UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 22nd May, revealing that Miitopia is off to a great start.
Nintendo's quirky RPG has debuted in second place, only being outsold by Capcom's multi-platform Resident Evil Village this week. It also managed to outperform Mass Effect: Legendary Edition to get there; EA's trilogy is currently in its second week on sale.
Elsewhere, New Pokémon Snap has maintained last week's tenth position, rounding out a top ten which features no fewer than six Switch exclusives.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

outsold mass effect.... huge!
Miitopia Is addictive
I love that RE Village is still on top! It deserves it
Miitopia and New Pokémon Snap have sold better than I ever expected, it's hard to believe this is the UK charts!
-we usually have terrible taste, at least in sales figures
Genuinely shocked at that, Mittopia doesn't feel like it has much hype around it.
That's surprisingly high for a relatively low profile release. I didn't even notice that it was out.
great news for miitopia. no it is not breath of the wild. but because of the mii maker. i could see this game sell like ring fit adventure. it may not do block buster numbers. but this could sell for a long time to come.
@Kimyonaakuma I was thinking it was starting to look a bit like the Japanese charts, but hey GTA V is back in the top 10 😆
@Rob3008 my offspring picked up on it and ask me to download the demo. I think having a pre release demo helped build up hype in the playgrounds
Miitopia continues to surprise me with its sales. It currently the best selling game on amazon US and also at the top of the eshop. I'm guessing the demo helped once social media began sharing all the ridiculous things you can make with the new mii editor.
It’s riding high on the eShop, even on preorders alone last week, so I’m not too surprised. By the way anyone having trouble with the eShop? I was trying to buy Ori last night and it wouldn’t let me use my saved card, nor any other.
@Peteykins it doesn't appeal to me for that reason. I can't see it being remembered as one of Nintendo's all-time classics, and am still surprised it was chosen for a remake/remaster (whatever) over other more deserving 3DS titles.
Glad for Miitopia, but I hope this doesn’t mean more 3ds ports. It probably will tho. Let’s focus on new material!
@JohnnyC I don’t think it’s fair to say miitopia was undeserving of a second chance considering it was sent out to die on the 3ds after the switch launched but that’s just opinions I guess
I'm glad that Miitopia is doing so well. It's still hard to believe that a silly Mii-based RPG released during the 3DS's death throes got a full Switch port.
@Dizzymario Agreed, I'm not saying it's a bad game, I just think there are better games that would benefit more from an upgrade. Mario Kart 8 was Nintendo's first choice from the Wii U catalogue for a fresh coat of paint on the Switch and that sold decent numbers on its initial release.
@AmplifyMJ I have been having an issue with my cards on on eshop for months now, asks me to contact my bank who tell me its all fine and it does work elsewhere with no issue. From what I can gather it is something behind the scenes with Nintendo and anti fraud/data security measures. Play Asia sell eshop cards and deliver instantly over email should you not be able to sort it out.
@rockodoodle I'll take ports of 3ds games I've never played any day. They're a big company, got room for ports and originals all day.
Great result for Miitopia I wasn’t expecting it that high.
No Fifa? Hurray!
Welcome back GTA V. Feels like you never left.
Many people were just excited for that Resident Evil game, they forgot Nintendo and Sega existed.
Edit: Just a joke. Also, Tomodatchi for Switch when?
That’s great. Enjoyed it on the 3DS. Now bring back Miitomo!
@andjahiam the problem I have with ports to the Switch is that Nintendo seems to be releasing these almost in lieu of producing new content. At least give me a reason to buy like Bowser’s fury
@AmplifyMJ
Happens regularly. Many times, it's rejected every one of my cards, and I've ended up buying a digital voucher from Amazon.
It's still hard to believe that a silly Mii-based RPG released during the 3DS's death throes got a full Switch port.
@ObeseChihuahua2 If I can believe what I've read recently, Miitopia is probably a favourite of Miyamoto-san. That could explain a great deal.
I feel that because the demo gave people the FULL Mii maker and how rebust it is compared to older games; including the 3DS original, the word of mouth from all the stuff they were able to do with the new Mii maker helped the game sell much more than if there was no demo. It appeals to the creative and the memers. Keep in mind that Miitopia was released kind of late in the 3DS lifecycle. Not as late as Yokai Watch 3 or Persona Q2, but it was at the time where most people where ready to know what the heck the NX was. As for Tomodachi Life, I can see that getting a sequel than a remake. (Actually, Tomodachi Life was itself a sequel to a Japanese only DS release, so a third game wouldn't be too out of the question, considering how well Miitopia is doing.)
A big RIP for the Russian kids who can't get this game because Papa Putin said "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!"
Mii brand still relevant enough to do decent business.
Just remake CHIBI ROBO!!!
I think we're going to see how far creativity can help push a game along. Miitopa's a solid RPG on its own, but the character creator gives so much potential to party customization. Just the jokes alone are hilarious because of how random they can get. Glad its getting a second shot, and that the Miis are sticking around.
Hoping that we get a few more ports/sequels from the 3DS. Dillon's Rolling Western worked its way into a trilogy and even got a physical release every except for the states, I think it deserves a shot if they can work the game without the 2nd screen.
Ever Oasis also deserves its own fair shot since it came out right when the 3DS was being fazed out. Grezzo's still around, and they've done Switch work, so an HD port is feasible, it's just down to Nintendo and some devs to show interest.
@Pacmanrace A remake or sequel will never happen because NINTENDO THEMSELVES do not agree with same-sex relations which is not allowed in the game.
@NatiaAdamo A remake or sequel will never happen because NINTENDO THEMSELVES do not agree with same-sex relations which is not allowed in the game.
@Andrew5678 Glad to know someone else likes 'Ever Oasis'.
However, they'd need to update the 'change team' as going to a dungeon and then finding out you had the wrong team member and then going back was annoying.
❗I'm glad for 'Miitopia'.
I'm even playing it now as I type.
I've re-created my Miis from the 3DS version and re-put them into my Switch Game.
I HOPE they release DLC for it the Switch version.
⚠️EDIT: Hold B to speed up the battle and travel time.
I am actually not that surprised, it really is a fun game with fun mechanics and i feel it is an unique game.
There is not one game that mimics this gameplay.
I am more surprised that no other developer ever tried to make a game like this with the same or more complex mechanics.
My daughter was a fan when she was 8 or 9 and she is a fan now when she is 14.
At 8 or 9 years old it is family that are the Mii's, now the Mii's are Anime characters.
For all ages it is just a cute easy fun to paly game.
It could be a big cashcow For Nintendo.
Miitopia is one heck of an JRPG.
It's fun, charming and has a really intriguing battle system. I highly recommend the game. Awesome franchise in the making everyone.
'Full-Price Port' used to be a joke. Now they are trying to charge more!
This game cost less on 3DS and I think Skyward Sword cost less on Wii.
My son played and loved both games but at these prices, no thanks.
@Deppasois
Nintendo has said that they intend to be more inclusive with future Tomodachi Life games.

@bluemage1989 @SpringDivorce thanks for your replies good to know it’s not just me. Last thing I bought using my cards was either DOOM Eternal for myself or New Pokémon Snap for my son, both very recently, and had no problem. Last night though I couldn’t make a purchase. Thanks again!
Miitopia on Switch UK launch sales were in the 6,000-7,000 unit range.
Not a big launch, but this is the type of game that should have strong legs relative to it's launch sales in the weeks and months to come.
I'd also expect this game to have a similar digital attach rate to Animal Crossing (40-50%).
So, what's different this time? I remember almost nobody wanted to give the 3DS original game a chance for whatever reason (mostly for being on 3DS).
Whatever the case, I'm glad my potential favorite 3DS game has another chance, which hopefully leads to Miitoopia or Tomodachi Life 3.
My Switch playthrough will have the same Miis as in my 3DS one, except for them wearing masks to emphasize the circumstances in which I'm playing the Switch one.
Anyway. Good job. UK! You recovered your dignity and FIFA is nowhere to be found on the top 10.
@HammerGalladeBro You already said half of it. It came out on 3DS in December 2016, only a few months of life left on the system. The other half is the amazing new mii system. That's it. That's both ingredients.
...plus there is certainly one weirdo somewhere who bought it this time because they added a horse.
@COVIDberry Makes sense.
Glad it’s doing well. Not interested myself but would like to see more 3DS ports on Switch
Kind of disappointing this sold so well. Nintendo will take it as a sign to port more DS games with a hyper inflated price tag instead of putting effort into new content.
Hopefully they have something good to show at E3 apart from ports and sequels - Where's the Nintendo ingenuity gone?
@COVIDberry Where did you hear that? Always understood Miyamoto wasn't a great fan of RPGs...
@Clyde_Radcliffe Nintendo just ran a feature mentioning this:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/05/feature_from_famicom_disk_system_to_switch_-_the_evolution_of_nintendos_miis
@westman98 Firstly, the article's sub-headline reads:
"The video game company hints that it MAY allow for gay relationships in future versions of “Tomodachi Life.""
Secondly, Nintendo of America, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan-based Nintendo Co., released the following statement:
"We pledge that IF we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players.”
To me, this all sounds like Nintendo DON'T want to make a new Game in the series.
I have a feeling that they will always make an excuse as to why a remake/sequel has not been released.
@Deppasois
A Tomodachi Life sequel wasn't announced in 2014 when Nintendo made that statement (and it still hasn't been announced to this day), so of course Nintendo needs to speak in hypothetical terms, hence their use of the word "if".
Let's not imply that Nintendo is secretly homophobic.
@westman98 I wasn't implying that but if the Nintendo higher-ups have what we British🇬🇧 call 'traditional views', they won't include all people as they say they will.
