About The Game
Blaster Master Zero is an action-exploration game done in an 8-bit top-down & side-view style that hearkens back to the golden age of the NES.
Using the original 1988 NES title "Blaster Master" from Sunsoft as a base, Blaster Master Zero has many new additions, such as new areas and bosses, new gameplay elements such as extra sub-weapons, improved gameplay, a more robust scenario, refined and expanded exploration mechanics, and more.
In the near future on Earth, a young man named Jason Frudnick boards the battle vehicle SOPHIA III and sets off on an adventure in the subterranean depths of the planet.
On the side-view maps, take control of SOPHIA III and explore your surroundings as you search for the entrance to the dungeon where the area's boss lurks.
Once you find the dungeon entrance, exit SOPHIA III and make your way inside as Jason and take on the mutants inside in top-down mode.
Defeat the mid-bosses and area bosses to acquire new items, sub-weapons, upgrades to SOPHIA III and Jason's equipment, and new abilities and move to the next area.
What awaits Jason at the end of his long adventure...?

I really like Inti Creates games overall, but they usually are at their best as a second-party developer. Mega Man Zero and ZX still remain my all-time favorites of theirs, at least until this one came along. So far, everything looks well-crafted — controls are much nicer, gameplay is pretty much the same except for Jason's expanded gun options — that alone eases a lot of the unforgiving challenge of the original BM. Clever use of save points instead of lives also eliminates a lot of the frustration of the original — no more Game Over restarts. If you have any interest in Blaster Master or good retro-style action shooters, you should not hesitate to buy this game.
I loved Blaster Master on the NES! I look forward to a review of this one
I love it, I even like the Shantae DLC. Maybe I'll get the Shovel Knight DLC too.
Having not played the original, this is a pretty fun unique game with both 2d side scrolling and top down action, though I think this may be better on pc or switch as the characters are quite small even on a New 3ds XL and unfornately there's no 3d in this game, but it's good having a convenient handheld version to play.
I think a 7.9 user rating is appropiate for this game at time of posting, may try and pick up the GBC BM game or even the original NES BM on the 3ds virtual console before eshop closes.
