Re: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Won't Be Coming to Wii U

Beau_Skunk

@Pod I've only had a WiiU a year, so honestly I'm not ready to spend another $200/$300 on a new console this soon.
Honestly, I'm not very excited about the Switch yet. The games look nice, but I kinda expect it to have a crumby battery life like most modern electronics, be a bit fragile, and the controller pieces look easy to lose/fall off/break. Hopefully, Nintendo proves my worries wrong.

Re: Poll: Retro Delights and Stock Shortages - What Are Your Thoughts on the NES Mini Launch?

Beau_Skunk

Honestly, I think you guys are being too paranoid with the "Nintendo is evil! They're doing it on purpose!" schtick.

What I believe truely happened was, Nintendo wasn't expecting it to be a huge seller, and didn't want to waste to much money making them, due to the low WiiU sales, and such so they didn't make enough, because of that. Nintendo can't predict what will be a hit, or miss.

Re: EA Executive Clarifies Scope of Nintendo Switch Support, but is Cautious of Its Prospects

Beau_Skunk

@World Yeah, those also have great SNES soundtracks.
Wish EA would allow it on VC, seeing as the SNES version of "Sim City" was actually mostly made by Nintendo. In fact, Shigeru Miyamoto helped Wil Wright make the game on SNES, (and a cancelled NES version) and they became friends as a result. So it's a crime EA won't let his series on Nintendo platforms. (EA bought out Maxis & Sim City years back.)

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Bubble Bobble

Beau_Skunk

@leo13 The mini NES's screen color/brightness is better though. This will be the first game I play when I get one.

Japan has a 3DS VC version though, and it would be nice to have a portable version... Shame Nintendo won't allow NES & GB games on 3DS anymore.

Re: Features: NES Mini Classics - Galaga

Beau_Skunk

I prefer Pac-Man, but Galaga also has a place in my heart. Glad Namco/Bandai let them include it.

Nothing more rewarding then recapturing your stolen ship, and then powering up into a double ship!

Re: Nintendo Confirms Wii U Production Is Coming To A Close

Beau_Skunk

I've only had mine a year... So I'm quite disapointed to hear this, and sickened people here are happy about this. Hope we still get VC & Eshop games for awhile at least.

Not ready to spend another $300 or whatever on the Switch personally. (And honestly not to excited about it yet) I'm not made of money.

Re: Looks Like Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About The Wii U's Failure

Beau_Skunk

@Mahe I doubt it, as the WiiU has had many more gsmes made for it, and more fans then the Virtual Boy did.
Obviously, you're just a "hater" if you think Bayonetta, Splatoon, ect. are "bad games." Just 'cause we actually enjoy the system & it's games doesn't mean we're "apologists," which is a ridiculous assumption.

Also, many so-called "failed" consoles are actually pretty fondly remembered. Just look at the Turbo Graf-x, Sega CD, Dreamcast, and even the GameCube. So they weren't complete failures like some assume as they still proved profitable, and have achieved cult status.
Not to mention, just 'cause something doesn't sell well doesn't make it "bad."

Re: Review: F-Zero X (Wii U / N64)

Beau_Skunk

@NodesforNoids
I disagree with everything you said, I like the N64, it's graphics & games were just as good as any CD game, at the time,, F-Zero X was a good game, (and frankly GX's Story mode was too ridiculously hard to be enjoyable, so I feel the GCN game wasn't perfect either, and lacked some things I liked about the older games) and frankly I liked the versitility of the N64 controller, it's accesories, and it's unique design. The N64 helped popularize things still used in the game industry today, including pressure-sensative thumb-sized analogue sticks, rumble feature, and such that PS1 copied not to long afterwards. So it's rather unfair to demonize it based solely on it's flaws (all consoles have them) and not on it's strong points, and how it helped the directions 3D games were taking.

Also, how was "F-Zero" overrated? If anything, it's very underrated, gotten obscure, (aside from SSB) the anime was very short lived in America, and only one game in the series (the first) managed to sell a million copies. So please spare us all this hipster, "it's overrated, and not perfect, so it's bad" attitude please. You really need to calm down.

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Excitebike

Beau_Skunk

I want a new Excitebike done in the way of WiiWare's "Excitebike World Rally," but with local multiplayer, and more new obstacles, and more new backgrounds, and other new features perhaps. Plus it'd look great in HD, or on the 3DS in 3D.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Mini NES?

Beau_Skunk

Also, as for the nay-sayers, honestly the Wii/3DS NES VC emulation isn't as good. They showed the brightness, and colors look better on the NES Mini.
When playing NES games on 3DS they look way too dark to me, even on the brighter backlit settings, and are kinda hard to play on that system to me.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Mini NES?

Beau_Skunk

Definitely getting it, I've been waiting months for it. Honestly, I'm more excited about it then the Switch, Pokemon, or anything else upcoming game-related really.

@rjejr
You do realize not every 8-bit NES game is hard, right? Not to mention the save slates will make the games easier for beginners.

Re: Wii U Version Of Slain: Back From Hell Looking Doubtful

Beau_Skunk

Maybe if you third party developers would actually MAKE games for a Nintendo system, maybe they'd sell better. Seriously, I'm so sick of seeing games released for every console, but the Nintendo one. I refuse to even buy any version of "Sonic Mania" unless it comes to a Nintendo system.

Re: Upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Gets a New Executive Producer

Beau_Skunk

As a longtime Sonic fan, I'm looking forward to it, regardless how it turns out. Even if it's "not great," it should be worth some lulz like the classic Street Fighter & Mario Bros. movies.

The Deadpool director may be promising, as that movie nailed Deadpool perfectly. Though, I just hope they don't overdo the self-awareness comedy, which might not fit with Sonic.

Heck, I liked the new TMNT2: Out of the Shadows" movie. So I have pretty low standards.

Re: Review: Super Castlevania IV (3DS eShop / SNES)

Beau_Skunk

@GreatPlayer I understand, though I've watched videos of it, and while it doesn't look bad, it doesn't seem to do anything different/new with the series, and honestly the movements/physics look more stiff, and difficult much like the early NES games. (Though, I could be wrong, as I never played it, and you can't just rely on videos.)
I like how CV4 at least does some things differently, and the whip is more useful, (though, renders most sub-weapons useless as a result) and you can actually change direction while jumping being able to move & attack more smoothly. So I don't feel it runs that badly.

Re: Review: Super Castlevania IV (3DS eShop / SNES)

Beau_Skunk

@Morshu-San I disagree, I liked the soundtrack overall. Especially, the library theme, Simon's theme, the treasure level, and such.

@GreatPlayer
You can't always trust everything random Youtube "critics" say. Frankly, I never played the Genesis game "Bloodlines," but I tend to see more people who like the SNES game.

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Dr. Mario

Beau_Skunk

Yeesh, not many puzzler/Dr. Mario fans here. Shame, I'm glad it's included personally, (shame, no Tetris) as I rather enjoy the game when I was little. Love the music too. Good percussion for 8-bit standards.

I wish "Dr. Mario 64" could come to VC.

Re: Video: Sonic Utopia - The Ambitious Fan Demo That Might Be Better Than Some Official 3D Sonic Games

Beau_Skunk

Looks cool, but honestly I tire of how every article related to Sonic on this site always touts every fan-game as "better then the real thing," or can't ever mention the controversial quality of the series, or whatever. Can't we ever have anything somewhat positive on Sonic here?

While it's well done, I also don't think it's "better then the real thing," as said above, Sonic needs linearity. An open world is pretty easy to get lost in, and it looks difficult to tell where you're supposed to go. The areas also mostly look the same, with very few enemies, items, and such with little platforming variety.
I understand it's just a demo, and not finished yet, but it's a li'l much to say it's better then a real 3D Sonic game. Frankly, I think the hub areas of Sonic Adventure 1 are still better designed.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

Beau_Skunk

Ought to make those whom bashes the DS & WiiU Game Pad happy. I never got the hate over the Game Pad honestly, (I don't think gamers & developers gave it much of a chance) especially from those who didn't like the "gimmicky" Wii-mote & nunchuck. The Game Pad was more of a "normal" controller then that, just with a touchscreen, scanner, and microphone built in. (So no need to buy those separately. Surprised developers didn't take advantage of the microphone for voice chat in games. Granted, being cussed out by 11 year olds loses it's charm.)

My only critique with it is, how it's required to operate the console, and some aps/games don't always offer alternatives like using the Wii-mote for Youtube would've been a better alternative if you wish to watch it on the TV then the Pad.
Granted I don't have the U Classic Controller to see if it can be used in it's place.

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Donkey Kong Jr.

Beau_Skunk

No DK games call Diddy his nephew, only SSB did once. (And that might not be accurate.) Not to mention Diddy is a monkey, while DK is a gorilla.

As for DK Jr. I loved sense I was little, I think I actually prefer it over the first DK. (And unlike the NES version of that, this one has all 4 levels, though lacks the "cinema scene"" animations of the arcade game. The arcade version's ending was a li'l longer too.)
It may be short, but it's fun to see how long you can last, how many level loops you can get past, and how high your score can get.

Re: Get Some Nostalgia Feels From These Super Game Boy Borders

Beau_Skunk

Nice to see appreciation for this rather underrated feature. The pixel art for the SuperGB boarders were quite nice to look at, and it was a nice extra feature for GB games being played on the SNES.

The DK'94, Wario Land 2, Link's Awakening DX, DKL, and G&W Gallery ones are among my favorites.
