honestly for this game being less packed compared to new leaf, its still squeezing nearly 600 hours of enjoyment from me. im still occupying my time with it and its definitely a game i needed this year. also its neat that AC and doom eternal get to cross paths again haha
It's gonna win
with the winter update coming tomorrow cant wait.
GoT for real though
Want Hades to win but Animal Crossing makes the most sense in that list, there hasn't been something like this that's reach both gamers and non gamers alike for a while.
Last of us 2 is a technical marvel with uneven storytelling.
Ghost of Tsushima is great but is just a really pretty action adventure game, despite vocal Sony fans calling it the second coming.
And FF7 remake is, well, FF7 remake.
If Animal Crossing wins it'll annoy alot of 'hardcore' gamers, and that's good, most could use a kick in the teeth.
I think it will get GotY. If 2020 was a normal year I think the winner would've been TLoU2, Ghost of Tsushima or Cyberpunk 2077 (if in a normal year Cyberpunk 2077 released by the deadline) but given the circumstances of 2020, Animal Crossing seems more fitting for GotY.
Hmm. I would like Hades to win. The other games aside from Animal Crossing aren’t that interesting.
I can already picture the meltdowns and rage if ACNH beats out 2 Sony 1st parties. 😁
I mean, ACNH was the biggest game of the year. Nothing before or after it came anywhere close. However, knowing people, I think they'll go for TLOU2.
I wouldn't be surprised if New Horizons won. A lot of people will be voting for that game I'm sure. I personally don't think it's better than some of the other games up for the running.
You would have to make a very very strong argument that another game this year did better and was better received by more people. And I would still disagree.
Doesn't feel like a GOTY game imo. It just sold well.
I'm rooting for Doom Eternal and Final Fantasy 7 Remake
I love animal crossing but it’s not GOTY material. I’ve played all the other games and I wholeheartedly feel this award is deserved by none other than The Last Of Us 2. I laughed, I cried, I felt excitement, I felt suspense, and the final 30 minutes of the game had me in tears. I’ve never wanted to lose so badly to the final boss. I’ve never felt so emotionally wrecked and battered by any game after it was all over.
I’m a Nintendo guy, always will be- but last of us 2 is gaming at its finest! I want more!
No chance TLOU2 won't win this.
@westman98 I’m totally ok with this.
Animal Crossing all the way. Excellent game design from end to end. Truly the crispest and most pleasing UX design I've experienced in years, and every aspect of the game boasts incredible polish.
I want to say Hades since it's a little fresher than AC, but ACNH is not only the perfect video game for 2020, it's easily in a top 5 media experiences for 2020
@Tendogamerxxx
I'm fine with any of the nominated games winning as they are all really good.
ACNH came out piecemeal, with previous games' base content being added after the fact. Free, albeit, unlike SwSh, but that shouldn't be encouraged either, IMO. Give it to Hades or Doom Eternal. 7 Remake was too formulaic, ends on some strange notes (both in terms of story and gameplay), and introduced Kingdom Hearts-like designs that REALLY don't belong.
It's rare for a game to have such wide appeal as Animal Crossing, and that should count for something. Hades is a true gem and will get my vote, but ACNH is pretty special and I can't imagine it doesn't win when it's exactly what the world needed exactly when it needed it.
I voted for ACNH, myself. I'm still loving the game now.
I really enjoyed Animal Crossing (and certainly wouldn't be disappointed if it won), but FFVIIR is definitely my GotY.
The fact that P5R--which is an updated expansion of a game that's already on PS4 is being nominated for best RPG (when base P5 was already nominated once before) but not Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, (which is a complete, full-scale remaster with new music and completely redone environments) is a crime.
That, and all of the other PS-exclusives getting loads of nominations really shows the bias towards Sony.
Not a huge Animal Crossing guy, but considering how well it sold and the cultural impact it had in the age of COVID (you even have Members of Congress playing it), it absolutely should be Game of the Year.
Rooting for Hades. ACNH feels like the game that defined this year but it doesn't push the envelope in a way a GoTY should. I could say the same for Sony's offerings; GoT kind of feels like another generic AAA action/adventure game and while TLoU was a technical marvel with a great story... it just felt like a compelling television script inserted into a video game. I get the impression Naughty dog doesnt understands how to utilize the medium of video games to tell a story that is unique to video games and instead just borrows what it knows from film/television.
I prayed for ACNH to be chosen as GOTY.
Animal Crossing is great and I've sunk 700 hours into it but I think Hades would be the most deserved winner if we're judging purely on game quality rather than popularity.
I love Animal Crossing and have played every mainline game in the series but New Horizons isn't game of the year material. Perhaps if it launched with all of the features New Leaf had and expanded on them through updates and added new ones it would get my vote but it's still playing catch up with it's predecessor.
It sold well but its far from the best game I've played this year, I don't think its any better than previous entries to be honest and at launch was pretty bare bones
I have the dreadful feeling that they will choose TLOU2.
If that is the case the GOTY will become the "new" OSCARS.
Still I hope ACNH wins.
Don't think it will win in the GotY category, but it will probably win the best family game award.
Hades being nominated is cool! Haven't played it yet, but it seems that many view it as their favorite game this year.
I've played animal crossing for 200+ hours, but it's got a lot of flaws. I don't think it deserves game of the year.
FFVII Remake gets my vote. By far the best game I've played this year.
Personally I’d pick ghost of tsushima but AC is a great entry that came along at the perfect time...
AC has a lot of issues stopping it from being GotY (the way Nintendo handled saves and forced people to share an island for example) but it is fully deserving of best family game
I suspect it will likely come down to AC NH, TLOU P2 and FF7 remake. Still think AC Will win family game this year hands down
Based on sales. Probably does deserve GOTY
We're gonna get the usual consolation prize treatment known as "family game of the year".
@JR150 100% agree with you on this one. Heck, maybe FF7 Remake or P5R would deserve to win (haven't played those), but not putting XB DE (great game) along on the list is pure bias.
I've played very few of any catagory nominees and none of the game of the year nominees. Think I'm gaming wrong.
Only catagory I could really give an opinion on is Best Sports which I would hands down give to F1 20.
Also hoping Mario Kart Live gets an award too. Love that thing.
Animal Crossing New Horizons should definitely win, if only because of its impact beyond the gaming world. And, of course because it is such a good game!
Although New Horizons looks beautiful and has been so well received by critics and fans alike, I‘ve still not played this or any other Animal Crossing game!
[HELP WANTED] Am I a fool and missing out.. or at 47, am I simply too long in the tooth for the series? Genuinely, what do you guys think?
Not gonna happen. Nintendo is kind of a joke to the hardcores and opinions on ACNH have cooled off significantly.
I think there is a chance for sure
I loved New Horizons but voted for Hades for GOTY. Both were great but Hades holds a special place in my heart now. That feeling I got when I beat the final boss for the first time will stay with me forever. It’s the only game I’ve beaten 10 times in a row just to see what would happen lol
@Bmartin001 I really hope so- the dev team could use some extra sales to put out more updates
New Horizons is by far my most played game in 2020. I'm over 300-hours by this point which surpasses my previous most played game on the Switch which was Diablo 3 at just under 300-hours.
Bruh It would be a crime if Doom's theme didn't play before or after Animal Crossing's. Just for the Doom Guy and Isabelle memes to be real!
Just going over the list shows how poor the Switch library was this year. Basically Animal Crossing (Should definitely win Best family game)
There is not even a single RPG playable on the Switch.
There's a lot of hate for TLOUS 2. I got TLOUS 2 didn't get Animal Crossing having said that i voted Animal Crossing for the Goty TLOUS 2 Is good but depressing also.
Not my GOTY.
Oddly enough, I don't have a GOTY.
GOTY should go to either AC or TLOU2.
Nothing else comes close.
As much as I personally didn't enjoy AC:NH (bought it EAGERLY during lockdown and yet nobody in the family played it for more than a couple weeks) I think it easily deserves GOTY.
