Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

Ashunera84

It's easy to hate on Nintendo or TPC for this, but Palworld's developers have made a habit of copying other works a little too closely.

Maybe you dislike TPC... but what if their next game rips off Team Cherry, an ACTUAL small indie dev team? Oh, right, they are doing EXACTLY that.

IP protection needs to be strong in the creative space.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Costs $60 On Switch

@Bolt_Strike if the rest of the market is making luxury purchases without looking into it, clearly the money isn't a big deal for them. If the money is a big deal, they are likely to seek more information.

This is the best practice for a market. Set a price, give people information on the product, and let them decide. Nobody is being misled.

If you want to complain about monetization, there are plenty of games full of ads and loops meant to be addictive and predatory. This isn't such a case.

Re: The Pokémon Company Releases Official Statement About Palworld

The Pokemon Company will be fine, and I do suspect Pocket Pair will owe them some money and require some changes to similar monsters.

The issue is that this is a recurring thing for them. They've been more than just "inspired" by a couple other franchises for their games, and their next release copies from an indie dev, Team Cherry, who doesn't have the financial might of the Pokemon Company.

It is in the best interests of creators everywhere for Pocket Pair to be hammered hard for this.

Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'

@SpaceboyScreams it sounds an awful lot like you have exactly zero technical programming knowledge or any understanding of the use of assets and resources.

Breath/Tears have a tiny fraction of the high fidelity character models that Pokemon has. Pokemon devs may have made a mistake on prioritizing the mons themselves over the environment and frame rate, but if you want to have a pokemon game look like Breath of the wild, the number and quality of pokemon models is going to go down. Way down.

"if something like Palworld can release and run as well as it does, then there’s really no excuse anymore."

Palworld has 137 creatures.
Pokemon SV has 600 or more, and it's running on a toaster.

Are you SURE there is "no excuse"?

Come on, man, be honest.

The real questions might be how do the models compare and how many animations each one has, but at least act like you know something here.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Straight Up Fails In Just One Respect: Accessibility

Ashunera84

I empathize and wish Nintendo would do better. But it's definitely not simple, even if it seems many game developers are doing better.

1. It's expensive. It's a business. I'm doubtful most of these companies actually make money creating these features. (good on them for doing it anyway).

2. They add a lot to settings menus. This might not seem like a big deal, but for every setting is both a line of reading and a choice a player needs to make, giving them the opportunity to make the wrong choice or to miss something that is important to them. Diablo 4, lauded for its accessibility, is also a disaster in its settings with numerous things located in several areas and it can be difficult to find what you're looking for.
