@Mitch - I'm guessing they removed the basic, "free roaming" puzzle areas that broke up the dungeons and were a refreshing change of pace in Gates to Infinity?
Not bothering with this one. After the way Ingress went. Compete with the opposing team, compete with the guys on your team or your ability to do much will be stifled and compete with all the people with the best stuff preventing you from doing much of anything. Not to mention that community was fairly toxic at times. So I'll certainly keep away, nice that Nintendo has faith but I have none in Niantic.
These are some of my favorite games and I'm not entirely surprised to see some of the ins and outs of the combat system missed and seen as random. So I've listed what I remember for the combat system and where else the choice of version is going to affect. These are actually very good games and some of your choices not only can affect where you go and what you see but also which characters you get to know more about.
Battle system is actually quite beautiful. Shooting based parts highlight the enemy part they are going to target before you select them. Grappling or close range parts will attack the closest enemy to them when they reach the attach point. If an robot used an aim shot attack or berserker attack they can't dodge. If a robot uses a strike or berserker attack they can't block. Blocking causes the damage to go to the legs, then left arm, then right arm, never to the head and can reduce damage. If I recall correctly the damage will be transferred if blocked to the correct part in order in such away to prevent parts from breaking. Any grappling attack (strike or berserker) will hit randomly on a defenseless foe, where a shooting attack (shoot and aim shot) will hit the part they are trying to target. Medals have a built in aim of what enemy type parts they go after first. Side note: losing side loses a random part, this can be once you after have two or more medabots (only having one and losing causes gameover) that are functional, this can be a part you can never get again, eg. your starting parts.
Medals have particular parts that they go better with. Eg. Shooting and if with the correct parts or if they have more skill in that type of parts from the 8 different types, the dodging and ability to defend is better. Having both is best and that's where the version becomes more vital. Metabee version contains shooting based medals primarily for attacking, where as Rokusho is pirmarily grappling with status based and defensive tricks mostly being shared. Which pretty much affects what style of combat your going to play and likewise what kinds of strategies you'll find work best for you.
I found the level a little on the easy side but I've pushed through Expert 100 Mario Challenge, so my thoughts might not be as important. I think a little bit of crazy and fresh but keeping things fun is the goal when building. A lot of my stages have 30% clear rates so I got to work on the difficulty still.
Only two kinds of levels I can't stand are troll levels with the thomps that'll kill you for stopping but you can't see and invisible blocks that kill you if you don't jump just so. The other being automatic Mario, sure they look cool but I want to play, so I made my own and part way through I have you pick up the controller and actually play a chunk of level of basic level or die, with a hidden route that lets you finish playing a real level, if not, automatic Mario continues.
I look forward to seeing more indie level features.
I'm not a big of fan of glitches these days but a shot at Celebi I might have to take. I wonder about getting mew... Could try what my brother did in yellow I guess
Going to miss him. Played Balloon Fight last night. This week I'm catching up on Iwata asks. I got my phone set to remind me to play Balloon Fight around this time next year, sad days though.
I have been but until recently I had space issue on the Wii U. Also I'm not about to dive into an studio's game that I have no back ground knowledge about quality until I hear more about it, mostly reviews and money is tight.
I'll likely pick it up, the reaction is over blown for sure. Doesn't look the best but looks at least to be fun. besides, an expansion in a Nintendo Universe is likely a good thing, a great way to pull in or introduce new elements that can't be done through the traditional route. I'll look forward to this one to some degree and happily await the next time Samus is the main character of a Metroid title.
I'm more happy to hear I guessed right that Sylux was chasing Samus at the end of Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. Then the rest of the message but I think Federation Force will be a fine title. Good to hear more is still coming for the Prime series and maybe this title will have a hunters like mode.
Not bad e3. I'm not pumped but happy enough. I'm actually kind of happy Metroid is getting a bit of a universe expansion, though I would have liked a new Metroid announced along side it.
