Just days ago, Reggie Fils-Aimé shocked the video game community, when he announced he would be stepping down from his role as Nintendo of America President after nearly 13 years to spend more time with his family. Replacing him is the appropriately-named Doug Bowser. While the majority of the spotlight is still on the current President, Doug has already received extra attention since the news dropped.
To show his appreciation, he took to Twitter to thank fans for the "warm messages" and stated how he had been taught so much by Reggie over the past number of years at Nintendo and would use all of this knowledge to fuel his own enthusiasm:
"Thanks everyone for your warm messages as I look ahead to this new adventure. I have learned so much from Reggie. His love and passion for Nintendo, along with yours, will never be far from my mind."
Besides welcome messages, fans on social media were also quick acknowledge the fact Mario's number one enemy had taken over Nintendo of America. As a result, it's already turned into a bit of a meme (in more ways than one). Below is a round-up, courtesy of Eurogamer:

Does he not have a Twitter? Dunno why Reggie didn't have one, would've been cool...
Bowser’s inside story
I wish Doug Bowser the best, but I still can’t grasp that Reggie is retiring. Reggie has become such a well-known face for Nintendo that I somehow thought this day would never come.
@Deadlyblack Wrong link, fixed!
@Joeynator3000 Seeing as social media is full of very angry people ranting all the time, it's probably better for your mental health not to be a part of it!
@Liam_Doolan The fixed image is funnier, lol.
LOl 😆
The Twitter picture of Mario and Luigi plushie dolls has been tangled by a Gamecube wire controller as hostages.
finally someone stepped up and gave us Doug Bowsette.
the president we deserve.
I love how NoA is being run by a guy named Bowser
I'm still super sad to see Reggie retire but I have faith in Doug Bowser. He seems to know what's up so far.
Haha this already seems pretty charming. Here is to hoping he is a good guy, and someone all of us Nintendo fans can enjoy seeing in the future.
Congratulations Doug Bowser, take a Bow Sir.
While Reggie will certainly be missed (almost cried during his goodbye video), I think Bowser will be a great president just from how involved he already is at Nintendo. Also, if he is not referred to as Internet Bowser, then life is meaningless.
That first meme is by far the one I've seen the most during my internet rounds. Coincidence? I think not....
I support Doug's appointment. I know the decision for him to be the new NoA president was not made lightly.
In other news, I've heard rumors that a Dr. Mario spinoff is being planned. It'll be known as Dougie Bowser, M.D.
I’d prefer if he opened every speech with GWA HA HA!
Things are probably just going to go on as normal. I really doubt we'll see any changes in the near future.
If E3 doesn't present a story of Doug Bowser's endless rivalry with Mario, I will be immensely disappointed.
Doug looks like a web designer when he has glasses on, and an army drill sergeant when he doesn't.
@Joeynator3000
He does have twitter.
It's @thetruebowser
@Timppis Coolz, thanks.
I thought this day would never come, too. I always assumed Reggie would rise in the ranks and eventually become President of Nintendo Co Ltd. Especially after he got that new job title not too long ago (I don't remember what the title was called, but he was the only one outside of the main Japan office to hold it)
Keep those memes coming!
Ah Reggie, no more "our body is ready". I wish him all the best though, and I wish all the best to king Bowsey!
@ALinkttPresent,
Now that you are saying it, Reggie isn't totally leaving Nintendo. But he is getting a different job, if we are correct.
Mario and Luigi tied up 😂
In reality it will make little difference who is in charge of Nintendo of America,all the major decisions come from Japan,still wish him and Reggie the best though.
@OorWullie no, YOU take a bow, sir! That was brilliant 👏
Now Nintendo really is doomed. I just hope Ganon won't turn up next.
@Joeynator3000 he was too busy running a major company at the time; don’t think he would have had the time to maintain one.
@Anti-Matter we know- someone already made the joke. Sit down.
Hoping he can convince the big N to treat more countries the way they do Japan in terms of fan service and niche releases. I loved Reggie! But back in the Club Nintendo days it always bummed me out Japan got ALL the best rewards. I want a NOA dude who can make a case that diehard fans are in every country
@andrew124 Telling people to stop “cyber bullying” and then calling them “#%$& heads” is pretty hypocritical, no?
Maybe we will finally get Mother 3.
Since he used to work with EA, will their be better relationships between Nintendo and EA?
If they release an internet browser for the switch please call it Bowser browser!
@MJInnocent Haha, cheers. It just popped into my head.
@Jango296 Uh... what makes you think that?
@andrew124 Chill, as you can see he is fine with people meming away with his last name
(As you can see he tied Mario and Luigi with a Gamecube Controller cord in that Tweet)
Edit: Before you assume it is Cyber Bullying, you should "research" if he is actually fine with it or not heheh
Free Luigi and Mario! I guess Peach and Daisy gotta go save those two goombas.
While I am very sad that Reggie is retiring (I changed my profile picture to thank him), I watched the video of the Doug and Reggie guessing game and Doug does have a personality, like Reggie, whereas a lot of corporate mouthpieces seem boring.
Thanks for everything Reggie and good luck for the future Doug!
As long as we get innovative from Bowser then I have no problem. Just don't forget that it's all the gaming community that insured Nintendo survival and return to the "must have" console. And one last part no fighting with Mario do that in the game instead.
At least we won't get NintendoLife using their annoying image anymore during livestreams of Nintendo Directs, with his face plastered on the bulldog nose of an Australian CLP locomotive.
@IceEarthGuard ok, it's just that I don't get why people laugh at his last name. just because his last name is bowser doesn't mean he's mario's arch-nemesis.
Sincerely a good article.
Doug Bowser seems like a great guy, certainly far more friendly and unimposing than Kimishima-San. No offense, but I feel a serious disconnect when it comes to Kimishima, I feel that he's just a suit a doesn't actually care about games, not to say he's doing a bad job, he just doesn't feel like he truly loves games like Reggie and the late Iwata-San do/did.
Wacky fact: Doug use to work for EA.
Maybe send Reggie to Russia, and get rid of the idiot that's mismanaging everything over there...
to the one who is downvoating every comment: how sad is your life? nothing to do huh?
The world is upside-down. Notice Nintendo is shedding everyone with a warm and unique, fan-friendly personality and replacing them with generic corporate suits with no consumer facing presence to match Sony, while XBox now has all the fan friendly personalities? On what planet is Nintendo the unapproachable faceless corporation full of non-descript suits and ad-men, while Microsoft is the friendly, engaging company?
I'm very glad making my Nintendo Switch. Thanks Reggie for my idea.
Reminding me it
