Super Mario Maker 2 Players Have Now Uploaded More Than 26 Million Courses

This game has been really popular, so it's not surprise. Other than...certain aspects of the online play, Nintendo really hit it out of the park with this game.

I really enjoyed Mario Maker 2, I wish they would keep adding content though. Even just small things like more enemies would go a long way.

Now, play them all.

It's a huge number. Too bad Nintendo seems unwilling to support the game further. We never even got a single new style.

I made 2....and I'm only proud of one of them lol. Had a blast playing other people's levels though 😂

I haven't uploaded too much, can't remember how many I made aside from the nightmare levels. I wanna get back into it but...eh, I wished more youtubers/streamers would play this game some more and do viewer levels or something.

I've uploaded about 5, but am not proud of any of my babies. I like the idea of making a level, but it quickly feels like homework. I love playing the levels other people have made though. Playing all the mini castles, speedruns, puzzle levels, music levels, glitch levels, etc is some of the best gaming fun I've had over the past couple years.

Imagine if they actually highlighted quality levels instead of letting the top and trending tabs be nothing but the same sorta junk which in turn created a echo chamber where more and more of the same junk levels are pumped out. This entire game is one big unforced error after another when it could have been one of the Switch’s Crown Jewels.

And I never played a single one...

@SalvorHardin Good levels are not hard to find if you use the "detailed search" function.

I have had builder' block LOL, but ya I have made about 10.

So... which one is the hardest?

I honestly haven’t played Super Mario Maker 2 as much as I thought I would. I feel like I already did everything in Super Mario Maker 1, which I put far more time into.

I've uploaded 31 levels right now. And have 295 likes on my profile.

I got it.. played for a couple of hours... then returned it.... i love me a mario game.... just not mario makers aparently

Fun Fact: There are more copies sold of Animal Crossing: New Horizons than there are uploaded Super Mario Maker 2 courses.

And 99.8% of levels are crap, to put it mildly

@MatoFilipovic Well, that would leave us with 5200 good levels which is way more than a normal person will ever play

The popular tab is oversaturated with music, refreshing, and kaizo stages. Boring

@Inc Thanks for posting your world's code! I played about 7 of your levels and enjoyed them all. You also have a bunch of fun levels that you've hearted/liked. People complaining about all the bad levels just need to learn how to search and/or judge a level by it's cover (many good levels have at least a good handful of likes, and thankfully refreshing levels are easy to spot by their thumbnail, as are many garbage levels).

@echoplex That’s awesome! I’m a cheapskate so if I found YouTube videos of levels I would reverse engineer them into my custom levels. Took a lot of time, but it was definitely fun!

I honestly put this down pretty quickly because I had such a hard time finding quality courses (more than the usual “push no buttons” or random crap flying everywhere ones).

Can anyone recommend a good place where quality levels are shared?

I have a 9 course Super World ID: LHF-VC0-XVF (all levels are above 10% clear rate).
I stopped making new courses after my last course got knocked off the popular tab into obscurity. I had fun creating unique levels with as much detail/fun as I could but, fighting for exposure was just too much. I did learn to make accessible/fun level design and random endless users still seem to enjoy my creations.

Across a few different accounts at the moment I have 198 courses uploaded

I have uploaded about 80 levels so far. I have one more planned for the 2nd anniversary though it may be my last. Without any new updates I am losing my motivation to continue. As much as I have enjoyed the game the past 2 years.

And I've contributed just 1 level since launch lol. But only like 5 people out of 300 have cleared it. It's kinda chaotic, but not impossible by any means. I'm more of a player, not a level creator. Super Mario Maker 2 is a great game though!

@SalvorHardin I don't think their search function is good enough. There are way too many levels and they should make a mode that promotes short more classic Nintendo like levels to be discovered. I made the entire Super Mario Bros 3 game within Super Mario Maker 2 to see how Nintendo's own levels would do in the system as well as enabling 4 player multiplayer for the game.

The levels didn't do too bad in terms of likes but considering they are levels from one of the best games ever made I would think they would have gotten more traction. I wasn't able to get all of the levels in my Super World H1R-X6F-NRF and that along with the lack of spread for my levels dampened my desire to create a world 9 to fill out my course limit of 100 courses.

@UltM No one should be complaining about all the bad levels in SMM 2 when levels like yours and Incarta's are available to play! Thanks for uploading such fun and creative levels : )

Here's a random level I played recently that is nicely done: 8LP 9Q1 6MF 18% clear rate, good platforming, well designed, has checkpoints

Another great level with good puzzles, short cut scenes, and fun gameplay:

It took me 6 or 7 minutes to beat it, and was fun!

I'm mad at Nintendo for bilking its fans with this perfunctory SMB2 shroom and no other style. They took away our Ninji stars and didn't even give us the ninji character for all styles. Nintendo knows how to ruin some of their extremely popular franchises: it's money, money, money for them. Quantity over quality. And yes, I am still building courses (100+) and I will be for the long haul. It's completely lamentable to look at the dearth of semisolids, say, in 3DW and think you can proudly walk away from this game. Nintendo acts shamefully sometimes. It dispirits me and many others.

@60frames-please Thanks for checking out my levels! I started playing through Incarta's levels and the other 2 you recommended. Definitely some quality courses that deserved more attention than they received (I gave them likes/hearts).

I agree with @Shadownin64 on how levels are discovered. It's just not good enough for traditional levels to get traction/exposure.

Endless Challenge encourages short/easy levels as, players care more about winning fast to increase their high score.

Most players will only bother to look for courses in the popular courses tab and... short/refreshing/kaizo/music/troll levels get all the attention. Detailed search can help to find specific levels but, what about searching by level name? No Mario Maker 2 bookmark site to get around entering level codes?

As for the lack of updates... I'm guessing they cut it short in favor of developing Mario Maker 3 in the future.

@UltM Yeah, no problem, it was fun playing your levels. Yeah, I wish it was easy to search for simply platforming levels that aren't super difficult.
That would be the best reason for no new styles introduced to Super Mario Maker 2 — I'm already excited for the 3rd installment of this awesome series!
