With over 100 games under his proverbial belt, it'd be foolish to assume that every title Mario's appeared in is an absolute winner. Edutainment title for DOS, dodgy licensed CD-based games, it's madness to think there couldn't possibly be ten Mario games worth shoving in a list to mock and lose hope over.
That's why we teamed up rabbidluigi to explore this rather-forgotten corner of Mario's past, and hopefully not catch any nasty diseases in the process. Check out the video above and let us know what you think of all this jazz in the comments below.

Hotel Mario aint that bad, I'd play it over Mario Pinball, any edutainment title and the Mario Party games mentioned. The 2600, Intellivision Donkey Kong games are easily worse seeing Colleco made them to be terrible as they wanted to give the impression that their Collecovision (which had a good conversion) was a superior console.

Mario Party 9 & 10 are pretty disaster Mario Party games.
My absolute worst was Mario Is Missing. I saw it in the video store and was excited that Luigi got his own adventure. .. what a waste of a weekend that was
I think you guys should come up with a different word other than "worst".

Agreed about Mario is Missing. God, when I was younger I tried to play that game over and over again cause I thought I was missing something. Every single time, it just couldn't hold my attention. Later I learned, that it was just a horrible game with the Mario name attached to it.
I think I am the only person on Earth who enjoyed Mario Pinball... I must have put 100 hours into that game over the years and remember most of them fondly! I would love a cheap e-shop sequel to it for sure!

@YamAsereht I completely agree. , I loved New Super Mario Bros 2 on 3DS I thought it had some of the best level designs of any 2D Mario platformer and I liked collecting the coins not to mention it looks great in stereoscopic 3D.
2015 might have been a tough year for nintendo, but somehow the nintendolife content was way better back then. I've had to switch to mynintendonews again this year with how many nintendo news nintendolife is missing out on reporting lately

Surprised sticker star is in there when they gave it 8/10! Hardly a disastrous score ! And it’s an amazing game !
The worst Mario game that I've played is Sticker Star. I was just so bored while playing it, and there was no point in battling after a point because i just had to many coins. That being said, its a technically solid, functional game, with OK music and good graphics, which is more than some other series worst games can boast.
@Anti-Matter I never played Mario Party 10, but 9 was actually quite fun once I got over my skepticism. Not perfect, but my family had a lot of fun with it. The beach themed board was boring, but we liked all the other boards.
Having said that, we didn't return to it as much as we did 8 or the GC releases.
I would like to second the New Super Mario 2 sentiment. Not a terrible game, but it reeks of apathy.

This list is silly. No way is New Super Mario Bros 2 worse than Sticker Star. At least NSMB2 was fun to an extent, can't say that for Sticker Star whatsoever.
Nor is Mario Party Advance worse than Sticker Star or Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. If you go into Mario Party Advance expecting a single player experience, it's really not all that bad, I personally enjoyed it a fair bit. It's certainly not up there with the best Mario games but to say it's this bad is really silly.
Of course anything after that fits for obvious reasons, but really.

Maro sticker star is my favourite paper Mario game and one of my favourite mario games, the bosses were awesome, the storyline had so much character and personality to it, I laughed so hard and that soundtrack...man did I love that soundtrack especially the disco boo theme 😍
I liked Mario is Missing! despite it being edutainment. Luigi was doing his proto-run of being the star saving his bro lol. I'm also a geography fan, so this Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? reskin entertained and taught me some good stuff. And strangely, I still hum some of the tracks
@samuelvictor It's similar in the fact it's almost a clone except it just feels so much worse to play haha. Like comparing Gran Turismo to Big Rigs.

The worst Mario game I've played was color splash. However, I have never played a bad Mario game, color splash dulls in comparison to thousand year door.
I know nsmb2 wasn’t the best of the nsmb games, and getting 1ups was pretty pointless, but I still really enjoyed the game and it seems out of place included with all these others. Even though I haven’t played Hotel Mario or Atari Mario Bros., I think I would have given 1st place to the Atari Mario port. Hotel Mario, may have been weird and boring, but I would still rather play 10 minutes of it that terrible looking Atari Mario.
@SanderEvers I actually liked it too. Sure it didn't really do anything much new, and kinda wasted it's "coin collecting" gimmick, (and using only one screen for 2-player doesn't make sense, seeing how 3DS multiplayer requires multiple 3DS systems) but it was one of the first Nintendo games to experiment with DLC , and was the first modern retail game put on Eshop for download. Plus the return of the flying raccon suit, and some other retro nods, (the Koopalings, and Reznors) were nice. I actually liked it better then the first DS game which was almost too easy. Plus the spotpass challenges were nice, and such.
Honestly, NewSMB2 gets more hate then it deserves. Sure some are getting sick of the "NewSMB" series, but frankly I'll take it over hardly ever getting any new Mario Adventures, like in the late-'90s-to mid-2000s. Heck, sidescrolling games were practically dead, until NewSMB popularized 'em a bit more in 2006.
Mario Bros. plays just fine on the 2600.
Yes, yes I know this is just your opinion(s), but you're going to have a very difficult time convincing me that new Super Mario Bros. 2 is somehow worse than Super Mario Bros. Special, Mario Pinball Land, Mario Teaches Typing, Mario and Wario, and Super Mario Run. Sheesh!
@Mijzelffan Yeah,Nintendo Life misses a lot of news.They also seem to put out less review than they used to.I uses to use them to see if I would buy a game but I can't do that anymore.
This video is stupid, name of the video even dumber. IMO! = New Super Mario Bros. 2 is by NO MEANS a "bad" game so why is it in this video? We get more and more #youtube videoes with this Alex guy who isn't too bad but still tries to hard to be funny when he's not. Meanwhile we get less and less actual news and reviews. When news and reviews do appear on NL I have almost always heard or seen them on youtube before they arrive hear.
Isn't "Mario Sports Superstars" a worse Mario sports game than "Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash," while "Mario Sports Mix" is on a similar level of mediocrity?

I typically like Alex's videos, but this one is pretty poor. New smb2 was quite fun and the critique of it is unwarranted IMO. Its a fun game specifically for collecting coins. You want a hard mario game? They're out there.

Don't have the time to check our the video now, I'll watch it an hour or five. I'm guessing that spin-off's are going to make up majority though. It would be a difficult endeavor (maybe not) to craft a list of top 10 main Super Mario platforming games. If this is what it is, then props to you Alex and (if I actually read the article) rabbidluigi.
Have to agree that they're too hard on NSMB2. It's easy to earn lives and you never get a game over, but you can say that about pretty much any Mario game (aside from the NES ones). It still has solid level design, which is what counts at the end of the day.
The rude language used in the video was unnecessary.
