Naughty German Retailer Breaks Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Street Date

Kind of thought a store somewhere would do this as people will rush to buy.

Was to be expected...

I'm sure this was bound to happen somewhere. Just a few more days and I can grab me a copy.

I would like mine to be out one day early because I get mine on the 4th so getting it on the 3rd like everyone else would be alright, but I'd feel like I would be cheating Nintendo.

This means very little. We know everything about this game. And it's not like they are the first to play it.

Not fair, why can't my GameStop ever do this??

I always lol at these things. Remember when someone in Canada was selling Pokemon X and Y early and Nintendo literally flew two Nintendo representatives to have a sit down with the owners.

Hey, I've reported a whole Let's Play of the 3DS Smash a couple weeks ago, in one article. No wonder this came full circle.

Eh, it was bound to happen eventually. In fact, I kinda hope that happens with the game store I typically go to tomorrow or Thursday. ^^"

I remember when block buster put Brawl up to rent 2 weeks early. Now THAT was some sweet early access!

Now that I've got my rant out of the way, I expected this to happen, but I'm disappointed that it did happen. Because knowing my luck, this ALWAYS happens when I don't have money. And even if the release date did break here then my store most likely wouldn't have it... sigh

Doesn't even matter if people try to "leak" since unlike X & Y, this isn't a Worldwide release.

@siavm it's not about discovering the game's secrets before release date, it's about sales and how the store is violating the release date just to get more customers

Amazon gave me mh3u a day early last year, granted I was closer to the depot than I am now, but I won't give up hope for some early smash!

However, I've kept my cool this far, two more days won't kill me.

This was to be expected... My local retailer also does this a lot, I expect them to release it tomorrow. I got Paper Mario: Sticker Star a week in advanced.

I won't lie, as customer I'm keeping eyes and ears open in the hope I find a store doing an "early release", however this not change that for retailers this is an unfair cheat move. Raising the sales by taking advantage that the others are following the rules it's plain wrong and shouldn't happen.

It really is all of Germany. It's usually no problem at all to go to Saturn and pick up a game days before it should be released. I now just assume it. Got Mario Kart 8 and Windwaker HD and all kinds of games early.

I think they shouldn't do it, but I can't help take advantage! Europe generally is a bit uninterested in following these rules, or obeying copyright, possibly as a result of not being a particularly creative culture for the past century or so.

the reason I find this frustrating is cause I'm getting dl version so even if a store near me was doing it I wouldn't be able to get it early

My copy was sent out yesterday. They did the same with FIFA last week and it arrived on the wednesday so it will probably be the same. I'm not really fussed on getting this one early as I only bought it to play at Street Pass meet ups and that's not til saturday.

It's always been this way with online pre-orders. I've been getting stuff 1 or 2 days early for over 10 years now, and never understand why people go to midnight launches at places like Game, and usually pay quite a bit more for it. I'm only paying £29, while Game probably charge for £40.

I have Hyrule Warriors and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax to play until October 2nd at midnight, so I am good

Ever consider this is b/c Nitneodo's has weird release dates when pretty much every other game that releases comes out on Tuesday (in the US)? People getting paid minimum wage to work the electronics section who don't care about vidoe games just put stuff out on Tue with the rest of them. W/ all the millions of retail stores all over the planet it's bound to happen. Would probably happen even w/ a normal Tuesday release date but I bet it happens more w /Nintnedos odd days.

Not blaming the victim, Nintnedo should be able to release games on whatever day they want, but it's a reason if not an excuse for sloppy work.

I want it too! It's been way too long already!

@rjejr In the UK at least, Friday is the release date for most things gaming, and the big releases that come out on Tuesday (I think there was some CODs and Halos that did that?) very occassionally, seem weird here.

Well ShopTo are already charging and processing my order, so I'm hoping it arrives Thursday, perhaps even tomorrow!
Strangely enough, the Nintendo Store UK kinda broke street date for Hyrule Warriors, my Special Edition arrived on the Wednesday before it was supposed to come out. Which is a big improvement over what happened with Mario Kart 8…

Got it in advance in France too. I don't care about street dates. Japan has had the game for a month now, and I've been foaming at the mouth for the same time. ^^

You'd care if Nintendo refuses to send more games to these retailers on time

@B3ND3R wait… no, that would be Thursday, the 2nd? It's still September… unless you're furthest reaches of the World(including Japan where it is already out…)? But even then, you're be in the very early hours of the day so it is unlikely to really count since you still have to wait several hours, unless you're going to a midnight launch?

I don't see it as a problem, I mean, Japan got it weeks ago so it's not like they'll be the first mortals who will play it. In Mexico they'll probably have it today, and I'm really thinking on getting it... decisions decisions.

On the other hand, the Pokémon case was a sad story because they broke Masuda-san's dream of a worldwide release. THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD BURN IN HELL!!1

Germany was supposed to get it the 2nd anyway. Still, its a shame online retailers cant do this. I would love to ghet my copy by the 6, when its estimated I will get it the 15oct :<

Didn't know that about Frday's in the UK. I'm guessing the UK gets games like Halo and CoD on Tuedays based on the US leading the way for worldwide releases.

I got my copy in the post today from GAME, I am surprised, usually they don’t break release dates. It must be a mistake! It is like one of the four early release dates that I have ever got in the UK before . Other than that, the game is ah-may-zing.

@Bustacap Canada and Italy has their release dates a day after everyone else for Pokemon ORAS because they broke the release date for Pokemon XY

I actually almost walked home with my smash copy today... Went to pick up Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and they said "you're here for smash bros?" And I was like "uuuh, yes. And P4AU..." He almost bagged it then realized "oh, this doesn't come out til Thursday at midnight... See you there"..

Why is everyone so hyped about this?

@MoonKnight7 This is not some hilly billy shop; we are talking about Saturn, which is together with Media Markt (second largest retailer of consumer electronics worldwide) part of the Metro Group (fifth-largest retailer in the world). Doggeypoopie will happen, if Nintendo still wants to sell some stuff in Europe.

That aside, you can get every game at least 2-3 days before release here. It is nothing news-worthy, nor does Nintendo or anybody else care.

Good for them! Screw the anti-competitive policies of the manufacturers and game publishers.

I haven't read every single comment but people seem to ignore completely that the Streetdate in Germany is OFFICIALLY the 2nd because the 3rd is our national holiday!!!! So they broke the streetdate by one day. I'm pretty sure this will happen all over Europe tomorrow...

Haha, well thanks for filling me in, I do not live in Europe so I am unaware of how big this store is. Nintendo would have to care at least to some degree, no? Not that they could do much about it if this has been done on a regular basis. I'm sure they've tried to address it, but there has to be some sort of loophole. That's rather unfair to all the other stores who wait until the release date. I guess this is a typical, big company can do whatever it wants mentality.
