With the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U rapidly approaching, we can expect plenty of information and reveals in the coming weeks; Masahiro Sakurai has raised hopes of another Nintendo Direct, stating that an announcement is coming to reveal the game's "true potential".
The game designer is still posting daily on Miiverse, of course, with snippets of new features being shown off. The latest post, below, shows off some new trophies — Zael from The Last Story and Fatal Frame characters — and outlines a new Photo Studio mode [Update: actually it's not 'new', we forgot it featured in Brawl], in which you can post trophies for humorous results.
We suspect Miiverse will be flooded with witty creations when the game launches, and this looks like a more durable and flexible alternative to the screen capture / gallery equivalent in the 3DS version.
Are you looking forward to experimenting with this in Smash Bros. for Wii U? Let us know.

Oh, I will be using this quite a lot!
This will be hilarious!
This isn't new, the exact same feature was in Brawl and it is returning.
Yeah!
@RupeeClock Fair enough, I forgot!
Now maybe Nintendo could like… publish the Wii/WiiU Project Zero/FatalFrame games for Western Territories, since they do seem to be heavily involved in the series these days and Koei Tecmo themselves are so unwilling to commit to the series themselves outside of Japan, and the WiiU could do with more exclusives in general in the West?
As I was pretty disappointed that IV never saw a release in the end. I even had a preorder for the game on ShopTo…
@ThomasBW84 It is a pretty nice feature. I'm still fond of the DS Lite easter egg that was on the one stage you could use.
It'll be great! I doubt that this feature (or the Stage Builder) will be anything similar to the limited user interface that Brawl had. The Gamepad is so much more well suited for these kind of editing tasks.
I'm sure this'll be funny
Now I'm hungry.
From that pic it looks like the sun is coming from behind but the shadows are all messed up. :/
I'm happy to se some TLS representation in Smash! Now i'm hoping for some Pandora's Tower. Also, is that a Fatal Frame trophy? Does Nintendo own the rights to those specific characters or is it some kind of third party trophy?
@xilef It's got to happen! It was a second party game after all I think Nintendo co owns the series and has the rights to Fatal Frame 2, 4 and all future installments.
Glad to see these two franchises made it into the game. I never actually got a copy of the Last Story so I would happily buy a Wii U version if it happened, and like many others I am hoping to get some international love for Black Haired Shrine Maiden.
There'll also be a forum here on NLife where we share hilarious products for the eye...
The hype is increasing like crazy.
Trickle, drip, drop...
Come on Nintendo open the floodgates and let it pour already, the 3DS has sold well enough. Its just 5 weeks from today. FIVE WEEKS. What are you wsiting for?!?!
Just getting me more hyped. I really wish the 3ds version had more of these cool features. (Yeah I know this one was in Brawl).
@rjejr i believe my friend they might be waiting for Bayonetta 2 to release so the SSB hype won't overshadow it. at least that's my opinion but im also waiting for my amiibo Direct so……kinda reminds me of the 3D World trailer that showed so much of the game that enticed so many non-believers 2 weeks before its release...
C'mon Zael! You know how to use a sword but don't know how to use a spoon?
This looks much better now without the trophy bases.
Miiverse is going to get a whole lot interesting.
Wow this actually could give people hope that Fatal Frame could be a playable representation in the next game.(even though it's content is worser than Metal Gear)
@WanderingPB Yeah, Nintendo can't really afford to burn any more bridges with 3rd parties. Giving huge Smash info would completely destroy Bayonetta 2 sales hence it would be wise not to announce any huge new features until early November.
cute, and confusing,
@Grumblevolcano - et tu? B2 is barely 3rd party, Nintendo basically paid for it. And they are very different games. But the biggest most important difference, SSB U is THE game that will sell Wii U this Christmas, B2 should if Nintendo pushed it, but they aren't. Which segues nicely into...
@WanderingPB - They can't overshadow the B2 hype b/c there isn't any. Was looking around Target and Gamestop for any sign of the game and while it is the #2 tile on the Wii U Gamepad it doesn't exist anywhere else in either store. No pre-order cards, no signs, no billboards. If they were advertising it I'ld agree with you, but while I see signs for Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad and of course SSB for 3DS everywhere B2 is invisible.
And no sign at all of the amiibo either, sorry. While I can understand an M rated game not getting a lot of real estate, amiibo really need(s?) to be out there w/ all the Skyanders and DI competition. I swear, it's like Nintedo can't comprehend putting "Coming Soon" on an ad. "amiibo coming soon Nov 21 all your favorite Nintendo characters will soon be yours!" Just popped that out, I'ld think an actual marketing dept could do better.
Yeah, I remember that Nov 13 vid, but that game was getting a lot more exposure between E3 and it's release than the Wii U version for Smash is getting.
There was E3 coverage, then the Aug trailer, then the Oct 1 ND. And of course those cute little commercials, and then that vid. Today is Oct 17 and all we've seen are the amiibo at E3 so they're a tad bit behind schedule
Aya deserves another view though:

Ohh this is going to be good.
@rjejr Platinum are still making it though, if Bayonetta 2 fails then they may not want to support Nintendo anymore. As for Amiibo, GAME seems to be promoting it significantly, at my local stores at least though not at all for other shops.
@rjejr well, Bayonetta 2 is one of the best selling games on Amazon.com. It was actually the highest following a few PS cards and it's consistently in the top 10. It also has TV ads.
@Grumblevolcano - "GAME seems to be promoting it significantly"
Well that's certainly good news. Maybe I need to find different places to shop?
Meh
@dumedum - That top 100 "games" list is filled w/ cards and controllers, that's just weird. And what's up w/ South Park it came out in March? Price drop I guess?
It was good and shocking to see B2 at #1 on the Wii U list though. I can only imagine how good it would sell if they advertised it
Back on topic, I still don't see how having an ND last week or this week showcasing SSB U was going to hurt B2 sales any. Different games and they come out 4 weeks apart. And there's no law against advertising 2 games at once. Ubisoft Montreal has both AC Unity and Far Cry 4 and they release a week apart and those 2 games are far more similar than SSBU and B2.
Awesome!!
nothing like looking at fatal frame trophies and not being able to play the new one
OMG ZAEL!
@rjejr there's no hype for Bayonetta 2???? LMAO!!! my dear friend allow me to put this in a better perspective…YOU may not hyped for Bayonetta 2 but after the Bayo2 Nintendo Direct and the recent highly praised reviews its currently sitting on number 1 for WiiU game preorders on Amazon so the hype is there…but it would also be unrealistic to assume that Bayo2 would get any mario kart or SSB hype or advertisement unfortunately. The original Bayonetta sold a little over a million units even though the PS3/X360 had a combined install base of over 160 million…so this beautifully crafted GEM niche title was never meant to be a blockbuster hit but probably meant to add to the unique Quality game library of exclusives that u only get on the WiiU. people always complain and say 1 game aint worth buying a console so now the WiiU library is no joke and is only getting better which will make a reasonable logical consumer give the WiiU a shot…XB1 is looking alot better to me than PS4 but Scalebound has made me biased LOL! in fact ive seen tv commercials for Bayo2 in the evenings on Comedy central and Adult Swim so they're trying but advertising wont matter people have to play Bayo2 to understand its greatness hence the demo release. and even though i see advertisements for skylanders i honestly could care less about that game and am glad my son isnt sucked into it as he used to be so just advertisement alone wont be enough word of mouth, youtube and miiverse will promote Bayo2 better that Toys r us ya know. and any big SSB news will flood the media so nintendo waiting to release more information about it until after Bayo2 release is smart because it gives it a better chance to sell more and i also believe its lifetime sales will be alot better and like W101 i am hoping for a continuation of the series.
so my friend though we see things differently for Bayo2 i do agree that Nintendo needs to step up their marketing and advertisements for this Holiday season especially on the eshop. oh and did u dwnload ur Hyrule Warriors master quest pack yet? did u notice that nice big new adventure map we got…see didnt i tell u it would be worth it alone just for those adventure maps! YOUR WELCOME! LMAO!!!
@Grumblevolcano i concur my friend u said it better than me!
For a moment I thought that was Zael as an assist trophy. Damn.
RupeeClock:"This isn't new, the exact same feature was in Brawl and it is returning."
@RupeeClock yeah but you couldn't share in brawl like you could in Miiverse I know gamers don't like this, but gaming is far better when applied in social settings.... a game that you play by yourself isn't very social, but when you add a social element, the game gets far more engaging and interesting... case in point. I beat Assassins Creed IV on PC with vastly better graphics than the PS4 version, but when I replayed AC IV on Wii U, the entire dynamic of the game changed dramatically and I was drawn far more into the replay then the original play through, all because of the Miiverse element.
@rjejr yeah that's a price drop, it's temporary. Expect it to go down and Smash Bros. Wii U to climb soon from about #20 to the top 5 too.
Man, If only I wasn't wrongly reported by that *%^& troll! I would be able to participate in said comedic photography.
I loath the idiotic Miiverse admins.
I also really want to play the last story. Sounds like a good game.
why can't we have that in the 3DS version?
Zael would be an AWESOME additional character.
@WanderingPB - Breathe PB breathe Sorry I got you so worked up. Glad you are seeing commercials on tv.
I got the DLC, but in the process of trying to back up our save files mine got over writen so I'm back to near the beginning, I may just start over I had like 45 hours in too, not happy, not happy at all.
@rjejr um…yeah im sorry…guess i kinda went on a little rant there…seems October 24th cant come soon enough for me LOL!!! im also sorry to hear ur save file in Hyrule Warriors got overwritten…45 hours lost must hurt but the game is so much fun to replay but some of those adventure mode challenges can be frustrating and to lose those gives me a headache imagining doing them all over again so much to play and so little time also dont forget about the MK8 add on content thats also around the corner…plus dont forget all those colorful Yoshi's taunting you LOL!
The internet is for porn.
Someday, someone is gonna create a risque-looking situation with this tool.
It may not matter that they added "black shadows" in select areas. Someone will do it.
I can see some people posting images to Miiverse with these trophies that could wind up ruining it for everyone.
The potential is real folks lol
