Sega has confirmed the second 3D Classics compendium for the 3DS, and the big news is that the seminal arcade racer Power Drift has made the cut.
The pack follows the previous retail release which pulled together all of the 3D Classics titles released up to that point. This second selection boasts Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Galaxy Force II, Thunder Blade and Fantasy Zone II Double.
However, as a bonus Japanese players will also get Power Drift, Puyo Puyo Tsu, the original Master System version of Fantasy Zone II and the Sega Mark III title Maze Walker.
The first retail selection never saw release outside of Japan, so it's unlikely that we'll see this collection in the west. That leaves Power Drift in a kind of limbo - there's a good chance that Sega will release it as a seperate eShop download over here, but that hasn't been confirmed as yet.

I want WONDER BOY IN MONSTER LAND and Wonder Boy in Monster World!!!! Pleaseeeeee
I would love a retail release of 3D Classics collection 1 + 2 for the western regions. No problem fitting those together on one cartridge.
I'd love this to come out. I might be wrong, but I don't believe it's on any of the many Megadrive collections that are currently out there.
So where the Japanese get the all these games in a one off payment physical release, here in the west well be made to purchase each game individually as eShop titles?
Can't wait for "Power Drift 3D" to release over here, It is one of my old favourites back in the arcades and home conversions never made the game justice.
Fantastic news, keep 'em coming.
I have the Saturn version, but my Jap converter isn't working for some reason
F%%%+££ing regional locking!
@Rez
Agree with this!
I also want the Shining Force and Golden Axe games! In my 3DS now!
It'd be nice if they decide to release a complete retail collection of ALL the titles at some point.
Gee, thanks.
@RupeeClock I would buy it if they did as long as they contained shining force 1 & 2. I already know about the leaked info about shining force being one of the 3d titles.
Cmon sega!! Why can't we get power drift and these master system games too???
Matter of fact, why can't we get the retail box versions of these classics?? Not fair!! This here American would buy ALL of them day 1
Excellent news! Oh wait... region lock. Sad panda.
This would be a day 1 purchase.
Hope it makes it our way, I love these Sega 3d classics.
So when was the last time Power Drift came out in the West? Back during the computer age, it's not made a console over here since 1998 :-0 17 years ago people...will it make it over here?
I think I found the first 3DS game I'll import...
Power Drift was included in Yu Suzuki Game Works for Dreamcast. I always found it disorienting, but I would give it a go if it was released here for 3DS.
@Pahvi I never had a Spectrum, but the had the Amiga version, and it was awful. I remember back then most Sega games were converted by U.S. Gold, although I think this might of been Activision.....either way most Sega Arcade conversions were dogsh@te, I remember Taito Arcades getting better conversions, mostly by Ocean
Please release these collections in the US
I just wish we could just bundle all of our Sega 3D Classics into one single Icon on the Eshop & I'm not talking about putting them into a single Folder either.
Power Drift Please!
Power drift would be amazing, I loved that game.
I've never heard of Power Drift, it must have passed me by. And, I've got a 3DS LL...
We need PowerDrift in North America. Come on Sega Do it!
I've been begging for this title since they started doing these classics. Please Gaming Gods, the Old and the New and for the love of all things wonderful-please bring this to NA. If I have to go all Pookie from New Jack City on you, I will... (Begrudgingly) but I'll do it.
@Ootfan98 C64 was the way to go for Power Drift at the time I think, its a suprisingly good version.
I have the Japanese Saturn release, fun game but I'd kind of like to see Turbo OutRun, just as there was never a true arcade port on a home system, and FM Towns closest I guess.
Lol, the scale and perspective on the artwork makes the blue car look like its about 20 feet tall driven by someone bigger than King Kong.
Seeing Power Drift running so well on the system makes me wish and believe inside of me that my personal favourite, Outrunners, could be possible ! I mean it's not that much more impressive than Power Drift and that such a great game! Of course this is very much wishful thinking, I'm not actually sure that would be possible technically, I'm just judging from a graphics standpoint.
Power Drift is AWESOME! Maybe we will see Rad Mobile 3D but I am glad to see Maze Walker a.k.a. Maze Hunter 3D and it eve sounds like it has the FM music! I had so many great memories with that game on Sega Scope 3D. Please come to NA!!!
@Ristar42 I would also like to see a Turbo Outrun re release. I think MAME is the only option to play this.
I never had a C64 (I was one those kids who had an Amstrad, while most had a Spectrum or C64). Turbo Outrun on the Amstrad was a pain to play because each stage had to be loaded individually (ok with disc, but with Tape a total nightmare), where the C64 loaded 5 stages at a time.
It's a shame the Wii stopped the C64 VC
@Ootfan98 Yep C64 Power Drift was a single load too, which was great as multi tape loads were a pain, lose a game on a later stage, then rewind and have to load the first stages again! Ports certainly varied back then on the 8-bits, Amstrad CPC had some great ones like Chase HQ.
I hope you guys/girls have a way of getting in touch with Sega, to let them know we want Power Drift also in America, Europe, and wherever the 3DS is being sold. This never has gotten a proper European release, and i am a HUGE fan of sprite scaling games. Only 3 more to go, and all my favorite Sega racing sprite scalers have come home on the 3DS!
Would love to see Turbo OutRun, OutRunners, and Rad Mobile as well! All those games would be a instant buy here!
Gimme.
