Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup In Bellabel Park - Inessential Bells & Whistles

Thanks for the review. I'm assuming the multiplayer attractions can only be played online with friends? It sounds like from what you said, only a handful of the attractions are even accessible online. Like Super Mario Party or whichever that was. That's a real shame. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after that MP game. But also, adding matchmaking and possibly leader boards or something would probably go a long way with building engagement for these additions. Too bad.

@CaptainQuo Oh yeah, nailed it. And we keep accepting these lower and lower standards for our elected officials. Partly because they're (sometimes) the only options we are given. We - I say "we" as a member of the US populace - remain woefully uninformed and nonparticipating. And no, ignorance and inaction are not all our own doing. There are lots of forces pushing us to those outcomes. But we have to keep pushing back.

@Teksette No different than lawyers finding loophole after loophole to get their clients out of things or absolved of guilt. Which is what is happening here. But also, they are often just (sometimes openly) floating the law and more or less daring others to challenge them. Congress is supposed to be the biggest check on them. They are not upholding their oath to the Constitution either. And that is by design. The Republicans also know that they have better chance with SCOTUS and the lower courts, because they have worked for years to stack them in their favor. Laws are not self-actuating, they require someone to enforce them or challenge the behavior. You know, if you steal something, someone would have to become aware of the crime, investigate it, charge you, and convict you. You don't just get beamed into prison at the point of theft. Or the injured party may choose not to charge you at all.
Anyway, this sort of gives the illusion that the government is running, and there's nothing that can be done about it. But it is being severely corrupted. And we (US citizens) can always do something about it. It is our government. We are it.

What the... I thought this was a Nintendo news website. Not a news about Nintendo website...

Kidding.

Thank you for this thorough explanation and analysis. Here's the other thing:
If or when the CBP pays back these companies, the government will almost certainly take the money from somewhere else that further harms more vulnerable people, or everyone that isn't extremely wealthy. And, I would not be surprised if Trump & Co. decides to retaliate against these companies by imposing more tariffs. Which, as described in the article, ultimately affects the consumers, one way or another.
Glad we keep allowing this behavior and economic structure and electing people that support these ridiculous and harmful ideologies and systems.

Oh, and good to know that the US government does know how to make reparations to wronged parties!

Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales

AussieMcBucket

@RBRTMNZ I agree with this.

I think releasing a console in the middle of all this is difficult. Prices have increased. The industry is consolidating. People have less disposable income. And yeah, maybe many people are waiting to see what's around the corner before diving into Switch 2. And it is a pricey new console, particularly when compared to its "younger sibling": Switch 1. People may not inmediately recognize a reason for giving their current Switch an apparent $500 upgrade. It also got a lot of (I think overblown and unfair) criticism out of the gate, which hurts it outside of early adopters. Anecdotally, nearly everyone I have spoken to about it gave me the reflex responses we see in all the comments sections - "too expensive", "no games", "nothing different", "greedy", etc. None of these are really that new of complaints, but still. Oh, and The Great Game-Key Card Debate.
As for why we have a lighter slate of first-party titles so far and into the future, I believe Nintendo is experiencing the same slowdown they experienced with the jump to Wii U development. They're making potentially 4K titles now. It's probably an adjustment that they underestimated. And Nintendo tries to bring game development to a natural conclusion before release. The S2 Editions are most likely meant to fill in the gaps and help sales of current titles. It's also very possible that silicon costs and trade wars (as well as hot wars) have affected all of this. I don't know how they couldn't.
I just think we have to be patient. There are tons of amazing games for the console, even ones that are not also on Switch 1. And there'll be lots of fun yet, I'm sure. But I also think the times they are a-changin'.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

@HingryHuppo I guess you're right. I was trying to 100% all the games. Although, I'm realizing now that will be impossible once I start getting to even like, Galaxy 2 or something. Some of those "extra" levels they throw in are insanely hard (for me)!
Although with 64, I really want to get Yoshi or whatever you get for all the stars spoiler. I got stuck because I decided that maybe I should also complete the time limit stars and red coins or whatever. I think it's the rainbow/moving platform level. Whew.
