After months of rumours and online retailer listings, EA has finally lifted the lid on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. This remaster (based on Criterion's 2010 game) is being handled by Stellar Entertainment - previously responsible for Burnout Paradise Remastered.
The good news is it's been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, but the downside is it's not arriving until 13th November. That's a week after the game's launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It'll be priced at $39.99 / £34.99 (or your regional equivalent).
The remaster will include cross-platform multiplayer, Autolog (cross-platform sync) and all DLC. The digital size is 6.9 GB and this is how it will run on Nintendo Switch, according to the official NFS website:
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered has been upgraded for today’s generation of hardware with enhanced visuals. The Nintendo Switch version runs at 1080p/30 FPS in docked mode (720p/30 FPS undocked) and includes higher-resolution models, more objects and props, longer draw distance, higher resolution shadows, and improved videos.

Wonder why the Switch version is a week later?
Hopefully we are getting a physical version like we did for Burnout Paradise.
"The good news is it's been confirmed for the Switch, but the downside is it's not arriving until 6th November. That's a week after the game's release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (November 6th)."
Is that a typo? Why is Nov 6th mentioned twice?
@Zach777
It is EA, just be happy it is coming at all!
Awesome, now I get to say I have both versions of Hot Pursuit 2010 on Nintendo systems!
I was enjoying some races in the Wii version earlier, and looking forward to experiencing the "other" (for lack of a better phrase) version for the first time.
The fact they couldn't even manage a same day release for Switch and had to push that version ONE WEEK back like Bloodstained is just hilarious
The day the Switch gets a AAA third party multiplatform release day one with other platforms is the day the first sign of the apocalypse rears its head
@mikegamer They corrected it to the 13th.
...well this is unexpected. Why bother to not have a simultaneous release though? Like, waiting a week between platforms is nothing, but it's just kinda weird to see. Maybe the Nintendo certification fell behind? Or manufacturing issues?
Guess they don't want out money lol
Played this loads on PS3 online and offline from launch for about a year after release. Played it off and on since then, finally got the platinum last year (felt like I'd earned that trophy). Great game, one of my favourite racers, it's just a shame it doesn't have local multiplayer. Will probably double-dip for this on the PS4.
@TheFrenchiestFry It’s going to be Half Life 3, that’ll be the game that finally gets a cross platform release same-day.
I wonder how many people will think the Nintendo Switch port is based on the Wii version of the game, which used recycled assets from Need for Speed: Nitro.
I feel like a downgrade in the Switch version is inevitable. But I wonder how much it'll be...
Still happy they're releasing this game on Switch. Can't wait to have it!
Seems kewl. Might check it out. Whats the price?
So this price means Burnout is getting a price reduction or no?
And when it sells better at launch on the other platforms, we will know why. But EA will blame Nintendo fans again.
This game is already on the eShop and someone was able to buy and play it. There is no reason why it should release on Switch a week after other platforms.
What should I get? This game (which has a GameCube nostalgia factor for me), or burnout paradise? And why?
Also, the week later is a kick in the nuts to Nintendo, maybe still a grudge for Wii U times. EA wants to show its investors they haven’t done anything wrong by not releasing games to the switch, because behold sales are lower than other platforms.
Here is some Switch footage from the Mexican guy who downloaded it early due to an eShop error:

Oof, 30fps? I'm not a frame-rate snob except when it comes to racing games. Hopefully it looks and plays nice otherwise.
@Slowdive According to the japanese packshot they didn't.
I'll buy this just to show support for open world racing. Can't say I like EA, but open world racers are seriously lacking right now on Switch.
I am waiting for this, so good.
Im fine with waiting an extra week, the anticipation is kicking in all of a sudden
@Slowdive as far as i can tell - the japanese leaked switch box art ..................... it seems there will be download needed to play the game. i think they have used a 6GB cart like they did for burnout, so at least 900MB download is needed.
If I still didn't have so much to do on Burnout and a generally huge backlog, I would get this day one. I think I will wait a while on this one. But I will get it.
As someone who loves racing games. Burnout Paridise and this game are definitely are going to be on my Christmas list! So thanks Electronic Arts.
Electronic Arts,
Remember when you released Beetle Adventure Racing and it didn’t require a download and it was rock solid? Yeah, do that again but for Burnout.
Not the biggest EA fan but looking forward to this one on Switch and eventually will grab the other 2 console versions - just a fun & classic racer!!
There was a shot of the Japanese box art to suggest that this will require a mandatory download. To hell to that if it's true. Cartridges should be dirt cheap compared to when the Switch launched three and a half years ago.
@eRaz0r : I doubt that there would be any 6GB cards. Similar to commercial storage devices, I believe the game card capacities are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB.
Disappointed that the Switch version is at 30fps since Burnout Paradise was able to do 60fps.
@Yanina It looks pretty great, too! Thanks for the link, that's put it on my radar now
I do prefer 60fps for racers, but a rock solid 30fps, with some subtle use of motion blur can work wonders on a game like this.
@Zach777 To ensure sales for the PS4/XBOX1 version. Also note that nov 6 is still before the launch of the XBOX Series X|S and PS5. 13th is after the release of the XBOX Series X|S, so nobody is going to buy the Switch version. Making sure that EA can say "Switch version doesn't sell".
@Kintypoo121 I also think it looks really good. Great even.
@Valkian24
NFS:MW is a more graphically intense game than Burnout.
That said, they should have made the cuts necessary for 60FPS. I like 30FPS in most games (I can even tolerate shooters at 30FPS) but racing and fighting games should be 60fps locked.
@TheRedComet Agree for the most part, though racing games can work well enough even on constant 30fps, for example Grid Autosport at its highest graphic setting on Switch still runs ok
Just be glad that Switch get's a upgraded Need For Speed game.
Now i wonder if Switch also gets Mass Effect Trilogy.
@TheFullAndy
You’re totally right. I’m clearly upset by this dilemma and was certainly not just curious. No sir, not simply just wondering why here. Clearly upset.
For everyone moaning about 30fps, the base PS4 and XBOX One consoles are also only 30fps. So don't feel too bad about it.
Nintendolife readers: screw EA. We don't want their games.
Also Nintendolife readers: can't wait to play Burnout. Day one purchase.
Waiting one weak isn't too bad.
30 fps for a Racing game?? I'd rather not have the high res textures and have 60 fps.
Or at least they could have added the option to choose performance or visuals.
Speed at 30 fps seems slow. Sonic Racing is the great example.
I was really looking forward to this game, but until there isnt an option for 60 fps I wont buy it.
People want Mass Effect Trilogy but instead they give us Football and now this...I hope this will sell good enough for them to consider Mass effect.
@ss213 Serious question: did PS2 and PS1 racing games had 60fps?
Because since I am old, this is my main reference point. (That is also why I don't miss analoge triggers. Because I never had any.)
I loved this game on PS3. I'll wait for performance reviews, if they're good I'll be delighted to have this on my Switch.
Let me know when they announce Mass Effect trilogy, otherwise my EA boycott will remain, and has done since Mass Effect 3 on ps3
For those wondering if there will be a physical version, it appears the answer is "Yes." I've found a listing on Gamestop's U.S. page for just such an item.

30fps is very disappointing for a racing game. I'd take a substantial graphical downgrade to have a solid 60fps.
Does anyone know if it's an open world racing game like NFS:Most Wanted or Burnout Paradise ?
If it reviews well I may grab this. Will be my grand return to the Need For Speed franchise since NSF 3: Hot Pursuit (PS1 back in 1998 ). If it's a any sort of upgrade to that game I'm all in. Being a gamer from those days (N64 + PS1) I'm so ridiculously easily pleased! All that technical mumbo jumbo of FPS, HD textures or whatever is Greek to me
This is great! Also it seems they learned about pricing, maybe after Burnout? But $40 seems like a better price for these racers
In Mexico Is out since yesterday
Well, as far as video game news go (you know, the thing one usually visits newsblogs for):
Definitely getting it, although probably not day 1 like Burnout (that release lined up straight with my vacation bonuses, after all), so a week's "delay" is even less of an issue in my case. Hilarious to read suggestions here that people might lose patience and pull the trigger in PlayBox country over the course of that week instead - if one has no interest in a hybrid version that neither generation therein can offer (and it's not like we're talking any other factors a la Starlink here), at what point in time would they ever have been in the market for the Switch one?
eu me lembro disso naquela época!
@TheFrenchiestFry
Didn't Crysis remastered launch first on Switch?
@6thHorizon Crysis Remastered on Switch was first but it also looks about as good as the last gen version of that game and not necessarily all that remastered, barring the technical bugs I've seen. So there's the sacrifice.
@Slowdive Thank you! Then it puzzles me why I don't really feel that much difference between 30 and 70. Even in direct comparison (Grid). Hmm.
So a remaster of a reboot?
Hot pursuit came out in 1998, then they rebooted it in 2010 and now in 2020 we get a remaster of the reboot.
Maybe new games might be nice.
@Slowdive Perhaps we could have new games in new series. Not everything needs to be a sequal.
Interesting so many people are complaining about the Switch port coming one week after the others. You know we are still waiting on Doom: Eternal, right? One week is actually pretty good considering how long we waited for ports like Spyro (and will be waiting for Crash Bandicoot 4).
It would be awesome if they had done a remaster of the original NFS 3 as well and made it like a 30 dollar standalone. Now that would get some nostalgia going for me. This not as much but it's still a great game I'd play again.
Great price! Wish Nintendo did this with their lame ass ports.
This had just reminded me I have Need For Speed Most Wanted on the Wii U. I have Hot Pursuit on the PS3 so need to decide which to play first as haven't played either of them yet.
Will the retail version require a download?
Was this game affected by EA's decision to end all online services for most (or all) of the Need For Speed games May 31, 2021?
