@Starius65 But they already made whatever money off of it. It wouldn't need their supervision anymore. Unless I don't understand these things properly.
I'm surprised to learn that this game required servers to play. I tried it out a little, years ago. Could they not just turn this into an offline-only game?
What if in this movie, they fly by the world with Hyrule, and we see it in "live action" with the people we've seen from the Zelda movie production shots?
I'm psyched for all of this. Plus, you buried the lead here, Nintendo Life. Nintendo IS making another 3D Mario game! Our prayers have been answered! It was really touch-and-go there for a while.
@N8tiveT3ch I know, that's also what ChatGPT told me when I asked it about the state of the video game industry. I'm having it write me a paper on the topic for my class. Seems like a good topic.
I wonder why everything got different price jumps. Especially the Pro, which increased by 200 USD. I guess supply is lower, so they're expecting to sell far less, anyway.
The real question will be what these prices return to, assuming that does happen at some point in the future.
Great review, thank you! It's reviews like this that actually make me interested enough in checking out a game such as this one that I otherwise really had no knowledge of or care for.
@JumpingJackson @DennyCrane I agree that we are in the new generation now. There's no obligation to release games for the previous console. We got 8+ years with it. I figure this feels a bit conflicting for some since this is available as an upgrade to the base game, which was on S1. Makes it seem still connected to S1.
@DennyCrane Thanks for sharing. I'm still incredulous. I'm nearly 40 and have never come across this. Maybe someone can find videos of this pronunciation in the wild. I'm pretty sure Nintendo has always read it as "brothers."
I'm glad they released a demo. I'm not sure this game will be for me, so it's nice to be able to give it a try and confirm one way or the other. It's interesting to see them go over what Miis are in this, as someone who has experienced them since the Wii era.
@DennyCrane What language do you speak and/or in what region do you hail from? I have literally never heard "Bros." pronounced in that way. I'm in Ohio, USA. But never in any media of any kind. Maybe "bra", but I think THAT was the slang and more of a different way to say "bro" as in "pal" or "dude", not their way of pronouncing "B-R-O."
Thanks for the review. I'm assuming the multiplayer attractions can only be played online with friends? It sounds like from what you said, only a handful of the attractions are even accessible online. Like Super Mario Party or whichever that was. That's a real shame. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after that MP game. But also, adding matchmaking and possibly leader boards or something would probably go a long way with building engagement for these additions. Too bad.
@Misima Precisely! I'm not sure we're gonna realize that until after it happens. We're going to wake up outside of the house and discover that they stole our keys. It's how we "respond" to most other things. Though again, some of that is by design.
@CaptainQuo Oh yeah, nailed it. And we keep accepting these lower and lower standards for our elected officials. Partly because they're (sometimes) the only options we are given. We - I say "we" as a member of the US populace - remain woefully uninformed and nonparticipating. And no, ignorance and inaction are not all our own doing. There are lots of forces pushing us to those outcomes. But we have to keep pushing back.
@Nanoline52 Ha! Yes, exactly. I just wrote something about this. Though Nintendo Life is almost certainly just trying to maintain some civility on its website.
@johnedwin This "war" affects a lot of things. International relations, oil prices, trade routes. As I understand it, the Strait of Hormuz, which is being blockaded, is a critical shipping route for many things. For instance.
@johnedwin @Smithicus Yeah, politics IS the discussion. And I wish we'd stop separating it from things as if it's some special entity we only bring up in certain situations. It's everything. And nothing. It's just used as a tool to confuse and divide and anger us. This is just life. It affects all/many of us.
@Teksette No different than lawyers finding loophole after loophole to get their clients out of things or absolved of guilt. Which is what is happening here. But also, they are often just (sometimes openly) floating the law and more or less daring others to challenge them. Congress is supposed to be the biggest check on them. They are not upholding their oath to the Constitution either. And that is by design. The Republicans also know that they have better chance with SCOTUS and the lower courts, because they have worked for years to stack them in their favor. Laws are not self-actuating, they require someone to enforce them or challenge the behavior. You know, if you steal something, someone would have to become aware of the crime, investigate it, charge you, and convict you. You don't just get beamed into prison at the point of theft. Or the injured party may choose not to charge you at all. Anyway, this sort of gives the illusion that the government is running, and there's nothing that can be done about it. But it is being severely corrupted. And we (US citizens) can always do something about it. It is our government. We are it.
@BaldB3lper78 Yes, but. He is no mastermind. The government is executing a plan that has been in the works for a long, long time. They already have been. Trump fires from the hip, but the strategizing is happening from inside the house (House?) and elsewhere.
What the... I thought this was a Nintendo news website. Not a news about Nintendo website...
Kidding.
Thank you for this thorough explanation and analysis. Here's the other thing: If or when the CBP pays back these companies, the government will almost certainly take the money from somewhere else that further harms more vulnerable people, or everyone that isn't extremely wealthy. And, I would not be surprised if Trump & Co. decides to retaliate against these companies by imposing more tariffs. Which, as described in the article, ultimately affects the consumers, one way or another. Glad we keep allowing this behavior and economic structure and electing people that support these ridiculous and harmful ideologies and systems.
Oh, and good to know that the US government does know how to make reparations to wronged parties!
I think releasing a console in the middle of all this is difficult. Prices have increased. The industry is consolidating. People have less disposable income. And yeah, maybe many people are waiting to see what's around the corner before diving into Switch 2. And it is a pricey new console, particularly when compared to its "younger sibling": Switch 1. People may not inmediately recognize a reason for giving their current Switch an apparent $500 upgrade. It also got a lot of (I think overblown and unfair) criticism out of the gate, which hurts it outside of early adopters. Anecdotally, nearly everyone I have spoken to about it gave me the reflex responses we see in all the comments sections - "too expensive", "no games", "nothing different", "greedy", etc. None of these are really that new of complaints, but still. Oh, and The Great Game-Key Card Debate.
As for why we have a lighter slate of first-party titles so far and into the future, I believe Nintendo is experiencing the same slowdown they experienced with the jump to Wii U development. They're making potentially 4K titles now. It's probably an adjustment that they underestimated. And Nintendo tries to bring game development to a natural conclusion before release. The S2 Editions are most likely meant to fill in the gaps and help sales of current titles. It's also very possible that silicon costs and trade wars (as well as hot wars) have affected all of this. I don't know how they couldn't.
I just think we have to be patient. There are tons of amazing games for the console, even ones that are not also on Switch 1. And there'll be lots of fun yet, I'm sure. But I also think the times they are a-changin'.
@HingryHuppo I guess you're right. I was trying to 100% all the games. Although, I'm realizing now that will be impossible once I start getting to even like, Galaxy 2 or something. Some of those "extra" levels they throw in are insanely hard (for me)! Although with 64, I really want to get Yoshi or whatever you get for all the stars spoiler. I got stuck because I decided that maybe I should also complete the time limit stars and red coins or whatever. I think it's the rainbow/moving platform level. Whew.
@HingryHuppo Yeah, it's cool to do this. It gives you a better sense of the evolution of a series, which is harder to see as you live it in real time. I was doing that with Mario, but I got stuck in 64.
Thank you for this! I've really only ever played 4. Finished it, was great. And I want to get Requiem, but I was considering playing through the series. Oh, and Revelations on 3DS. I should go finish that.
Fun! And mouse mode! I wonder if the music player is just a standalone mode or if you can listen to the tracks while you solve the puzzles. Or maybe certain tracks play for their respective boards?
@Olliemar28 Oh, I didn't see this comment before I made mine. And yeah, I get it. Too bad. But, as you say, you can only do what you can do. It'd be hard to keep up. The little note is actually helpful! Thanks!
I thought you guys had revisited reviews in the past? Oh well. I assume that, based on the issues you cited in your conclusion that resulted in an "(Average) 5" score, these improvements would give the score a nice bump. So, this game sounds like it's worth playing now!

@MoldyPasta Hahaha, I would never. Though you did just give me a good idea for my next listing on eBay.

@mmarkster Ah, okay. Must be a pretty big jump over the lower tier!

@kurtasbestos It's because they hate us and just want our clicks.

Re: PS5 Gets An Insane Price Increase – Will Nintendo Follow Suit?
@N8tiveT3ch XD I don't touch the stuff. Seems so strange to me.
Re: Fox McCloud's Voice Actor For The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Has Been Confirmed
Oh snap, this seems like a good choice. That reveal video was also hilarious.
Wouldn't it be funny if they distorted his voice like in the 64 game though? XD
