Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 30th December - 5th January, revealing that Pokémon Sword and Shield is still at number one as we enter the new year.
Pokémon's latest entry has held top spot ever since it launched in mid-November, comfortably holding off the competition each week. The two titles have now surpassed three million physical sales in the region, which incidentally means that they have now outsold evergreen smash hit Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (in the physical market, at least) and are nearing the lofty heights of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [NSW] Pokémon Sword and Shield (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} - 196.925 / 3.185.059
2) [NSW] Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo) {2019.10.31} - 52.434 / 558.432
3) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 52.195 / 2.711.204
4) [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft Game Studios) {2018.06.21} - 46.963 / 1.192.902
5) [NSW] Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 (Sega) {2019.11.01} - 44.605 / 239.733
6) [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} - 43.274 / 3.496.326
7) [NSW] Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch (Nintendo) {2019.12.27} - 41.455 / 76.151
8) [NSW] Super Mario Party (Nintendo) {2018.10.05} - 37.903 / 1.301.613
9) [NSW] Fishing Spirits: Nintendo Switch Version (Bandai Namco Games) {2019.07.25} - 30.705 / 367.700
10) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 30.432 / 526.071
Hardware sales appear to be unavailable at the moment, possibly owing to the fact that these chart statistics have been delayed thanks to the holidays. Hopefully, Famitsu's hardware sales data will resume in the next chart update.
Instead, we'll leave you with the fact that a mighty 26 of the top 30 games this week were on Nintendo Switch. As PS4 starts to wind down ahead of the PS5 launch later this year, we imagine the Switch will continue to dominate the Japanese chart throughout 2020.
Any surprises this week? Let us know in the comments.

"we'll leave you with the fact that a mighty 26 of the top 30 games this week were on Nintendo Switch"
Top 21 was all Switch games. Insanity
Top 10 games on that week were Switch games ! 😮
I'm glad to see Luigi's Mansion 3 still doing well. It must have passed 2 million sales worldwide by now? It is up there with Nintendo's best I reckon, it oozes quality and has arguably, the best graphics Nintendo have ever put out!
I guess sales numbers will come back down to earth with last week’s sales since the holiday season is now over in Japan.
Colossal sales, incredible stuff.
I only have one thing to say:
DUH
26 of the top 30? That's insane! The numbers are huge too. Ring Fit was tenth with 30,000 sales, that would be enough for top three most weeks. Incredible.
over 95% of all physical sales was for Nintendo Switch. That is insane considering about 700K units of software was sold
The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the Power of Nintendo.
Japanese charts are always satisfying while UK charts make my eyes bleed
The new Pokemon games are great fun. Yes, they could easily be upgraded with cut scenes and voice acting (and they should have it at this stage) but there is no denying they are fun and these games are bringing great enjoyment for our family and I’m glad they are seeing success.
Nintendo’s success in Japan is unreal. Whilst I hope the West’s charts will one day more closely reflect this (not be dominated by Nintie, but have more nuance in their titles) I can’t help but think Japan is helping ensure we see many more titles coming to this console in the years ahead.
[THIS IS SARCASM!]
No guys, trust me, those guys at Push Square are right. This is just fake news put out by Nintendo fanboys in Japan. Nintendo is doomed. It's over. This time next year we'll be getting HD ports of Nintendo games on PS5 announced after Nintendo goes bankrupt and Sony buys them out. But don't worry, they wont be straight ports, Sony will give the rights to EA to handle it - so there will be plenty of micro transactions too!
@Heavyarms55 your a joke.if you had any knowledge of gaming Nintendo has been around since the 1800s 2..Nintendo said when they are done.thier ips.are done.so good luck with you think wasnt crash sony boy???he on every console now.there are about 3 or 4 xbone only games on switch now.still no Nintendo ips on theirs
Do a thing called goggle sword and shield best selling pokemon game of all time.even beat red
And blue

@Darkyoshi98 get out the wrong side of bed today?
Luigi’s Mansion rocks. So pleased it’s selling well. More new GC classic games please!!
@Heavyarms55 I don't think anyone ever said that.
I’d be curious to see how Nintendo uses all this loot. I’d imagine there is some sort of percentage based system; 40% r&d, 10% marketing , 30% profit etc...I guess some would go into a “war chest” for lean times and currency shenanigans.
Dullest question here? Ha ha
@Darkyoshi98 I think he's just fishing for an argument, he knows what he said was trash
I just hope Ring Fit Adventure keeps selling well enough to get DLC or a sequel. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.
Pokemon still on top...seems to have legs...need to see the worldwide sales figures though.
Brain Training sold better week 2 than week 1.
Great for Luigi Mansion 3. Loved that game!
Super Mario Party keeps selling, surely there's a sequel in the works?
@Octane
I know who will say like that.
Well... The Sligy Eire, cobalt. 😆
They were keep denying Switch sales.
@Heavyarms55 Some people on here do not understand sarcasm lol.
I wonder if Tokyo Mirage sessions will even have any remote chance at number 1, I'd guess something will eventually knock it out this month or next.
@Heavyarms55 lmao sorry nobody here can take a joke bud. I thought it was pretty funny. The PushSquare writers ARE getting really haughty lately, a lot of smelling-Sony's-farts going on over there. I just leave them to it, at least their "journalism" has its own separate site to pollute.
@Heavyarms55 Man, I thought the sarcasm in your comment was pretty obvious, sorry you got attacked right off the bat.
@SquareOneMJ *Coalossal sales
Yet I bet there are still some Nintendoomers who think the Switch will fail..
@Heavyarms55 the only thing you could’ve done to make it more obvious you were being sarcastic is literally say “this is sarcasm”. I’m guessing anyone who didn’t catch that though don’t speak English as their first language? Still, sucks how quickly people get worked up and aggressive online, I appreciate the sarcasm.
@ShadJV English isn't my native tongue and I understood the sarcasm. Some people are just thick. 😅
Glad to see Ring Fit doing well. I remember not long ago people were saying it didn't do well, already over half a million in Japan alone.
@ShadJV @AnnoyingFrenzy @TeslaChippie @dougphisig Glad someone got the joke! Anyone regular on this site should know I am a pretty die hard Nintendo nut.
@Octane @Darkyoshi98 JOKE Like others pointed out, I think the only way to have made it more obvious would have been to say directly that was a joke.
@OorWullie
5 - 6 million is a better estimate.
@Heavyarms55 I knew you were joking, but the question was whether you were one of those "Xbox and PlayStation people are stupid" people or not. Because looking at some of the replies, those still exist as well lol.
@Octane Well honestly I haven't liked MS since the 360. But I've got a PS3 and PS4 sitting under my TV.
Though my issue with MS isn't an active dislike, just a lack of liking. The way I see it is that they don't offer anything meaningful that is unique to them. Sony has VR and a very impressive roster of exclusive titles. Nintendo has a hybrid system and its unmatched library of exclusive IP. MS has... a small handful of exclusives... And that's it.
Though to be fair, I actually do prefer the Xbox controller to the PS Dualshock. But it's a minor thing for me and not remotely enough to make me consider picking up an Xbone or Xbox Series Stupid name. (That's the other thing, I find their names very silly)
@KryptoniteKrunch Yeah some folks around here want it to fail. It does seem to be in high demand, you’d think some people value their health over wasting their lives vegetating in front of a screen watching your protagonist trudge through rubble killing everything in sight while counting pixels and framerates.
