Everything old is new again in a way. And to me that's a good thing. The design of the Switch just works. There's many an xbox game that I don't want to sit in front of a tv to play and I would for one reason would like to try on Switch. Resident Evil, Dead Space, NBA 2K, Injustice, etc. I have these games on Steam and Xbox and just don't play. Switch is just making everything unique with the setup and making it feel premium. I've got to get one soon.
They could focus on one or two games, and I would give a flying hoot. They need to clearly outline their OS, online, and virtual console plans. Without that, E3 will be a failure to me. And they need to convince the Nintendo nuts that some of these third party games such as Skyrim and NBA 2K18 are actually worth the purchase. I'm gonna guess, and say they do none of this.
Every single one of those games should appear on the Switch. Include Wonderful 101 too. When I do get a switch, I would love to have my Wii U games ported over, while Nintendo works on unrelated franchises that never made the Wii U. Fill in your gaps with these ports then satisfy my hunger for Metroid, Kid Icarus, and the long awaited Eternal Darkness sequel!
@90sRetroGaming , the servers usually stay up 18 to 24 months. And the regular version of the game is more than enough. Once you enter franchise mode, your life is over. It might be the deepest mode of any sports franchise that I've ever played.
@Dangerous25 , 2BAD is a good jam. They may include that track on NBA 2k18 now that I think about it! And I recall there was an unreleased song called We Be Ballin or something like that with Shaq and MJ going all out.
@IceClimbers : if there's the same gameplay and lack of hiccups in portable mode, this could sell really well. I know the Nintendo faithful may think Mario Kart, BOTW, Splatoon, etc. can push switches out the door, but a sports title like this could be far more impactful. NBA 2K always sits in the North American charts for months after release. And that goes for other sports as well. I hope EA is interested in pushing their NHL, and Madden brand on the Switch. Sports games sell well.
This is the game that will decide my purchase of a Switch. This is the first time NBA 2K is appearing on a cartridge format. If I can boogie on handheld mode and it looks and plays the same as previous versions, this might be really good.
Oh you'll know when Nintendo is done with the DS line, and its all connected to the e-shop. If they have concrete plans to absorb the 3ds eshop into the the Switch virtual shop, that will get my attention. I want a Switch, but I'm not wasting my time looking for it this year or next. But I would pick up a 2dsxl just for the catalogue of games. I haven't owned a handheld since the original ds.
I wonder what happens to the 3ds eshop when they discontinue the ds line? Last portable I owned was the original DS, and I'm tempted by the new 2DS. And it's because the game catalog is huge. Nintendo not outlining their online, vc, and eshop stuff is keeping me away. I'm fairly confident they will screw this up.
I hope to see an increased projection of units sold for the next fiscal year. It would instill confidence and also guarantee units would be readily available. I'm tempted to purchase the Switch soon, but it's still looking like Christmas 2017 or early 2018 for me, unless Eternal Darkness gets revealed at E3. That would grab me.
Zero interest in this. I had actually wanted to purchase the NES Mini, and never saw it anywhere. If the SNES rumor is true, it will be the same situation in terms of stock as NES Mini, Amiibos, and now the Switch. Nintendo's disorganization and miscommunication will screw them at some point.
It was an interesting presentation. Splatoon 2 with that terrible voice over sort of turned me off. ARMS looked interesting, but it dragged because it was seemingly stretched out. The Direct did nothing to draw in a possible new customer like myself. I'm good with my xbox one for now.
You would hope Nintendo would have extreme confidence in the Switch. But there's no way they sell a gargantuan number of consoles with their current retail lineup. The only games that have me interested are FIFA and NBA 2K18. They need something outside of their first party IP that already showed up on Wii U. I'm waiting for the end of the year and possibly 2018 to pick one up. Hopefully something not seen in awhile pops up, like Eternal Darkness or an actual Nintendo sports game.
That was an excellent review! The New York Times mentioned in their review that there was some glare on the screen in handheld mode, and I didn't notice any mention in the review. If NBA 2K18 arrives in the fall functioning well, I may purchase earlier than expected.
I'm not picking up a Switch at launch. But I'm sold on the concept. If they have a significant user base by the end of the year, I might consider it. And the games really matter this time. A gamecube vc is a big priority for me. And I hope they get consistent third party support. Right now, I'm thinking Christmas 2017 might be the time.
@nhSnork , if Capcom dropped a Revelations 1 and 2 pack, with the possibility of a third, I would think very hard about the switch. And I've played through those games. They are excellent.
Resident Evil is my all time favorite franchise. I'm able to play 0,1,4, 5, 6, and Revelations on my xbox one. Its going to very hard for Nintendo to convince Capcom to bring over any RE game if the Switch user base isn't huge and actually willing to purchase third party games.
@Andrzej777 , Exactly! Nintendo will milk this base and are strictly looking for profits. I understand, but the fan base can't possibly think what they have presented is affordable or presents true value. You want value right now? Buy an xbox one s. The amount of games, new and backwards compatibilty, and media options is ridiculous.
@impurekind , hahaha.Spot on. I think Nintendo could have announced one game and the console at 800 dollars, and the hardcore would still be selling it as the next coming.
I look forward to the list of third party games. I have zero interest in pre ordering a switch. What turned me off was the actual presentation followed by the prices, not just the console but the accessories. 90 dollars for a dock? The launch line up doesn't inspire me at all. I like Zelda, but I'm not buying a console for one game. Where's the sports games? No VC announcement? Online is unclear. My biggest gripe is, what have these guys been doing the past two years while I gave up on my Wii U and modded it?
That's a very high estimate. I think it will sell well in Japan, but be limited in Europe and the U.S. especially if higher tariffs are imposed with new administrations.
@PGS_71 , I remember when 2K shut down those servers. It was like six months in. Nintendo must be forced to charge a fee from their customer presumably to pay 2K to keep their servers up. I'm sure the fall is when this goes into effect because most third party games arrive at the end of the year. I'm only guessing though.
@electrolite77 : Thanks. I'm assuming they give a fat discount to own the game after that 1 month period. I would hope they include licensed games now too. It would give reason to pay for such a service, because I have little interest playing online. I ventured online a few times with Gears of War on my xbox, and was blasted to bits in a few minutes. I can only imagine what hardcore maniacs would be waiting for me with a Nintendo game.
Is it actually true that there's going to be one nes or snes game available for the month then disappears? I feel like something has been missed in translation.
I have zero issue with Nintendo charging for online. However, I suspect Nintendo expects some loss here. This explains total lack of games. And lack of anything resembling an appropriate plan. They are going to milk every bit out of those early adopters. Those folks will pay for the first party games and be the guinea pigs for the online experiment. And Nintendo, in order to have third party games are going to need some sort of online infrastructure. They want to see that. I just don't think Nintendo only fans are going to be enough to keep Nintendo afloat anymore.
@dkxcalibur :You are spot on. Blind loyalty is what can kill a product. Nintendo damaged their brand, possibly beyond repair with what they did with Wii U. And I'm sure they lost many customers with that. They lost me. I moved over to Microsoft and have been enjoying all the backwards compatible, and new xbox games. And being able to play Resident Evil, Fallout, etc, is all I wanted. I don't think switch will have any of this. I just don't feel trotting out Mario, Zelda, and company is going to sell a system these days. People actually do want to play other types of games. I hope Nintendo does well, but I think they may drop the ball at the end of the day.
@ThanosReXXX : Thanks! I'll be reading through this the next few days. And you are so right about the Wii acting as a super retro console. The N64 emulators are hit and miss with some games, but my Wii sits right next to my N64. I use these two much more than my Wii U and Xbox one right now.
@ThanosReXXX : I'll check out the VGA Box. Any recommendations for the N64? I actually play that system the most, and newer tv's don't seem to output quite right.
@Samurai_Goroh : I agree. I know this is a nintendo love fest on this site, but to dismiss the ability to run FIFA? That game is a huge deal globally. But I'm not surprised. The Nintendo base at this point thinks the other consoles are producing nothing of note. Look at the yearly iterations of NBA 2K, with 2k17 looking ridiculous with its feature set. Look at Tomb Raider. Look at Fallout. If Nintendo wants to be taken seriously again, they need a truly diverse lineup and as many games as possible. Another Mario and Zelda is not fixing their situation.
I'm not much for handhelds, but it was a good direct for the 3DS. However, they should have shown a video of the Wii U being obliterated by Nintendo execs. Talk about not caring at all about those Wii U console owners. Rough times are ahead if they think they're going to recapture the console market with whatever the NX is.
Woah, if that's their initial lineup, you can count on Nintendo riding off into the Sunset for good. Those games have done nothing for Wii U business. Now, if they have Eternal Darkness, a Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest type of game, or something like Bravely Default , I'm in. They need diversity.
@CidMaik , I had a few days to think about this too, and feel the same way. I'm starting to think this handheld will be the core, with that base being upgradeable, sort of like a pc.
@ThanosReXXX , thanks for posting those videos! X1 or X2...I don't think I can tell the difference between gamecube and wii u games anyway, so these types of graphics on a handheld is very good. I wonder if Nintendo held back N64 and gamecube games to whip them out on the NX. Do you think the eshop will migrate over to the NX?
@ThanosReXXX : Thanks! I'll delve into all of this tonight. If the NX were to launch with anything Eternal Darkness related, it would diversify Nintendo's offerings and might allow outside appeal. I wonder if they have other IP's out there other than the mainstays that are being prepped for the NX.
