"A toggle option like this existed for targeting enemies in all of the 3D Zeldas pre-dating Skyward Sword but it was removed for absolutely no reason." Just because you don't know the reason does not mean there isn't one. There might be one. There might even be a good one.
Accessibility is great, but it absolutely can and often does come at significant detriment to the game. That's not to say they shouldn't make these efforts, but they do come at a cost, financial, gameplay experience or both.
@Nancyboy copyright laws and rulings affect everyone with an IP. Copyright law protects Nintendo and Microsoft, but it also affects the independent writer or artist just trying to get by. Weakening copyright laws specifically related to fictional IPs actually hurts the little guy far more than the big corporations. Nintendo will still get by, the little guy might not.
@SonOfDracula those sites are up because they provide a service to users. You are not required to use other people's IPs to post to YouTube, Twitch, or whatever.
Content relating to any game that uses game assets that financially damage the company by providing its content to others, or for profit for an unaffiliated individual is, again, a privilege. These companies are allowing them to do it. They do and should retain the right to submit copyright claims if they see fit to do so.
This is not complex stuff. The fact that you do not know this common information is a failure on your part. Copyright basics are taught in elementary school.
@SonOfDracula the logic I'm using is what would apply to you if you found yourself in court for not following these rules. If you can't understand that despite your overwhelming degree of self confidence, that's not on me.
Atlus owns the Persona IP. If you use the Persona IP to either damage the Persona IP or profit without their express consent, you are required to follow their rules. This is true of all media. Paintings, movies, books, TV, video games.
The logic is very basic. If a streamer is removed from this process, very few people really care. If the game is removed from the process, the streamer's product has no value. The streamer is quite literally and directly relying on an IP they do not own for traffic. You can try to explain away this fact, but a fact it remains. Streamers have a privilege, not a right.
And yes, screenshots etc. Are typically owned by the IP holder. Most IP-holders don't enforce their ownership outside extreme cases, but a review site like this will usually be restricted from posting certain content as a part of their legal agreement to be allowed a review copy resulting review.
@SonOfDracula you pay to play, not use the software as you see fit.
Streaming absolutely is using the work of those you're streaming. It may not be a 1:1 broadcast, but you ARE using their work, and potentially benefiting from it.
If you're not benefiting, and you're not causing harm to the IP-holder, it probably falls under fair use in most jurisdictions. If you make anything off the streaming, however, most of the rights shift back to the IP-holder. Most game companies have simply recognized responsible streaming doesn't harm their product, but can and should remain able to impose restrictions like this.
@WhiteUmbrella you are paying for the right to PLAY the game, you do not own its contents. I reiterate - the fact that you are allowed to play it before a public audience at all, nevermind actually make money by doing so, is a privilege.
The right to broadcast publicly typically costs several orders of magnitude more money than the right to view/use personally throughout almost all forms of media. Public broadcast of any media can cost the IP-holder massive amounts of money.
The gaming streamer community would do well to remember they are using someone else's property without their express permission to make money. In most fields, this is plagiarism or theft.
If you're using their IP for your content, you get to abide by their rules. It's like that with every other media platform, why would streamers be exempt?
Being able to use someone else's work directly without paying them is a privilege as it is.
@nocdaes this is just catering to the publisher. "Meeting deadlines" simply is not always possible in software development. Software development is more complex than anything any publisher has ever had to do. Publishers absolutely must find ways to be more flexible or they'll only hurt themselves (and in this case may just outright destroy the publisher).
Hopefully this is enough to get polished releases for the franchise in the future.
The game under the technical mess is amazing, and so was Arceus. From a game content standpoint, these were both stellar releases. It's just time to start putting some polish on it before releasing.
Nintendo has always been incredibly protective of its internal events. There have been a number of people fired for making any comments about the process, and that tweet absolutely could violate an NDA and result in a firing.
While I support unions when they ask for better wages or better working conditions, many will protect terrible employees even to the detriment of other employees.
This is almost guaranteed to be a miscommunication. The Pokemon Company almost certainly believed they were asking to use third party software for a nuzlocke run. Modified versions of the game exist for this purpose, and that absolutely is akin to a ROM hack.
Good grief, miscommunication happen WITHOUT language barriers all the time. Imagine how it is when 2 languages are as different as Japanese and English?
The Callie and Marie amiibo do NOT require finishing story mode for the armor replicas. They are available immediately. Edit - maybe this is due to importing Splatoon 2 data?
Pearl and Marina will only give you one piece at a time. I believe the second and third pieces unlock by using them again after reaching specific levels but I can't confirm. Shoes come first.
Inkling Girl (Splatoon 1) gives:
Squid Hairclip
School Uniform A (skirt)
School Uniform B (no skirt)
School Shoes + HI Socks
Base School Shoes
Gives 5 pieces total, but both versions of each slot provide the same primary bonus.
@Matroska the placebo effect is thinking you're getting a cure and your health improving as a result, even if it's just sugar. Smash going from 30 to 60, for the extreme vast majority, is just a sugar pill. Maybe pros can actually tell the difference.
Most people here don't have degrees or experience in server engineering, and are basing opinions on something they have almost zero understanding of, which isn't a great idea.
Tick rate can also be low when the information calculated/transferred is high. Ink cover status is probably a much larger amount of info than what happens in most shooters.
@vio it's only a thing to people who think they know more than they actually know, and want a reason to crap on Nintendo. Then there's news sites who like the revenue that comes from inciting people.
And those who think they notice a difference should look into the placebo effect.
@Rika_Yoshitake it happens 16 times a second. You can tell the difference between a fraction of a 16th of a second and a fraction of say a 30th of a second?
Unova starters sucked, but it had a lot of great new mons, including finally giving some variety for bug pokemon. Hydreigon and Haxorus are the best dragons IMO. Galvantula, Ferrothorn, Mandibuzz, Chandelure, Zoroark, Golurk? Sinnoh needs to be dropped to the bottom and Unova moved way up.
November 23, 2004 - World of Warcraft launched. Fall of 2014 - Blizzard sends commemorative statues to everyone who had maintained a subscription for the game's entire lifespan (allowing for about 3 months of downtime).
While there is certainly a problem - one that is often self destructive like Cyberpunk 2077 - it has nothing to do with laziness, and everything to do with inflexible deadlines set by executives with no expertise in software development.
Persona 4 is all well and good, absolutely a quality game, but 3 is a timeless classic, possibly the most emotionally gripping story in video game history. And I'm not saying this with rose colored glasses - I played it through for the first time recently. It can stir the hearts of the most stoic among us.
IGN and Polygon don't seem to understand MH is intended to be a 400 hour experience that a persistent community is built around, not a 40 hour experience. A very broad endgame experience (not unlike an MMO) is what draws me to it, yet they penalize the game for it. I'd really prefer Capcom NEVER listen to their reviews.

Hesitant to refer to any roguelike as truly difficult, as the difficulty is brought on largely due to their random nature.
Dark Souls is just hard. Metroid Dread is just hard. And yeah, that 3D World level was absurd.
