The success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons appears to have rubbed off on Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, with Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates revealing the Nintendo mobile title experienced its best month ever in April and has pushed the total lifetime player spending habits past $150 million.
Downloads of Pocket Camp in the month of April reportedly grew by 547.8 percent compared to the previous month, while player spending rose to $7.9 million - the best its been since August last year:
As we previously noted, it's not all that odd when you consider how popular Animal Crossing has become with mainstream audiences over the past few months. Adding to this, Nintendo has also been promoting a special crossover event - allowing players to receive a set of items in New Horizons if they redeem a code from Pocket Camp on the Switch eShop.
To date, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has now accumulated more than 44.8 million installs. This month was recorded as the second best-ever month in terms of downloads. The launch month (November 2017) still holds the record with 17.6 million downloads.

See, this is very much a successful tactic to invest into the mobile market as a subsidiary service and NOT a replacement to console gaming.
One can compliment the other but when you devote entire talented development teams to mobile, it flops like a fish out of water.
I really hope developers behind games like Bravely Default 2 recognise this sooner than later.
@mesome713 Yeah but somehow Sony still beats Nintendo when it comes to best selling consoles. Is crazy how Sony is slowly taking control over the console gaming industry. Guess people REALLY love their Fifa, GTA and COD
@MuhBael The amount of fanboyism that comes from some of you amazes me. There are many games that I enjoyed on my PS4 dude, none of them were the ones you mentioned. Also, there's nothing wrong with people liking those games. I have managed to enjoyed many games through Playstation like Demon's Souls, Soul Reaver, Okami and Devil may Cry and sure, some of them are also on Nintendo and X Box consoles, but they appeared on a Sony console first.
I love Nintendo games, but Nintendo as a company leaves a lot to be desired and personally as a customer I have found a way better treatment with Sony. Either way, I'm not a fan of any company, just of gaming. None of them will cry if you disappear tomorrow.
@mesome713 love my Switch but Sony devs tons of games. Best not to look so uninformed and rep Nintendo fans better.
@mesome713 Disney says HI try again
@MuhBael um Persona 3 4 5 Kingdom Hearts Uncharted SPiderman Own more then one console Bud P5 is one of the greatest JRPGS ever made.
@mesome713 own more than one console love my Persona 345
I downloaded the game in May 2020.
I know a couple of people were downloading it to “fill the void” since switches are sold out.
This is despicable. What a poor excuse of a “game” and a deceitful way of robbing gullible people of their money.
Nintendo, just admit it, you’re admiring Electronic Arts and want to be like them.
wow those numbers are really crazy, interesting to see, seeing all the hype though it's no surprise that this was their best month ever
But they also just gained 11-12 million new users, and it's not much higher than August last year. What happened last year with this game? Did it get a big update or something?
Where are all the Nintendo fanboys? me raising my hand frantically
I downloaded it to get the items in New Horizons. Now my oldest daughter and son play it.
@mesome713 Quality over quantity
@Octane They did roll out a monthly subscription based service for it I believe last year. I think there's even 2 of them in game which is a little ludicrous. So I'm sure many probably hopped on that when it launched. Many people are also stuck at home now, and (like me) probably can't get their hands on a Switch so this suffices for now. Although I have yet to spend a penny on it and I've been playing since launch.
@Octane That's very true, always best to focus on quality releases, which they do.
Those download figures since March are probably mostly people like me who downloaded it, did enough to get to the part where you can sync it with your Nintendo Account to get the crossover items in New Horizons and then promptly deleted it.
Why!?!? Haha yea maybe it was all the people who don’t have a switch and were sad they were missing out on the hype So they gave it a whirl. Still can’t fathom why so many people paid out of pocket.
@roy130390 Just out of interest what are the reasons you feel Nintendo as a company leaves a lot to be desired? Not trying to be confrontational or even disagree, just genuinely interested (obviously their approach to online is a given).
@andykara2003 No problem, here are some:
1. Their prices with products, specially first party rarely has any discounts. Same with getting new titles in Nintendo selects and their games are more expensive and even worse in many countries, like mine.
2.My Nintendo is pretty much an abandoned service.
3. They refused to repair factory problems with the Switch until they got sued for the drifting problems and as far as I know they don't do it in Europe and they knew about the drifting problems before launch.
4.They have stuff in their games that people defend as tradition like having one island per Switch in Animal Crossing, while if any other developer did the same thing with a game people would end up boycotting their product.
5.They make really weird decisions like making the 3DS region locked or having a friend list that you are not even able to communicate with.
6. Online is both lacking in functionality and in actually offering what other consoles do to make the service more appealing.
I really like Nintendo products, I really do. That's why I have sticked around all of these years, but I find them to be quite inferior to other companies when it comes to customer service. They have a more forgiving fanbase that will defend and even justify any bad practice they make. In the end, they are all companies and have done scummy things, but I really think Nintendo is easily the worst and many of their clients are similar to the Apple ones. They have most of the games I want and I usually choose them when it comes to a game that is available on more than one console, but I still end up having more games on my PS4 simply because many Nintendo titles won't have any price reduction any time soon.
