Re: Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Announces Retirement

@Beetlebum91 Ohhh, of course. I knew that. I was stuck on business title acronyms.
No, it doesn't matter at all. That goes without saying. Hm, maybe it should go with saying. :/ But I also submit that it would still be different with a woman. I'm talking societal stigmas and prejudices. For an example, see how America elected Obama yet absolutely balked twice at a woman president. That's not a perfectly concrete bit of evidence, but I do think it matters. Heck, black men were allowed to vote (at a diminished representation) before any women were given the constitutional right.

I think we all ought to appreciate that Fils-Aimé and Iwata were a rarity in any company. They shared a very close and good-working relationship, and they were both very public-facing with big, charming personalities. That is atypical. I miss it too, but I'm not sure we should knock others for not being them. Adjust our expectations for leadership in business? Sure! But Doug Bowser probably did his job well, just not in the way that his predecessor did.

@Suketoudara You're making some interesting observations. You could be right about the PR situation. But I'm not sure Japan has the secret fix for America's issues. No offense to them. I just think there may be some cultural differences, particularly in business.
And yeah, when I clicked the link you shared, I saw who this guy is. He always seemed cool with Europe. So maybe it will be overall a positive thing. Obviously we're all just speculating.

I enjoyed the interjections from what I assume are various characters' phrases in the game. 😂
This looks good, and they are really committing to the remakes with additions and enhancements! I had a ton of fun with the demo for IX, but that's pretty much the only DQ I've played. I'm thinking maybe I should check out III (the first, as I understand it) at some point.

Re: Mailbox: Switch Game Pricing, Shovelware, Self-Nerfing - Nintendo Life Letters

Great response to the first letter. Thank you for explaining how commerce works.

I feel like many of us are reacting to these things with a very self-focused perspective. Perhaps a lot of us here bought and played the 3D All-Stars Collection on Switch, but there are probably a lot of people that have also never played it. That collection was a limited-time thing, besides, as we are well aware. So to them, a 70 USD package with two of the best Mario games ever (a somehow meaningful and meaningless distinction at the same time) is amazing value. At least Nintendo is offering them separately. It seems to me that we could all do well to remember that Nintendo is not making decisions for each of us as individuals.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Reminds Me Of Gears 5, And It's Making Me Nervous

"A bit more information?" I think you mean ANY information. I think the only thing we've learned about the game, aside from gleaning some things from footage, is that she has psychic powers. And that's basically all we know about those, she has them.
I hope it gets an individual Direct and we see a big marketing push for the holidays, because man, right now it feels like no wonder that Metroid games don't reach massive sales numbers.

Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer

@HammerKirby It's also the cost of physical marketing, and companies pay for retail space and displays and all that. Packaging, licensing, etc. Not just the cartridges proper. It's the same in principle for physical discs.
It's way too much. It's soured the whole thing in many ways. I'm waiting for it to die down, so we can all get to enjoying things. The Switch 1 had a fair amount of positivity for a Nintendo console - for once - until its later years, and then the complaints about inferiority grew even more widespread and louder.

@HammerKirby Yes, that is true. I just think that people can be endlessly insatiable. Perhaps that's redundant. I see it a lot in the gaming community. I think this person's comments are meant to explain the business side of GKCs. Obviously, it will upset many consumers, though I don't think that was his goal. Still, I think the outrage about this is dramatically out of proportion.
