Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time

AussieMcBucket

I wasn't so bothered by $40 each. It's what the Wii release prices were, at least. But I did forget about the VC prices. That hurts a bit. Yet, as was stated, these are enhanced versions of the game. I'm a little circumspect about the added features, but oh well. I'd probably pick up 2 at least. I already have 3D All-Stars. Unless the enhancements for 1 prove to be worth it.

Sidebar: What I really want them to do is unchain Bowser's Fury from that bundle. I completed 3D World in its entirety - minus the (for me) insanely difficult last level - why would I buy the ENTIRE game again just to have the extra content? I never understood why they didn't also offer it as DLC. I've heard it's really cool too, but I can't bring myself to make that purchase.

And it's $30. That story content better be pretty substantial - that's half the price of the base game!

But I disagree about this being cut content. They may have wanted to wrap up the game, but they had more ideas. So, they decided to continue working on developing further content for the game past the release date.

And telling us now about it gives us a heads-up that we can expect further support past the endgame. Wasn't everyone asking for that with Mario Kart World...?

I feel like many people are being quite fickle. We want DLC. Then we don't want DLC. Then we want it for free. Geez. I mean, I don't think Nintendo has done a great job navigating all this stuff so far, but I feel like the community is generally being a large sourpuss about everything. Work costs money. Prices are what they are. Capitalism sucks. But we can be unhappy about things and not criticize every decision or announcement that is made. Besides, I'm sure many people are genuinely excited about everything (all at once or individually) and would like to engage in some positive discussion about it. Maybe we all could whine a little less?

@sixrings That would be cool. I still haven't gotten Wonder, so it would be a good version to grab.

Oh, you think more Showtime? I mean, that would be cool. They should support their "other" titles more and help them grow.

I still haven't played my copy of Crafted World. 😅

Hahaha. Are you talking about 1000-Year Door? Also on my backlog. 😖

@FlyingDunsparce I really appreciate your level-headed response, and you explained your position quite well to wear I now see where you are coming from, too. Particularly since I think mine was a bit more antagonistic than it should have been. My apologies.
It is an interesting debate to have. I know I sometimes get confused or disappointed when a game that was previously given a 10/10 gets a re-release and winds up with an 8 or something. Obviously there are other factors at play, like different reviewers or different sensibilities in a contemporary evaluation, but I am sometimes left feeling like, "This is a 'perfect' game, why knock it down a peg?" That feels similar to what you're saying here. So the game is being evaluated for what it offers now, with a score being given to reflect their opinion on that. I suppose their "Joys" and "Cons" system - for which I love the pun, by the way - doesn't give us much specific insight into how every component was rated. For all we know, the "4" represents an "Outstanding" rating for the presentation and the package. And everything else was utter crap. Ha. I guess that's why it's also useful to read the written review, where an explanation is often given for their thought process. Here, they did commend the developers on the presentation. It sounds like it's just that the content is so bad, it makes the competent production seem superfluous. Anyway, good chat. Your argument is valid.

Re: Review: Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection (Switch) - Limited Run Cleans Out The Kitty Litter

AussieMcBucket

@FlyingDunsparce You're saying it should have just been reviewed based on the competency of the presentation? Do you enjoy game collections for merely being an accessible collection of any games? Why would the games themselves not be factored into the review deliberation? Besides, the reviewer gave "pros" for all that stuff. My guess is the score would have been even worse without that level of commitment to the package.

Re: Ubisoft Releasing Star Wars Outlaws Switch 2 Demo "Later This Year"

AussieMcBucket

@Coffeeglitch Wait, because they're putting out a demo? Sure, if a person doesn't enjoy the demo, then they may decide not to buy the game. But you can also convert people who weren't intending to buy it before playing the demo.
I still think the more demos, the better. People might respect you more for not wasting their time and money on a gamble, too.

Re: Review: NBA 2K26 (Switch 2) - Brilliant B-Ball Has A Disappointing Debut On Switch 2

AussieMcBucket

@sixrings Oh, you were? I was replying to the FPS comment; I see you posted another.
But that's a reasonable complaint. Though maybe we don't have to be getting "inferior" versions. Maybe that's on the developers/publishers. Plus, I would argue that on previous portables, we generally got entirely different, downscaled versions of the other games. I'm not sure you could argue that they should knock $10 off the price for a lower frame rate. But I don't know, maybe.

Re: Review: NBA 2K26 (Switch 2) - Brilliant B-Ball Has A Disappointing Debut On Switch 2

AussieMcBucket

@sixrings That's probably a fair argument. But the lack of parity then becomes an issue, if not just in the coverage of it. Which then has repercussions for the perception and subsequent adoption of the title, as well as the console in general. And, as stated in the review, it then prevents access for Switch 2 users with cross-platform features. Which then leads to the same outcomes I just mentioned.

I really enjoy your reviews (and other articles). I like the conversational, narrative approach you use. And they're often quite funny! Plus, you're informative on what I feel is the important stuff to know, and it genuinely helps me with a decision on whether to acquire a game, besides also being just a good read. Thanks, and carry on!

I'm not all that interested in this game myself, but I also like to root for these types of cross-platform games on Switch 2. It's a bummer that they didn't offer those cross-platform features, as you mentioned. Do you expect that is Nintendo not playing nicely with others? Or the developers having limited access with the dev-kits? It's a shame that these types of things continue on this new console that they clearly want to stand taller alongside the others.
