Looks interesting, and I loved Journey on PS3, but I don’t play “free”-with-caveats games. No money paid, game not played. Simple as that.
Exceptions are games with a price tag, that for various reasons, are free for the duration of a promotion, like what Epic Games does, and publishers occasionally do on Steam.
What ugly graphics! Could they not have used a competent art designer? Screenshot 1 and 4 are some of the ugliest I have ever seen; so much visual noise and way too blocky HUD text. It’s just... hideous!
The three consoles with the fewest sold – Wii U, GameCube, Nintendo 64 – had the largest collections of my favourite games. The SNES also had a great library, and the Switch might get up there, but it’s too soon to say; the Switch has many ports, but few new games I like.
What about the first SteamWorld game, Tower Defense?
I asked the developers five years ago on Twitter why they didn’t bring it to Wii U, but didn’t receive a good answer. Now, with four SteamWorld games on Switch, now is most certainly the time to bring the first game to a console that has all the others in the series!
“Anybody just bashing EA and saying all their games are rubbish are trying too hard to be cool and edgy... EA have published some amazing games”
So, I am trying to be cool and edgy? I didn’t know. I guess I do learn something new every day.
Praising EA for a couple good games amongst hundreds of decisions showing how much they loathe their customers, is perhaps like saying “I heard Hitler was a good father”.
EA, I am proud to be an individual that hasn’t spent money on a game from you since Sim City 4. For all the studios you have absorbed and closed, and the game series you’ve ruined with greedy monetisation, just keep “looking”, please.
This annoys me. Games journalism has been buried by the “journalists” themselves over the last ten-or-so years. Today, what’s left, is a handful actual journalists fighting for readers’ screen time with the “journalists” screening Twitter, Reddit, and other “news” outlets for new stories. Nintendolife is as guilty as anyone else, sometimes better, but also sometimes way worse.
I absolutely am serious. This is not at all a “small blemish”, it is nothing less than a middle finger in disguise and a grand display of disrespect towards the audience they are targeting. I do not condone these practises, the same way as I do not condone anyone flinging faeces in my direction. I vote with my money.
@KayFiOS
“Really? Y'all are choosing not to buy this game because of this? It's not like any of the content you purchase with Wumpa Coins will guarantee your victory; it's all cosmetic. CTR is still a fun kart racer, and it's shallow to decide whether you want to buy a game or not over silly crap like this. I'm not happy about the microtransactions, either, but they're optional, and are but a small blemish on an otherwise fantastic game. You're all robbing yourselves of a good time.”
I expected something like this, so held off buying CTR, and thought I’d wait and see if the game was changed during the first 6-12 months before buying.
And now, Activision, I promise you, you will never get my money!
If I got a decent price for my Switch, so I could only spend about EUR 50 to upgrade, I’d do it. I play 99% docked, so the upgrade is not worth that much to me.
“The first pass is scheduled to arrive in Fall 2019, the second is expected to show up later in the year and the third one is due out next year.”
So the first pass is USD 20, containing three packs, and there will be two more passes, likely at a similar price-point, making the combined price of all the DLC around USD 60.
I loathe what video games have become the last 10-12 years. I prefer complete games on launch day, instead of expanding games over a year or two in an attempt to lure more money from the players with over-priced post-launch content.
Wait, so if Astral Chain is not a commercial success warranting funding for a sequel, then this game series might end on a cliffhanger in the first game? Thanks for letting me know, so I can hold off buying until I know the publisher made a hundred million on this endeavour.
I wholeheartedly agree. This has annoyed me for years. If I have to decipher the headline, then it’s a poor headline!
@Tibob
“Is Giant Tescent a Chinese video game ? No. Tescent is a Chinese video game giant. Please NintendoLife stop putting capitals at the begining of each word so we can understand the title in one read ! "Chinese video game giant Tencent reportedly gives up on Arena Of Valor" = reads great”
I think you need to read about bits and bytes. 1TB equals exactly 8Tb. However, 1TB is about 900 GiB. You mix b with B and decimal with binary. So the room/space to which you are referring is definitely usable.
@Nintendo4Sonic “You guys also know how a hard drive works? When 1TB HDD says, it has 1 Tb, you're getting maybe 850GB to use. There is always room, which is not usable!”
I won’t pay three times more for a physical copy, plus shipping, plus import tax, for any games, even though I love Two Tribes’ excellent games, especially Toki Tori 2. I just wish they’d put all their games on one cart, then I’d probably buy.
“Sega may be playing catch-up with Nintendo when it comes to the whole micro-console business, but the news that the Mega Drive Mini would finally be hitting store shelves later this year has been met with a positive reaction”
That is not even just a little incorrect, that is completely false! Sega has had mini consoles on store shelves for years before Nintendo released NES Classic Mini. It is at least five years ago I first noticed a Sega mini console in toy stores here in Norway, but probably closer to seven-eight years ago. Nintendo and Sony are the companies playing catch-up to Sega!
Care to share links to this information? I never heard of Cuphead for Switch before the announcement, and I'm interested to read related information. Thanks!
I wish Doug Bowser the best, but I still can’t grasp that Reggie is retiring. Reggie has become such a well-known face for Nintendo that I somehow thought this day would never come.
I wholeheartedly agree. Yet some people will come to the rescue of Nintendo’s horrendous design decisions and defend Wii U’s and Switch’s shoulder buttons having binary input.
@steve_1978
“This looks very impressive. I still think that driving simulators will always be limited on the Switch due to the lack of analogue shoulder triggers. Braking and acceleration inputs can not be done properly with simple on/off buttons.”
Nintendo has a great track record making sturdy hardware, but the Joy-Con wrist strap is just awful design. And my launch Switch Pro Controller is the first piece of Nintendo hardware that has ever broken on me since I got the SNES from my parents in 1992.
I never understood the series’ appeal, but I do try with every new game. I have SSBM, SSBW, and SSBU, but I’m just so bad at these games. I mostly buy them to play with friends. Maybe I’ll like SSBU better if I put in the time to get more skilled. Hmmm.
The second Nintendo shuts down another platform’s digital games store, I’ll never buy any downloadable games on Nintendo platforms ever again. It’s frustratingly consumer hostile to shut off access to games whose licenses I own. Fortunately, I owned only one game on WiiWare, and none on DSiWare, but if Nintendo shut down 3DS eShop and the means for me to retrieve games I have the right to play, I’m saying bye-bye Nintendo.
