@SanderEvers I actually liked it too. Sure it didn't really do anything much new, and kinda wasted it's "coin collecting" gimmick, (and using only one screen for 2-player doesn't make sense, seeing how 3DS multiplayer requires multiple 3DS systems) but it was one of the first Nintendo games to experiment with DLC , and was the first modern retail game put on Eshop for download. Plus the return of the flying raccon suit, and some other retro nods, (the Koopalings, and Reznors) were nice. I actually liked it better then the first DS game which was almost too easy. Plus the spotpass challenges were nice, and such.
Honestly, NewSMB2 gets more hate then it deserves. Sure some are getting sick of the "NewSMB" series, but frankly I'll take it over hardly ever getting any new Mario Adventures, like in the late-'90s-to mid-2000s. Heck, sidescrolling games were practically dead, until NewSMB popularized 'em a bit more in 2006.
It's a shame Nintendo never regards Star Fox's anniversaries... Give us an Arwing Amiibo, or something, Nintendo.
SF64 was my first, and still favorite SF game, and probably one of my favorite Nintendo games period. The first time I used the rumble pack, and hearing characters talk, was a huge deal to me as a kid.
I already got the newer Blaster Master Zero, should I get this one too? (Before the Wii Shop Channel closes.) Is it a different game? Or also a remake of the original?
@Jeronan I think associating it with Wii confused people, and made them think it was a similar system, when it really wasn't.
WiiU had more "hardcore" titles, but was ignored, because gamers assumed it was mostly casual, because of the name, and the lack of casual games also turned off the casual market from it.
The lack of developer support for the Game Pad, and Wii-motes (Oddly, Nintendo themselves even kinda ignored making games that continued to support the remotes.) also kinda hurt it. I remember many developers & gamers even mocking the Game Pad, which is ironic, because it was more like a traditional controller then the Wii-mote & nunchuck were. Developers could've done more with It's touchscreen, microphone, camera, and such if they gave it a chance, but they wouldn't.
It's a shame the industry, and market shun uniqueness, (writing new things off as "gimmicky") the Switch isn't really very unique, aside from being basically a portable console, (which is a nice feature, but given the price, makes many people reluctant to carry it around with them, and it's not quite as portable as a 3DS) which is probably why it's doing so well.
At least gamers aren't bashing it's few motion games. I actually saw gamers bashing WiiU, and say they're "leaving Nintendo 4everz" because they're sick of motion-control games, even though WiiU honestly didn't have that many.
I can't say I feel Switch is all that superior ...yet. A few games look good, but there's still a few things WiiU has that Switch doesn't. Virtual Console, an internet browser, Video streaming aps, (like Youtube & Netflix) and backwards compatibility with previous games, download software, and controllers. (Not to mention, the controllers, and stuff are expensive, unless you get a wired Switch controller.)
I suppose it's nice games are the main focus, but it feels like you don't get much out of the $300 package compared to rival systems, and past Nintendo systems.
I never tire of the original SMB, so I can't argue with the score.
After mastering the original SMB & "Lost Levels," I'm glad to see the VS Arcade version finally get an official home release. $8 seems like alot though, even with the custom & online features added. $5 or $6 would've been better.
Also, that one guy claiming there's no "demand" for these games is very ignorant... I've been wanting the first-party Nintendo arcade games sense before the Wii days.
I even want Nintendo's "Popeye," though licensing costs will keep it off the Eshop unfortunately... I really wish we could get some licensed games like it, TMNT, Duck Tales, and such.
@Equinox to be fair, the Arms cast, and most Nintendo characters already look pretty Westernized as opposed to Japanese manga-like. (Even Super Mario doesn't look like a Japanese character.) Just look at the F-Zero comic in the SNES game's manual.
Glad to hear Ian Flynn is writing it. He does great Sonic & Megaman comics. Nintendo & Dark Horse comics haven't collaborated sense the Blast Corps Nintendo Power comic, so nice to see them together again.
@Zerow Depends on the store... Some have only 4 or 5 games, and only one case dedicated to all Nintendo games, (including 3DS & Switch) but have several cases for just one PS4 or X-Box systems... I really hate how Nintendo fans always get so fewer games in retail, regardless how well the Switch & 3DS were doing.
Also, because nobody made the reference yet... "LOVE STINKS!"
@sleepinglion "Sim City" is unlikely now, because EA bought/owns the series now, and we all know how EA truly feels about Nintendo, and Nintendo-fans... (If Bob Summerwill's PS4-fanboy-like comments are anything to go by.)
They even made Nintendo take it off the Wii Shop Channel years back, and never allowed it on WiiU, or New3DS.
It's a shame, because ironically, Miyamoto is actually good friends with Sim City's original creator Wil Wright, ever sense he helped him make the SNES version.
Must every NL article that mentions any Sonic game that doesn't scroll from left to right act like it's a bad, or mediocre game? "3D Blast" wasn't that bad, seems alot of people here actually like it. The only real bad thing about it was, the first few levels take a long time to play, so the lack of a save/password feature can be annoying. Especially, when trying to get all the emeralds. (Which thankfully, the bonus levels aren't ridiculously-hard like other old Sonic games.)
Wish we could play it in his honor... Sure it's not the most advanced or best golf game, but it's still a good relaxing game that requires planning, strategy, and good reflexes.
While I'm glad the original arcade "Mario Bros" is on Eshop finally, (which looks better then the NES game) $8 is kinda pricey for such a simplistic retro game. (You can get Mrs. Pac-Man officially on your phone cheaper then that!) Kinda makes me less excited for the other upcoming arcade Nintendo games, if they're going to cost as much as 16-bit titles.
@j-life The difference is, the Game Boy Camera wasn't really "slow" like outdated cellphones, and such. In fact ironically, old games thanks to their low tech' like that didn't have slow loading screens, and such. So advanced technology case in point doesn't always equal a greater product. This is why color handhelds like the battery-guzzling, and fragile to drop Atari Lynx, and Game Gear didn't outdo the Gameboy, as despite it's limitations, it was overall more fun to use, stronger, and had a more impressive battery life.
Also, it was surprising how many cool animated menu screens, easter eggs, features, minigames, customizations, trick lenses, and such were actually in the 8-meg Gameboy camera cartridge. It has more features then honestly the 3DS camera does.
I don't care if it is "outdated," and blablabla honestly there's more games on 3DS that I like then there are for Switch, PS4, and X-Bone combined.
With the 3D on, (am I the only one who actually uses it?) honestly it makes the pixels less noticeable, and I'm not that bothered by the resolution even in 2D mode.
I miss F-Zero. A new one doesn't have to be "bigger" then GX. (Which honestly did some things wrong, like making the difficulty rediculous, especially in "Story" mode.) One like GBA's "GP Legend," that's more back to basics would be welcome.
Also, I don't understand Nintendo's logic that they can't make a new F-Zero, Star Fox, ect. unless it's way different from the previous ones, yet continue to rehash other series, like the "New SMB" games? (Though, I still like those too.)
@j-life Gameboy actually had great graphics comparible to the NES, and such systems, despite the four shades. (Link's Awakening actually had better graphics then either NES Zelda game.) I think it's unfair to call it "underpowered."
Heck, some could call the NES or GB underpowered, just 'cause they're 8-bit, but their graphics were awesome conpared to the likes of Atari. And honestly, I find their games more enjoyable then recent PS4 games.
While it's hard for me to trust reviews like this, (according to this site "Balloon Fight" is a bad game, and I love it) I kinda wish 3D Sonic games would go back to the more "Sonic Adventure" style physics personally. I actually enjoyed spindashing, and jumping around Station Square, and such. I prefer the old floaty feel, as it felt more closer to the older games, then the heavier feel in newer ones.
The "release this game for every console, but the Nintendo one" cycle begins again... Makes it hard for me to trust third-party companies.
First we don't get "Disney Afternoon Collection" (ironic, considering every game in it are NES games) now this? I am NOT buying a different console just to get these games.
I really hate this multi-platform bias too. Can you think of any games released for Nintendo & X-Box, but NOT Playstation?
I have the SMB G&W keychain. It's actually pretty good, (even got over 999 points for it, beilieve it, or not) surprised it was never rereleased in the G&W Gallery games. (Guess Nintendo feared people would mistake it for the NES game.)
I find it funny people are upset it's not coming to Switch. As somebody who doesn't have one, (nor really want one yet) and has a 3DS, I'm actually glad to see support for the 3DS VC. The Switch looks like a decent system, but it doesn't look like a proper successor or replacement to the 3DS, and not many people I know lug those expensive things around everywhere, and just leave them at home. So it's really no better then a WiiU at this point.
Nothing for us WiiU owners. I hope this doesn't mean the end of the WiiU Eshop. And no, I can't afford a Switch, nor really see anything for it I want that badly yet. (That "Disney Afternoon" NES game compilation being released for every format except any Nintendo systems also doesn't make me hopeful for Switch's "third party support.")
@StarDust4Ever Actually, they have before with their "Nintendo Mini Classics" Game & Watch keychains, and those worked perfectly fine. Not all licensees are bad. Sega & Namco had controllers with games built into them before, and those were kinda cool. But yeah, the sound quality on AtGames were a bit off.
@Spoony_Tech Actually, Monster Hunter would have to be "dumbed down" for Switch too anyways, seeing as it's not as powerful as a PS4, or other consoles. And honestly, despite not being the most graphically powerful system, the 3DS still provides games that are just as good as any console game.
If they can't keep up with demand, and want to focus on newer stuff, why don't they just license it to another company to manufacture for them? Sega's done that for years with all their Sega console remakes.
Same with the Virtual Console, seeing as Nintendo practically gave up on the 3DS one, the WiiU one is starting to slow, and the Switch one doesn't exist yet. They should put somebody else in charge of rereleasing their old games, and such. Like M2 or something.
I doubt it, third-party companies think Nintendo fans don't like FPS games for some reason. (Despite ironically N64's "Goldeneye 007" helping popularize the genre on consoles. Before that, they were almost all practically PC-exclusives.) If I had a dollar for every game I've seen available for every system, but the Nintendo one...

Nice! Now we just need "Disney Afternoon Collection" too. (Seriously, there's no reason that couldn't work on any Nintendo systems.)

Re: Super Mario Land 2 Gets a Fan-Made Colour Treatment
@WaveBoy I don't think the level design was that bad, the low-gravity Space Zone levels were actually rather creative, and the game had locations we never see in Mario games, and didn't rely on the cliché "Forest World," "Desert World," "Ice World," and such. Plus the ability to chose any Zone you want was a welcome feature, and gave the map screen more reason to exist.
I don't even mind the low difficulty honestly, as not every game has to be hard to be fun. Plus finding all the secret stages without looking 'em up online can be challenging. (Odd, the Mario Zone doesn't have one.)
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th December (North America)
8-bucks honestly feels expensive for an NES-quality game. Regardless, nice to see VS SMB finally getting a home release.
