getting a cheap second hand PS4?? It's not like Sony would open a studio to develop portable games (aka like Nintendo had).

Re: The Mystery 'Nut Pokémon' Officially Revealed As 'Meltan', Will Appear In Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

DanteSolablood

Interesting. I have to admit that while the design is crude.. the giant "eye" does seem to allow it to express itself pretty well. Also, considering that this Pokémon is showing up in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, I'm not sure which Generation we could call it. Is it an early Gen 8 Pokémon or a late Gen 7? The leaked details would lean to Gen 7.

@RupeeClock Well I was skeptical about the "not a pokémon theory" of yours but to be honest, nobody knew. Your guesses were as good as mine.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Meltan - How To Catch It And Everything You Need To Know

DanteSolablood

@Alundra-1998 No, from the way I'm reading it they're just trying to say that the Ditto saw a Meltan & copied it.. not that they are necessarily related.

Considering Professor Willow mentioned "fieldwork" at the end of the video, I'm pretty sure that means we'll get a Mythical Quest somewhere down the line to catch it.

And yes, I've transferred most of my "Meltan" Ditto too.

Edit: I've caught 3 of every Pokémon so far... except Mew, Celebi & the Gen 2/3 regionals.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Meltan - How To Catch It And Everything You Need To Know

DanteSolablood

@FoxyGlen No problem, though it appears we now have confirmation on who this Pokémon is... it's Meltan. Here's the Go Hub article on the new Pokémon.

https://pokemongohub.net/post/news/introducing-meltan-a-newly-discovered-mythical-pokemon/

It seems that Meltan (the liquid metal Pokémon) is a new Pokémon for Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee & may be obtainable from a Quest in PoGo eventually. Also, it's appearance in Let's Go (a pre-Gen 8 game) may explain it's Gen 7 asset number.

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

@OberonPrime I disagree to a certain degree in regards to the UMDs, while we can both agree to load time & battery drain Sony definitely stopped releasing movies onto UMD very early into the life of the PSP - partially for price consideration (the UMD format generally meant movies cost more than equivalent DVDs) and partially due to lack of interest. DVDs were cheap, tablets were exploding.

As for mMemsticks, not only have Sony insiders confirmed that they were using their proprietary memory due to hacking & piracy..
"Sony was concerned with security. The PSP was plagued by firmware hacks, and Sony's goal may be to prevent the Vita from succumbing to the same fate by keeping its memory on a new proprietary format." - Muneki Shimada, Sony Division 2 Software Head
..but it was also understandable, Sony tends to sell it's hardware at a loss & makes it's profit back from hardware. Resistence:Retribution was available for free on BitTorrent on the same day it launched. Yes, piracy may have shifted more hardware but Sony that's not where they made their money.

I agree that CoD was a bad example, but it was the game which was hyped up the most & one of the biggest selling points from people I spoke to at the time. Indeed Sony did bring some amazing games to the Vita, but how many of them were tailored to the handheld market rather than being ports of current games?

I 100% agree with you on the marketing though, Sony could have done better with the Vita and dropped it's support too early, though where I disagree is that I don't believe it was ever likely to compete with the 3DS. Yes, the Vita was a good piece of hardware BUT out of all the things it could do it didn't do anything the PS3 didn't and never gave the Sony fanbase many reasons to buy a second copy of a game they were likely to play at home. 3DS games were VERY different to the gamecube/Wii offerings and were UNIQUE handheld fun. PS Vita offered PS3 (PS2.5) on the go.

My personal story is that I picked up the PSP at launch as I am a huge handheld fan & bought everything from the Gameboy, NeoGeo Pocket Color to the Wonderswan & Game Gear.. and enjoyed my time with the PSP. When the PS Vita was announced, I was not excited as it didn't seem they'd really learned anything about the handheld market. I'm only sorry I was correct as I WANTED Sony to succeed.

Re: Chris Taylor, The Super Smash Bros. Fan Battling Cancer, Has Sadly Passed Away

DanteSolablood

Very sad news, but it's a great reminder that people can get together and provide happiness to others even in the grimmest of situations. I'm not a religious man.. but if he believed in a God, I hope he's with them now kicking his/her/it's butt off of Hyrule Castle Stage.

I wonder if Nintendo would be gracious enough to put a dedication somewhere in Smash Ultimate? Sounds silly, but they've done such things in the past.

Re: Sony Will Step Away From The Handheld Games Business In 2019, Leaving It All To Nintendo

DanteSolablood

Well, this is both sad & fully expected - Sony never really understood how handhelds work & simply crammed as much power into the smallest casing it could find.

When the original PSP was launched almost everyone in gaming said the UMDs (game disks) were a bad idea because of the amount of battery power they use - the only ones that didn't realise this was Sony & no one wanted to watch movies on that tiny screen when tablets were a thing meant there was no upside the UMD.

The Vita mostly died for two reasons, the software (from a Western perspective) and the memory cards. Sony was absolutely HAMMERED by piracy on the PSP and must have taken a huge hit on profits due to pretty much free game sharing in the PSP community.. Sony didn't make money on the console itself. Therefore when the PS Vita was being designed they decided to "price out" the piracy by introducing proprietary storage & charging a HUGE amount for it.

Finally, Sony never really got handheld gaming - a lot was made of playing CoD on the go... but who would actually want to play a full CoD match on a shaky train, with a poor connection & then quit the match at their stop? Sony never really understood how to make games specifically for the handheld market. This ALSO explains why the Vita did so well in Japan - RPGs have pretty much always worked on the go.

So in summary, the PSP & Vita were technical marvels but not designed well for the job they had to do. It's a shame that Nintendo loses a competitor for the handheld market... but did Sony ever really compete against Nintendo in that market?

Personally, I want to see a NeoGeo Pocket Ultimate.. NeoGeo Pocket Color quality controls with Sony power?

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Nut Pokémon ??? Speculation - Is It Kecleon? Or Brand New Pokémon 891?

DanteSolablood

@foxyglen It appears the wider pokémon community seem to agree that the #891 does not relate to it's Pokédex number but to it's asset number - when making a new generation Gamefreak round up to the nearest hundred.

The last asset number in Gen 5 was 649... Gen 6 started with 701.
The last asset number in Gen 6 was 774... Gen 7 started with 801.
-Also asset numbers are not in pokédex order.

It's been confirmed that Pokémon Go uses the same asset numbering system as the mainline games, so it seems very unlikely that this 'nut' pokémon would be a new Gen 8 pokémon, otherwise it's asset number would be 901+. The files actually tell us it's Gen 7. Also, it can't be an Alolan Ditto.. as forms share the same asset number as their original form.

Anyway, all this could be wrong, blah, blah, blah. But this is what I've gleaned from a little research on the subject.

Re: Bandai Namco Localising Two Sword Art Online Games For Switch

DanteSolablood

@OdnetninAges I'm sure they have! Looks like it's possibly Shugo from .//hack Legend of the Twilight in that image... though it could by Kite as they shared a skin.

Can't say I've actually watched Sword Art Online past the first few episodes, but it must be pretty good to get this much attention with such a stale idea (trapped in game, die in-game die in real life).

Oddly enough a lot of .//hack has found it's way into Gundam Build Divers. A Bandai anim... HEY!!!

Re: Random: Pokémon Go's 'Nut Pokémon' Has Been Causing Mayhem Among Players

DanteSolablood

@RupeeClock Indeed, it is a little too elaborate for a placeholder - most developers simply use static squares or texture sheets (though there are a few examples of studios creating fully modeled placeholders in older games that later become full characters). However, I don't blame people at all for speculating on a meaning to this Pokémon's existence - it's something new & "released" unexpectedly after a long boring (and extremely wet in my local area) Community Day.

Excusing the possible not-pokémon/nut-pokémon pun potential, let's not also forget about Niantic accidently releasing legendary/shiny raids in the past... which lasted approximately half an hour. While it may have seemed deliberate, we can't really confirm anything.

Re: Random: Pokémon Go's 'Nut Pokémon' Has Been Causing Mayhem Among Players

DanteSolablood

@RupeeClock That's possible, though that doesn't explain the Nuttos that transformed into Chikorita, or the odd few Kecleon that were also sighted & transformed into Ditto/Chikorita as well.

My personal opinion is divided between an accidental release that Niantic is covering with a mistruth, or an elaborate placeholder... though neither of those really explain why they're still in the wild today.

Re: Random: Pokémon Go's 'Nut Pokémon' Has Been Causing Mayhem Among Players

DanteSolablood

@ryancraddock Another thing to note, Joe Merrick (Serebii.net) tweeted that it had been 808 days since Pokémon Go had released when Nutto appeared.. quite a big coincidence that we see our 808th new pokémon?

@zet A lot of people including myself thought that, though the model seems too finished to be rushed out. Other theories include Nutto bein Kecleon's eye, Megearna's pre-evolution, robot Ditto & Mimikyu without it's cloth.
