Subnautica & Subnautica: Below Zero - 14th May
Exploratory underwater survival adventure Subnautica is coming to Switch next year along with its sequel Subnautica: Below Zero. This well-received pair has been available on other platforms for years (Below Zero in Early Access form), but developer Unknown Worlds has been working hard on the Switch versions — check out our interview to find out more.
Miitopia - 21st May
A surprise announcement from the Nintendo Direct back in February, Miitopia might not be the 3DS remaster we'd have chosen from that system's sterling catalogue, but it was a charming little Mii-fueled RPG that we enjoyed back in 2017, and that's despite having our heads turned by the new Nintendo console on the block at the time.
We're intrigued to see how Grezzo's Switch version will hold up against the library of quality RPGs on Switch.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster - 25th May
Atlus brings this classic PS2-era RPG to Switch in remastered form at the end of May.
What about SMTIIINHDR (as all the cool kids are calling it) is remastered, exactly? Well, the 3D models and backgrounds have been spruced up for this release (which comes eighteen years after the original), and there'll be new voice work and additional difficulty levels, too — plus the ability to suspend play at any time and resume whenever is convenient. That last point may not sound essential, but it's a godsend if you're playing on the bus and your Switch is about to die. We're looking forward to this one.
Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection - 10th June
Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection brings together the trilogy of 3D hack-and-slash games from Team Ninja in one deadly little package on Switch. You'll get to unleash torrents of stylish ultraviolence in the shoes of celebrated ninja, Ryu Hayabusa and relive some of the 360/PS3 era's greatest action games on a console you can fit in your pocket.
If you've got large pockets, that is. Still, more comfortable to have a Switch than a launch PS3 wedged about your person, no?
Mario Golf: Super Rush - 25th June
Revealed in the February 2021 Nintendo Direct, this is the long-awaited return to the fairways for the Mushroom Kingdom's finest. Mario Golf: Super Rush is set to feature RPG elements along the lines of the celebrated Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color, plus an entirely new spin on the game in the titular Super Rush mode, which has multiple players racing around the course in Nintendo's take on 'speed golf'.
It looks manic and hilarious if the trailer is anything to go by, and we can't wait to get into the swing of things. We love a good walk spoiled, so we'll be grabbing a 3-wood and hitting the fairways soon.
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games
Aside from the highlighted games above, there are lots more Switch retail games which might take your fancy in May and beyond.
Awesome Accessories For Your Switch
And finally here are a selection of the finest Switch accessories coming up in May and beyond, for your consideration.
So that's it for May and June - did we miss anything? Let us know with a comment and also tell us if you've pre-ordered any of these goodies!

Instant Sport Tennis ! 😆
Geminose: Animal Popstars ! 😀
Dreamwork Spirit Lucky's Big Adventure ! 😀
The Switch games i want to buy.
Oh I forgot about worlds end club, I'm so going for that this year.
Better get your copy of SMTIII quick before it does what Atlus games do. That is, it will become excessively expensive a few years from now. Search eBay for Atlus 3DS games if you don't believe me. I'm still kicking myself for trading in my copy of SMT: Devil Summoner Soul Hackers at friggin Gamestop.
Nice, look at all that shovelware. Makes me nostalgic about the Wii's final years. 😁
Shovelware and ports forever now. Sad.
SMT, world ends with you, GAA, monster hunter and Zelda will be my main focus since I am buying less games until Black Friday but I have another 20 or so on my list. Gotta budget wisely here.
Wow I have little to no interest in most of these games and the ones I do are rereleases of old games. The switch seems to be in a rut lately. Is it just me?
I'm having trouble caring about anything releasing these next two months. This is fine by me, as July has 3 huge games I am very much excited for (World Ends With You, Skyward Sword, Ys 9)
That said, if I do finish my backlog (which is only three games deep!) I think I will try and give Ni No Kuni a chance!
@Darlinfan
"Pretending the Switch has the same problem the Wii did is asinine" You're right, the Wii at least had fantastic run (hell, I might admit that it was the best modern Nintendo console they released). The Switch can't even get past the third hurdle and literally needs crutches in the form of rereleases to stay relevant...
What a list, there are some surefire "gets" in there for me. Be still my wallet...
@ImBackBB
There is always games targeted for casual gamers. Of course they are not AAA games but who cares. Not everyone has interest with AAA games.
The casual games are perfect for gamer like me and other peoples for short burst session. Some peoples like to play kind of these games. Be granted if Nintendo Switch has a lot of diversity in games genre. More choices merrier even if you don't like casual games. I think the casual games from the list above were really great. I will consider some of them.
the subnautica double pack looks cool but how will it run is the question
@Darlinfan
Okay, I admit that it was assholish of me to call you out like that and I apologize. It's just I'm tired of seeing people licking Nintendo's boots when they don't deserve it.
And please don't use lines like "I molested you during childhood" 😬
I thought Style Savvy: Fashion Famous was coming out on switch in June? Anyone have any info on that?
@Kiyata
What ? 😲
Style Savvy Fashion Famous ?
(Searching from Google)
https://fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Style_Savvy:_Fashion_Famous
NO WAY....!!! 🤯🤯🤯
New Style Savvy on Nintendo Switch !!! 😃😃😃
Thank you so much for the information. 😄
@Darlinfan
Sorry, no can do. I will call people out if they're blindly kissing Nintendo's fecal matter. I mean do you really want people to keep telling Nintendo what they are doing (rereleases, unjustifiable lawsuits/cease & desists, over prices, and general disappointment) is okay or even great? It seems as though ever since the Wii era the fanbase has become as submissive as the Apple fanbase, just full of Yes Men for Nintendo.
@Darlinfan
Okay then, will do. I'll leave alone with your Shigeru cardboard cutout and a copy Wii Music, while you think of yourself molesting me as a child~ 😙
@Darlinfan
I don't have to answer to hypocrites~ 🙈🙉🙊
Btw, i hope Clive N Wrench will get exact release date after got delayed for several times.
This place ain't fun no more.
On a lighter note...
I'm looking forward to some of these! Been waiting on Mario golf for a long time, and I never played Skyward Sword so I'll be getting that! Then hopefully a Zelda35 announcement or two comes in there as well!
SMT 3 and The Great Ace Attorney for me. Can’t wait for SMT V.
@Darlinfan
Your hypocrisy is shining so bright, dude. It's literally giving everyone in a 50 mile radius radiation poisoning~ 😎
@k8sMum
I know, right ?
@Darlinfan
Only because you say you're not a fanboy doesn't make it any less so. That's for others to decide, not yourself. Hypocrisy is still hypocrisy, you dingus.
And you're a literal fanboy hypocrite~
Wow, LOL. 😆
Pocoyo Party bundles will be released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch with Pocoyo figurine inside.
Not bad for a casual game for kids. 👍
@k8sMum
I'm having a blast~ 😁
@Darlinfan
If i remembered, Pocoyo was an educational tv program for kids, somewhat like Disney Junior or Nickelodeon Junior.
Their games debut was from Wii and NDS era. There was a puzzle game, racing game from Pocoyo on Wii and NDS. Now, there is a Pocoyo game on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in HD quality. 😄
This may be controversial, but the switch's first party lineup in the first half of 2020 was far better than this year.
I wasn't going to get Miitopia, but after playing the demo that's on the Switch, I am almost completely sold on it. It's a really fun concept and game.
And ofcourse Mario golf.
I’m excited for Smt 3, Mario golf, skyward sword, and stories 2. There’s been a game a month coming out that I’ve wanted so can’t complain, except July with both SS and stories 2. If I start buying a bunch of 80 dollar games in a month I start to feel ridiculous. Collector in me does want the blasphemous and hotline Miami physicals tho.
@Anti-Matter ha, you’re so welcome! 😁 I just hope it really comes out in June, I’m so excited to get that game!
waiting for sub Nautica, from the videos i have seen and the dev interview they are making a good job with the porting
I really hope people won’t buy miitopia at launch cause the message to Nintendo it will only show it’s ok to do barebones ports and sell them at a high price. Wait that’s exactly the Wii U ports we got for years now ...
@Anti-Matter That’s the Fanon wiki, for ideas of things people want. It’s not actually coming out. It could someday, but it’s not a real game for now.
Super excited about Mario Golf.....
@Duboiss it is hard for me to get a gauge on this. The overlap of 3ds owners and Switch owners is far greater than WiiU. But then Nintendo has been so dry that it might end up doing pretty well for those who missed it.
But I agree with in in the sense that I don’t want 3ds ports on the Switch, especially since they all but view it as new content. I wasn’t interested in either the Ps5 or the series x, but if Nintendo keeps this up, I will be.
Seems like a load of shovelware, with a few interesting games releasing along the line.
@Deepdoop No doubt. This is weird to say but for once in the switch's lifespan nintendo seems to be taking a nap while third parties are finally stepping up to bat. Third party we've already gotten bravely default, ghost n goblins, and monster hunter. But pretty soon we're getting smt 3 and 5, disgaea 6, monhun stories 2, world ends with you, ys, ace attorney, no more heroes 3, rune factory and I'm sure a few others I forgot. Thats a lot of third party with a healthy dose of exclusives, console exclusives, and multiplat.
Possibly Mario Golf for me. Gotta try Miitopia still before I decide on that, but gosh how I wish Sports Story was in this article. I remember “releasing summer 2020...” The Switch line-up in 2021 is arguably the least exciting year in the console’s lifespan, in my opinion.
Ports, stale indies (my opinion, no offense to people excited about any of them), shovelware, etc. Hoping we get something a little bit more exciting announced at E3. Wish we saw more of Nintendo’s original IPs. I’m not asking for BotW2 or Metroid Prime 4, per we, but where’s the Yoshi’s Crafted World tier titles? Donkey Kong, Kirby, etc. Feels like the best games last year on the console were ports of old games. I mean, I love replaying Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Pikmin 3, but I sort of expect new entries for Nintendo IPs.
@somnambulance Animal Crossing aside,maybe Pokémon, it has been depressing. Golf will be great, I am sure. They really need to announce something at E3 to salvage this year. This is worse than 2016.
Just got New Pokemon Snap, and am looking forward to Famicom Detective Club, Asha in Monster World, Mario Golf, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Skyward Sword HD, & Mon Hun Stories 2 in the coming weeks & months.
I'll admit that Nintendo needs to announce some big first party bombs for the later half of the year, but if you can't find anything to play in the coming months I can't help but think that's partially your own fault (not directed at anyone in particular, just general sentiment I'm seeing).
Miitopia, Mario Golf SR, SMT III
Reviews required: Ninja Gaiden MC, the Subnatica games, World End Club
(I have a number of the July releases mentioned that I want including Skyward Sword)
I was not expecting to be charmed by Miitopia but the demo and especially the Mii editor have convinced me otherwise.
@rockodoodle I mean, I’d be into Famicom Detective Club if it was $15 too, but c’mon Animal Crossing was the last big release and that was over a year ago
@Zeldafan79 You are correct--what's in a rut is just you.
@somnambulance @rockodoodle Monster Hunter says hello.
@JimmySpades @rockodoodle Monster Hunter’s not a Nintendo IP though (and granted I’m not a fan of Monster Hunter, so that probably affects my opinion on the year, seeing as how it’s the lone new Switch blockbuster in 2021, unless we count Bowser’s Fury, which is a great add on to a great game, but not enough to be its own game).
Next Nintendo IP release for all we know is Splatoon 3. There’s plenty of franchises for Nintendo to tap. Give me Warioware, Star Fox, Chibi Robo, heck Nintendogs, a new entry somewhere. Doesn’t matter if it’s an entry I want personally, just a new entry to show they’re not just laying back on ports (and if they’re laying back on ports, just do a Mother compilation already).
Dear Nintendolife, July is a separate month after May and June so either change the title of the article or remove the only decent game (only my opinion) due for release in the next three months, many thanks!
I tried the Miitopia demo, had no expectations, but it seems like fun, dialogue and narrative-wise. The combat and explorations seem very limited though. Might play through the demo and make a decision, but that won't be an instant purchase.
Also I thought I would be the only one thinking that these games don't cover the bases, but I'm not. Quite samey games, some of these. (Samey as in, whatever has released before, not just during these two months.)
The real hits these next two months are Pocoyo Party and DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power.
it is funny how people always talking the switch always have more ports and rereleases coming than new games. Well so what! There are more than 80 million that bought the switch, and I bet not all of them have played the ports or older versions of some games. So get over it, let those people who never played have a chance to experience it on one of the best systems this generation. As for me, Nintendo and other companies, keep bringing the games: ports, new, rereleases and otherwise.
@ekwcll @somnambulance @JimmySpades generally I am happy with the Switch. It’s Nintendo not really producing much over the last 18 months. I don’t have an issue with ports as long as they produce new content also and they have almost to the point of embarrassment not produced much fresh content AT. ALL.
I really want Miitopia, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, and NEO: The World Ends with You. I also really want the Famicom Detective Club games, but I'm probably gonna have to wait on those, as much as I want to support them being released in English.
I'm getting Blaster Master Zero 3 day one too, but I'll just get it digitally, not in the physical trilogy.
@rockodoodle Agree with that. 2017-2019, I was on a buying frenzy with my Switch. Love the console, might be my favorite console ever, but I can’t help feeling like Nintendo is deliberately allowing the other consoles to catch up. As of right now, I’ve got no preorders on my Switch. First time this has happened. I’ve got six on PS5, and that’s a console with a light release schedule.
