Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Beau_Skunk

Actually, I hear WiiU's software sales were very very good despite low console sales, so it wasn't a complete failure, and still managed to last much longer then the Virtual Boy. Also, just 'cause something isn't a huge seller doesn't make it bad. Remember how badly "EarthBound" sold when it first released? Now it's among the best selling Virtual Console games.

I've only had a WiiU a li'l over a year, and despite the hateraid it gets, I don't regret getting one. I have many good games for it, (more then I did my Wii, and some other systems) I enjoy chatting with friends in WiiU Chat, enjoyed Miiverse, it's other aps, and such.

In fact, honestly, the Switch is probably the first Nintendo system I'm not looking forward to. Expensive price tag, expensive subscription online services, a 6-hour battery charge isn't promising for portability, no backwards compatibily with past systems/games/controllers. All the things I liked about Nintendo's past systems aren't really reflected in it.

I will admit, some games look cool though, but that's about it. I may get one some day, but for now I'll stick to WiiU, and hope the Eshop will still get some updates.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th January (North America)

Beau_Skunk

Not much hype for the best Star Fox game?
The WiiU version is pretty well-done, the "dead-zone" analogue stick issue, isn't present like most N64 games on WiiU, so the controls are perfect once customized to your preference. You can now save in the middle of the game with VC's suspend save, and the animation framerate issues from the Wii version are gone.
Also, it has rumble, and the Wii version wasn't the same without it.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Require a 3GB Install on Wii U

Beau_Skunk

Seriously? I don't even have one entire GB on my WiiU! Doesn't help I have the SSB & Splatoon version, SSB alone takes up 13GB.
I don't even understand how my VC games are taking up so much memory.
Great, now I have to get one of those overpriced hardrive thingies. I love the WiiU, but it's data storage optione are ridiculous. SD Cards can't even help expand it's storage like 3DS & Wii.

Looks like I might have to delete SSB, or something, or wait, and get the Switch version years later... Or not get the game, I hate missing out on every new Zelda game at release time. I couldn't even get "Skyward Sword," because I don't have a Wii-mote Plus.

Re: Nintendo Switch Has 32GB Internal Memory, Expandable With Micro SD Cards

Beau_Skunk

In regards to the complaints, at least they're giving us SD Card alternative storage compacity, something the WiiU lacked. (Instead forcing us to get $60/$80 unofficial hardrive storage devices...)

Seriously, I can't even get all the games I want unless I delete SSB & such off mine. I wish I COULD put SSB for WiiU on an SD Card! (13GB game.) So honestly the Switch is a major improvement.

Re: Feature: Ten Classic Games Which Would Be Great To Play On The NES Mini

Beau_Skunk

Actually "Lost Levels" becomes pretty good, if you're really good at the original SMB. Also, there is an advantage to using the "reverse warp zones." You can use them to grind for extra lives in previous worlds, if you know where the hidden 1ups & coin rooms are. (Which "Lost Levels" has more of, then the original SMB, so it has some gameplay improvements.)

Nice to see Duck Tales & TMNT get kudos.

Re: Persona 5 Will Not Be Coming to the Switch

Beau_Skunk

@Manjushri I think it's capabilities will be fine, but the problem is, most third-party developers tend to fly to the more powerful consoles, and the ones with the best graphics. Unfortunately, those are usually not Nintendo, as they care more about actually making games, and affordable systems, rather then "movie-like games."

Honestly, video game graphics nowadays don't look much different from the previous generation's to me. We're reaching a point where graphics aren't going to look much better then they do now. So I never understood that graphics/power bias most game developers, and gamers in general have. (Which results in all the bias against Nintendo. Heck, when discussing consoles most media outlets never even mention Nintendo systems.)

Though, I suppose people asking for "Persona" on Nintendo, would be like asking for Metroid on Playstation.

Re: Video: Get a Good Look at Freedom Planet 2 in Character Preview Footage

Beau_Skunk

Nice looks more like an early 32-bit Saturn 2D game, or something. I kinda miss the more cuter/chibi looks they had, but I guess these more anime-ish/humanized forms are meant to differentiate them from the Sonic series more.

Shame it looks like the WiiU version is getting cancelled... As I don't really want to get a Switch yet. I've only had WiiU a year, so I feel a bit cheated everyone's happily abandoning it now. Not everyone has $250/$300 to spend.

Re: Persona 5 Will Not Be Coming to the Switch

Beau_Skunk

Honestly, I feel Sega's been giving Nintendo the shaft lately considering we aren't ever going to get "Sonic Mania," and the "Sonic Advance" trilogy has been out in Japan for WiiU for a year now. (And most Japanese gamers don't even like Sonic ironically.)
I think they're punishing Nintendo fans for not liking "Rise of Lyric," and such.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Due to Receive an Ultimate Steelbook Blu-Ray Re-release

Beau_Skunk

I'd buy it, don't care what anyone says.

@gizmoto I recall, Hoskins' disdain for the movie was actually due to how obnoxious he found the directors to be. According to him, they got so bad their own agent finally had to tell them to get off the set. So it might not of been the movie itself he hated, (considering other equally strange movies he's done) just making it.

Re: Nickelodeon Allegedly Creating Animated Film For A Nintendo Series

Beau_Skunk

I'll be amazed if it doesn't go into development hell, and actually does get finished. (Unlike the 2000s cancelled Metroid movie) I'm a li'l skeptical having Nick make it, but admittedly they did a good job with the new TMNT show, and the "Out of the Shadows" sequel was much improved over it's predecessor.

I wouldn't mind a Balloon Fight movie either. That game rules. (Despite the unfortunately bad score & review this site gave it. One of the reasons I rarely even read the reviews here.)

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd December (North America)

Beau_Skunk

Shantae requires too much data, (why couldn't WiiU use SD cards like Wii & 3DS?) so I'll have to get the disc version.

MP2 would be nice, once they fix the discount for those of us whom have the Wii version...

Still, I wish we could get the original Mario Party. Dispite MP2's "improvements" it felt more like a Mario game (with more Mario music nods & such) technically had more levels, felt less "kiddy," had better music, a better minigame island mode, a cool "finale" event when you get 100 stars, and such.
I also like the options screen being a peaceful li'l village.
Only way they could release it though, is if they somehow reprogram the game to no longer include the blister-inducing/controller breaking "spin the analogue stick as quickly as possible" minigames, or change their controls. With Hudson out of business, and Nintendo not willing to go through that much trouble to sell a $10. game, we'll never get the original unless they remake it from scratch.

Re: Fresh Download Discounts Come To My Nintendo In North America

Beau_Skunk

Forget you, guys. These are actually good games. Picked up "NES Open Tornement Golf," and "Mario Tennis," and have been enjoying them. Thinking of getting "Superstar Saga" too, as that was a great game too.
I wish they'd give us free titles again too, but you guys are acting so entitled, it's not even funny. Discounts aren't bad either.

Re: Fresh Download Discounts Come To My Nintendo In North America

Beau_Skunk

Oh, chill out all you! I haven't seen so much whining, and complaining, sense the election. These are actually pretty good games, and I'd personally love to get discounts on them.

Though, I'd rather have "Wrecking Crew" for 3DS then WiiU personally. That's my only critique. It's a good game, believe it, or not, and even this site gave it a good score.

I suck at "Golf," but I still like it regardless as odd as that sounds.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release

Beau_Skunk

I have a feeling eventually Nintendo & third-parties are just going to treat the Switch like they did WiiU, so I'm honestly NOT cool about upgrading. Especially, 'cause I only had the WiiU a year, I have many great games for it, but it's sad the industry & consumers have been treating the console like it's a joke.

Sega won't even give us the Sonic Advance trilogy, and they've been out in Japan (a region where Sonic isn't even popular) for nearly a year. It's getting hard to trust third-party companies when it comes to supporting Nintendo's new system.

Re: NES Classic Mini Demand "Greater Than We Anticipated," Admits Reggie Fils-Aime

Beau_Skunk

Guys, chill. After the WiiU's low sales lately, and all the neighsayers online saying they don't want one, "cuz I iz already hav the games," (I partially blame those guys) and such, it's not too surprising Nintendo didn't expect it to be an insanely huge seller, and didn't make enough units. I honestly wasn't expecting it either, 'cause I assumed everyone only cared about FPS games, & cellphone shovelware now.

Though, this isn't the first time... I remember as a kid how hard N64 units used to be hard to find.

Re: Review: Excitebike 64 (Wii U eShop / N64)

Beau_Skunk

I loved the original, VS, & WiiWare Excitebike games, but honestly I kinda regret buying/downloading this one, as I found it too complicated, and the physics very annoying.
I might give it another chance later though, but honestly just turning corners is a chore, and feels more complicated then a real bike.
This is nothing like "Wave Race 64," that was not as sluggish, or hard to play.

Re: Demon's Crest

Beau_Skunk

Is this basically a SNES sequel of the "Gargoyle's Quest" GB & NES games? If so, then I'd love to try it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st December (North America)

Beau_Skunk

@Windy
Not always, where I live some used NES games can go up to $10/$15. Heck games like "Turtles in Time," & "Banjo Kazooie" are $30 or $40! The VC looks like a bargain compared to that.

@Darknyht Well, there is an upside to fixed console prices. They'd probably charge more for "more advanced" games like SMB3 like $6 or $8 if they did that.
Personally, I don't wanna pay $6 for the Zelda Gameboy Color games, that's why I only got them when they were in temporary discount sales. Seems more like a rip paying more for a game, just because it's popular.
I will admit the $3 or $4 pricing for simpler GameBoy titles are nice though. Still, lower prices might not work for third-party games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st December (North America)

Beau_Skunk

@Darknyht
Well, "scam" is a bit harsh considering, VC came out before they decided to make the Mini NES.
Still, $5. for an NES game is still much cheaper then the $20. GBAdvance versions they used to have in the 2000s decade, or the $50. games they had back in the '80s & '90s. Some forget games back then were no cheaper then today's games.
Even used NES & SNES cartridges in some stores can get expensive if they're a rare, or popular game, and many of those don't work well unless you clean their connectors with Q-tips, or something.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st December (North America)

Beau_Skunk

@Darknyht I've never seen Wii games that cheap used. They usually go for $10/$15 or more depending on the area. So yeah, $20 is a bit much, seeing as the Wii is 10 years old now.
At least, there's occasional discount sales on the Eshop. Got "Kirby Return to Dreamland" half price from the current black Friday sale. (Which ends on Dec. 5th.)

@Joeynator3000
You can play them on the TV, can't you? Depends on which screen setting you're using.

Re: My Nintendo Gets Plenty of Legend of Zelda Goodies in North America

Beau_Skunk

They just had to do this, after updating their site to make it unable for me to view it on my WiiU browser... (My PC is busted currently, so WiiU is my only way to browse the internet currently. Anyone else in a similar situation?)

Why make their sites unable to be viewed on their console's browsers? That makes NO sense!

Re: My Nintendo Rewards Site Gets A Fetching Facelift

Beau_Skunk

I hate it, because my computer's busted, and it says I can't access it now on my WiiU, the only way I can HAVE internet currently now.

It's bad enough Nintendo.com looks messed up on the WiiU browser now, because you can't close the drop down menu on it. Nintendo seriously... Why make websites that CAN'T WORK for your consoles? That makes NO SENSE!
Not everyone HAS a smart device, or PC, Nintendo! Gah!

Re: Nintendo Making "Great Effort" To Support Third Parties On Switch, Claims Take-Two Boss

Beau_Skunk

@MadAdam81 According to Grant Kirkhope, Nintendo actually pays other companies for each copy of games they make, so if anything Nintendo probably lost more money then they did, assuming that's still their policy.
As I said I only "partly" blame third-parties, I feel Nintendo, the consumers/gamers, the media, and other things also contributed to the WiiU's unsuccess.

Also, "more powerful" doesn't always mean it's easy to develop for. The N64 was one of the most powerful consoles of it's generation, but it was very difficult to develop for, due to it's power, yet limited cartridge storage for game data. This is why Nintendo started making their consoles less powerful then the competition.

Honestly, I just got a WiiU a year back, so I'm not interested in upgrading to Switch yet, plus if it is indeed more powerful then a WiiU, then that means it'll probably be more expensive, and have a short battery life in portable mode like most modern electronics. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Re: Ubisoft Director Says Nintendo Switch May Unite the Casual and Hardcore Gaming Audiences

Beau_Skunk

@SakuraHaruka Yeah, I dislike the terms too, they divide gamers & games too much. As a result the so-called "hardcore" gamers fear anything "casual," (even looping stuff like "Mario" into that category) and they gave Nintendo a stigma for focusing on the casual crowd during the Wii era that they can't seem to shake no matter how many "hardcore" games they make. Nintendo kinda shot themselves in the foot inventing those terms, as it's given them an unfortunate stigma, and I doubt they'll ever win back the hardcore crowd whom like the gritty games on rival consoles.

Yes, I'm aware WiiU & 3DS have many gritty games too, (and even the "cute" games have their edgy/darker moments, just look at Kirby) but try telling others that...

Re: Nintendo Making "Great Effort" To Support Third Parties On Switch, Claims Take-Two Boss

Beau_Skunk

I have a feeling third-parties are just going to eventually abandon it, like they did the WiiU. I partly blame them for the WiiU's unsuccess.

Nintendo can't shake this stigma EA, and other "mature game developers" give them that they're only for "babies," their consoles don't "have enough power/graphix," are "bad revenue for third-parties," (despite all the third-party games in top selling Wii, DS, WiiU, and 3DS monthly sales charts) and such.
Bob Summerwhill of EA Sports himself said we Nintendo fans aren't a "worthwhile market like Mobile, and such."

I hate to be cynical, but I doubt Nintendo will ever win over the third-parties who prefer the more "powerful/mature" consoles.
