Re: Feature: Rare Turns 35 This Week - We Pick 10 Highlights From The Nintendo Years

Cyberbotv2

Man, looking back at this list reminds me of the greatness of the N64. All of Rare's titles, THQ, Acclaim, Midway. All the games were unique. I do take exception with this list noting things sound or look dated. That's ridiculous. This form of art medium has its merits just like classic music, films, and books.
I have always hated the fact Microsoft bought Rare. All these properties ( Jet Force Gemini) fell under their ownership, and they have done absolutely nothing with it. It took them 2 decades to bring Battletoads. And I'm still bitter about Goldeneye. That's a game, like all past Rare titles, that should be sitting on a Nintendo console. Yes, I know there would be a licensing issue, but at least Nintendo wouldn't have to deal with Microsoft.

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

Cyberbotv2

I have an xbox, and I already feel Microsoft is in a deep hole against the PS5. Their message has been muddled, because at times it seems you won't need the newest console to play xbox games. I could stick with my current xbox. Then get game pass and play on my phone too. It's weird. Also, the games MS have shown leave alot to be desired. Another Halo...I'm good.
Sony has had good messaging. But I'm still playing my PS3, so my next purchase would be a PS4. I'm glad to see PS5 will be backwards compatible with a majority of PS4 games.
The Switch is fine. Nintendo is not releasing a Pro next year or the year after. They said quite some time ago, this is going to be a long generation. I'm sure Nintendo is going to drop significant info in September after Sony and MS have revealed their console prices, which might make folks reconsider what they're spending money on. Especially in what is going to be a very tight economy. I'll be playing my backlog for the next few years, so I'll do the occasional game purchase here and there but nothing beyond that.

Re: Talking Point: Have You Missed E3 This Year?

Cyberbotv2

I look forward to E3 every year even with the diminished show the past decade. But these online presentations have been pretty lame. I haven't watched a Nintendo presentation since the start of the year. The Xbox games showcase was boring. I fell asleep after the opening Halo stuff. The Sony showcases have been interesting. The games actually look good, and if they have significant backwards compatibility for PS5, I may jump on it in a few years. I said a few years, mainly because I expect a global economic recession for the next 5 to 10 years. So, I don't know if videogames are going to be a priority for folks moving forward.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?

Cyberbotv2

I'd spend 70 dollars for sure. I purchased WWF No Mercy and a few other N64 games at 70 bucks. Absolutely worth it...however those were physical cartridges, with no internet mandated downloads. I'm already hesitant the last few years with internet connected games. And I'm not paying 70 or more dollars for a digital game.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

Cyberbotv2

@Michaelrojelio84 ; I'm sure you're correct. I have a backlog. Seeing MS and Sony pumping out info consistently makes it feel as if Nintendo is twiddling their thumbs. But the truth is likely that Nintendo, as well as Sony and MS know customers may be significantly limited when it comes to purchases for entertainment options as the rest of this year progresses and 2021 drags. When funds become limited, frivolous purchases drop. It would probably behoove Nintendo to drop their fall schedule sooner than later because the piece of the pie they want will be quite small this and next year.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

Cyberbotv2

I'm indifferent to Nintendo in general the last 5 to 6 months. Some of the 3rd party stuff has been good, with 2K, and Need for speed, etc.
My interest has gone toward what Microsoft and Sony have been doing. Even whipped out my PS3 to play games recently.
Nintendo has had goodwill with the Switch, but that can quickly be lost when significant competition pops up and the game schedule goes barren.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time For WWE No Mercy To Make A Comeback On Nintendo Switch

Cyberbotv2

@dcamp335 : I made Bret in No Mercy with his mid 80s black outfit, and came close on his 1997 1998 look. His taunting animations were close but not quite there. I easily incorporated his moveset. Only move missing was the figure four around the ring post. Btw, he is my favorite wrestler ever, and I actually met him at an autograph signing 6 years ago. He was so down to earth. Getting a chance to meet my hero was such a great moment. I'll always cherish that.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time For WWE No Mercy To Make A Comeback On Nintendo Switch

Cyberbotv2

@BeautyandtheBeer : Haha! I have to respectfully disagree with you. Wrestling is an absolute joke at this stage. It's all a spot fest, with little to no believability.
I just watched Survivor Series 96 a few days ago, and the best match on the card Stone Cold vs Bret Hart was legit. It was rough, a story was told, and it felt real. Even the other matches held up, mainly because of the physicality, and again a story being told.
I think wrestling, in a few years will be done in the States, mainly due to the idiocy of the higher ups ( HHH, Tony Khan, Vince and Stephanie).

Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?

Cyberbotv2

I was really hoping to see Madden or NHL arrive on the switch, but that probably won't ever happen.
Why is Nintendo not stepping in with a sports division of their own? It's a joke Nintendo has put out to pasture Ken Griffey baseball, NBA Courtside, etc.
I'm definitely looking into the new PS5 and Xbox series X when it comes to sports.

Re: EA Is Bringing Seven Games To Nintendo Switch Over The Next 12 Months

Cyberbotv2

Man, I was hoping for sports games, but I dont see it. Namely NHL, Madden, and a new NBA Live. The Switch is severely lacking in sports. NBA 2K has great foundational gameplay, but it's way too interconnected with online garbage. I mean, it's been since the Gamecube since serious sports have been on a Nintendo console. Where's Nintendo with a follow up to Courtside, Ken Griffey Slugfest, etc?

Edit: forgot to mention Super Mega Baseball. Great game.

Re: Grab NBA 2K20 On Sale For Just £2.49 On The European Switch eShop

Cyberbotv2

I'd be hesitant to purchase it, even at that price point. The underlying bones of the game are fantastic, such as myleague and myGM. However, they need more customization. You should be able to play in different eras with a better, faster way to customize rosters. In 2k19, I created a 1995 1996 roster, and worked out the options to mimic 90s basketball, as in more post play and minimal three point shots. It took months, and it still wasn't perfect. Recreating Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, and multiple other missing players is ardurous. I really have zero interest with using today's players and rules, because it's way too jump shot happy, and defense is a joke. I wish EA or Nintendo ( Courtside) would do a fully customized game where you could create your own rosters, arenas, and tendencies.

Re: Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Revealed, A New Story Expansion Launching This Month

Cyberbotv2

Robocop!! This game is just getting better and better! I wonder what other characters may arrive in the future? Maybe Predator? Rambo? Haha, I love this.
I've been surprised how well MK plays on the Switch. I played with my friend on Steam, and was so impressed with the ridiculous story, I bought it on Switch. And I'm glad we're getting continuous DLC. I remember the Wii U getting shut out for stuff like this.

Re: Talking Point: We Should Brace For A Huge Games Industry Knock-On Effect Following The CERO Shutdown

Cyberbotv2

I believe the Olympics were postponed until 2021.

Considering how folks run through games, a little time to digest a large backlog will actually be best. I expect Nintendo to hold off on any Directs until mid to late summer. I wonder what Microsoft and Sony are going to do. If they release these likely expensive consoles this year or next year, I don't expect monumental sales. The global economy may not recover the way anyone expects, and money, especially for secondary things like movies, videogames and sporting events will plunge. Hopefully that means a return to quality when things resume. I still think Nintendo is going to own the year, with a likely price drop, and multiple ports. Save the big stuff for holiday 2021, I say.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #36 - Streets Of Rage 3

Cyberbotv2

The descriptions are hilarious. The European Box Art is so unappealing. I like the Japanese art because it looks like a painting, but the North American one wins for me. There's a kangaroo with boxing gloves on the cover. C'mon!

Re: The End Of An Era: E3 2020 Is Officially Cancelled

Cyberbotv2

@Yorumi : Extreme reactions are the norm now. You're right about the hurricane response. The internet, social media, and tv outlets hit a turning point when President Bush had to handle Hurricane Katrina. The response was exaggerated due to all these ways people could express their issues.
Unfortunately, this type of thing is only going to worsen, especially with a whole generation raised on the internet. Bad or good, extreme response are here to stay.

Re: Nintendo Named And Shamed As Benefiting From The Use Of Chinese Forced Labour Camps

Cyberbotv2

@johnvboy : I agree with that too. Consumerism breeds greed. A consumer always wants more, and a majority don't care how it gets there, as long as it gets there.

Again, I'm not sure what the solution would be. To pay workers more would require a cut in a corporation's profit. Then they would raise prices to maintain or increase profit. Government can institute consumer, VAT taxes to fund services that would normally be deducted from paychecks to increase take home pay. I dont know. I can't imagine the average American consumer paying more for goods, and the younger generation has become used to these flattened prices. That has already happened in Japan. They have an entire generation that balks at VAT increases and will wait or outright not purchase goods. Again, complicated situation, and whoever comes up with a solution will have to appease both the consumer and the corporation.

Re: Nintendo Named And Shamed As Benefiting From The Use Of Chinese Forced Labour Camps

Cyberbotv2

@DarthFoxMcCloud : Great comment. All of the blame falls on the corporations. And I'm an American moderate that's pro business, and owns and operates my own small business. These companies have been using outside, underground cheap labor for decades while removing many of those jobs from areas where they were a norm. I'm not sure how any one government can combat this without a significant step back in terms of economic growth. This is a very complicated situation and a solution is going to take decades, not a few days, months or years.

Re: 2K Joins The Rest Of The World In Tribute To Basketball Legend Kobe Bryant

Cyberbotv2

Horrible news. Both Kobe and his daughter, Gianna to have passed away like this...no words.

Beyond videogames, I am an ardent NBA fan, especially the 90s into early 2000s. I'm a Pacers fan, and in the 2000 NBA finals, we encountered Kobe, Shaq and the Lakers. We did the best to beat them, but Kobe's greatness shined through, especially in Game 4 in Indiana, when he returned from an ankle sprain and turned the series. A maniacal competitor, as an opponent, I despised him but respected the drive, and spirit to constantly compete. He never rested. He always showed up for fans from all cities to watch. An old school player cut from the cloth of old school players. Again, RIP to Kobe and Gianna.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2020

Cyberbotv2

Dark Souls 2 from From Software is what I'm wondering about. And possibly 3 for that matter. I hope the first sold well enough to warrant the Switch community getting the sequels.
Resident Evil 2 would be amazing. Capcom could even put the N64 version on the eshop and that would suffice. But the remake is very, very good.
Shenmue 1 and 2 would be a great fit on the Switch. There's a few Dreamcast games I would like to see on the Switch, such as Space Channel 5, Crazy Taxi, etc.

But in all likelihood, we'll see none of these. I'll just wait for the Game Boy portion of Nintendo Switch Online to pop up.

Re: The Devil May Cry Switch Trilogy Pack Includes Download Codes For The Second And Third Game

Cyberbotv2

Sounds good to me. I'm already enjoying the RE triple pack.

I guess Capcom does this in all likelihood to cut down on used game sales. Those codes in the box can only be redeemed once. I don't think this has to do with cart size. At least you don't have to have the cart in to play the downloaded games, like Final Fantasy X/X2. Otherwise, at least the community is getting these games on the Switch. So I'm happy.

Re: These Are The Best-Selling Third-Party Games On Nintendo Platforms In America

Cyberbotv2

That's great to see WCW/NWO Revenge on top for the N64. I thought WWF No Mercy would've topped it, but that WCW Roster was loaded. Macho Man, Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, the NWO with Hogan, Goldberg, Scott Steiner...man what a great game.
I do remember going with my friend to EB games to get the game after school. We came back and played for hours. Ah, the N64. Still the greatest console I've ever played, with the gamecube right behind it.
