Re: Brand New Sega Dreamcast Controller Hits Kickstarter And Smashes Target

DanteSolablood

@Anti-Matter @Gs69 Comparisons of Dreamcast & PS2 software output are a little unfair considering how much longer the PS2 lasted in the market. In the short time the Dreamcast was around it had some amazing killer apps like Powerstone, PSO, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio and more.

Arguably, the PS2 benefitted greatly from the passing of the Dreamcast both in third party output increase & Sega moving into their platform.

Edit: Thinking about it, Sony really was gifted by the more established companies bad practices. The Playstation exists due to Nintendo's entitled attitude at the time & Sega gave up & packed away their console making more room for them to expand.

Re: Pokémon: Let’s Go Demo Now Available From The Switch eShop

DanteSolablood

@GyroZeppeli Actually, not all 3DS demos have/had play limits, notably the Pokémon demos. When the 3DS launched nearly none of the demos were limited.

@Heavyarms55 As others have said, this demo is for people that have been holding back.. not the people that were going to buy it at launch anyway. Personally if there had been a demo out before I picked up the game I'd have waited, the throw mechanics really do kill the fun for me.

Re: Random: Tell Us Who You Love In This Official Pokémon Poll For Valentine's Day

DanteSolablood

@Lionyone @KingBowser86 You are correct Lionyone, the use of the word spastic is considered pretty horrific here in the UK (So much so that Hasbro had place stickers over the name of thousands of toys they had named "Spastic" without thinking").

However, this is an online forum with lots of users from different countries. Unless someone is deliberately using it in an insulting way it's best to let it go.

I say this as the older brother/guardian of an autistic man who was abused with the word spastic as he was growing up.

Edit: And now back to the light-hearted "who do I fancy" comments.

Re: Here's What Peter Molyneux's Next Game, Legacy, Looks Like

DanteSolablood

Visually, and from the description this game just strikes me as any other town builder you can find in abundance on smartphones already.

While I have confidence that Molyneux can bring his usual novel charm to the game, I'll take some convincing that I won't get board of it after a few weeks.

Plus if it's adverts about "We need a pool" I'm throwing it out the window.

Re: Video: Sakurai Declined Offer To Work On Oculus VR Games Because Of The Small Audience

DanteSolablood

@DartBuzzer I disagree with your analysis that the buzz behind VR has been bigger this time around. On VR's first go of the wheel we had game shows, movies, changes to our language and rolling news reports depicting how VR would revolutionise our world - this time around (even 2 years ago) most of the news around VR was in tech news & looking at how it could bring sales to the gaming industry.

I do admit however that my comparison to 3D TV was based purely on the cyclical nature of VR & not to it's usefulness. VR has had some practical uses such as keyhole surgery - though most of your other examples have been concepts since the late 80s/early 90s.

You may be correct about the Google Glass concept however! I will never discount any vision of the future OR assert that I have any better foresight than anyone else.

Re: Team Waffles Wins Splatoon 2's Breakfast Battle Splatfest

DanteSolablood

@Gen0neD Haha, I wish it was that easy predicting who'd win! I was on team Pancakes and barely lost a match.. won one of them with 84% of the turf to 7%.

@Matthew010 Oddly enough, in real life it's always the waffles that are battered.

@SMW Its a great feeling isn't it, I managed to bag a screenshot of my team on the Splatfest screen outside the lobby.

Re: Nintendo Will Continue To Sell The 3DS, As Long As There Is Consumer Demand For It

DanteSolablood

@thesilverbrick Oh, indeed! I understand it's more complicated than simple screen layout. However, there are much more practical complications behind a "3DS slot" (many of which you have in your reply) than the number of screens. I just hear number of screens brought up too often when it's a non-issue.

And let's not forget another important reason that Nintendo wouldn't add a 3DS slot to the Switch.. why sell one console when you're already happily selling two?

Re: We're Getting Another Third-Party Switch Joy-Con With A D-Pad

DanteSolablood

To be honest, I don't need most of the features listed in the article for the faux Joycon such as NFC.. that's only really useful in single player & in that instance I have the official right joycon.

Give me a d-pad & wireless functionality & I'm good.

Oh and maybe skip the default colour options as we kinda have those already.

Re: Nintendo President Says 20 Million Switch Target Failed Due To "Insufficient" Efforts To Convey Its Appeal

DanteSolablood

I find it odd people are asking for "more quality first party games," this is a self-contradiction. Any developer can pump out okay games at a rate of knots (except EA who struggle to squeeze out the odd lootbox machine reskin), meanwhile Nintendo prefer to work on their games until they're good enough to be considered classics.

Hopefully Nintendo can wind-down the 3DS a little more quickly & put more resources into Switch development.

Considering that 2 years ago a lot of people on NLife didn't see Nintendo even HAVING hardware to sell past winter 2018, I think they've done pretty well.

Re: Smash Bros. Piranha Plant Save File Issues Possibly Linked To Counterfeit SD Cards

DanteSolablood

@rjejr To be fair, it was the third party docks causing the bricking issue. While it's true Nintendo didn't use standard USB-C coding to run the Switch in docked mode, it was up to the third parties to research & test their products thoroughly before releasing them.

@LegendOfStewart Just a nitpick on this one, but due to the type of storage Nintendo are using on the Switch, game storage sizes are considerably smaller than they are compared with other consoles. Take Doom.. it's 73GB on the PS4, 13GB on the Switch.

While I agree that the Switch could probably not run RDR2, I doubt the game would take up anywhere near the same storage space that it did on PS4 (especially with all backend changes that would need to be made to port it).

Re: No, Nintendo's German YouTube Channel Is Not Preparing For An Animal Crossing Switch Reveal

DanteSolablood

@Silly_G @sikthvash I can't see Nintendo doing something like this with their mainline games at the moment, if Nintendo want to squeeze customers for cash they get a third party to develop a mobile version so they can wash their hands of it.

On their own hardware however, Nintendo is still one of the few companies that doesn't remove content to sell it to you later. Compare SSBU to most other fighters.. SSBU has 74 unlockable characters built in, meanwhile some of the recent fighters from other companies start with 6 & don't even hit 30 after spending £40/50.

Re: Fresh New Splatoon 2 Update Splashes Onto The Switch

DanteSolablood

The main update I was after was the ability to play online through Vodafone.. so frustrating wanting jump into a game when out & about but having the wrong network provider!

I only got into Splatoon 2 mid-last year? I'm absolutely loving it! If anyone on NLife are looking to make a team, count me In!

Re: Legendary Has Already Begun Work On A Detective Pikachu Sequel

DanteSolablood

@Heavyarms55 Very true and just imagine, the Lord of the Rings trilogy filmed three movies back to back before the first one had been released.. even MORE arrogant!

I get what you mean though, if you're not looking forward to a movie (and I definitely didn't like the LotR trilogy) then it can seem dumb to film sequels in advance of release.. but it happens all the time.

Sometimes it makes sense to risk moving too quickly (especially with a young cast).

*Edit: on the "something new" part of your comment, it's based on a top selling game from a smash hit franchise. Movie series have been based in less.

Re: Hori Is Releasing A Splatoon 2-Themed Tabletop Playstand For Your Switch

DanteSolablood

@hihelloitsme I use mine all the time, but only for Splatoon 2 when I'm out & about. For some games that rely on motion controls the feeling between console mode & handheld mode is just far too different... when I'm at home with my Pro Controller I can get 12 Splats (kills) a match, on handheld I struggle 2-3. The playstand elevates the screen into a more "tv-like" position allowing me to use the Joycon grip freely.

@Klingki I'd personally add "when you're at a coffee shop with a good net connection but the tables are wobbly & you don't want to trust your £250 console & gamesave to the kickstand." The Hori stand is pretty rock solid.

*Edited for Samsung spellcheck madness.

Re: Soulja Boy Says His Next Console Will Feature Fortnite, Epic Games Says "No"

DanteSolablood

@WarpSpawn That's a bit harsh on @ryancraddock as I'm sure the "manufacturing" comment was just a joke. However, you are correct that none of the Soulja devices have been re-skinned. I believe one of the original Soulja handhelds received a sticker on the outside of the unopened box.. but everything else is just straight from China.

Whatever legal action that's been threatened, needs to take place. It's clear Soulja Boy doesn't care about/is too dumb to understand the law.

Re: Rumour: Level-5 Game Delays Linked To Mass "Employee Exodus"

DanteSolablood

Unfortunately "mass exodus" is so vague there's no real way of telling what it means. To me it brings up:
1) Staff quitting, maybe pay/conditions?
2) Staff jumping ship to other studios.
3) Staff cuts linked to overseas sales.

Because "mass exodus" is so vague, I'll take it with a grain of salt as people tend to make vague guesses so they can seem right no matter what the truth is.
