One of the highlights of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event was the amazing puppets of Satoru Iwata, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto - and the trio of Star Fox characters, Fox, Peppy and Falco.
The quality of the puppets led many to speculate that the world-famous Jim Henson company was involved - the guys behind The Muppets - and this has since been confirmed:
Our very good friends over at Eurogamer have compiled all of the puppet segments into one handy video, in case you need reminding of how great they were:

Hands-down best moment of the whole presenatation
For some reason I was expecting Star Fox to have muppets in the little communication windows - like Epic Yarn, Wooly World, Muppet Fox!
PIGS IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE
A confirm is always nice, even if I had no doubt those were Muppets' Puppets.
But I admit I still have an hard time believing we witnessed a "crossover" between Muppets and Nintendo XD
It was the best part of the DE. So good job guys.
The Muppets' creator died many years ago. The Jim Henson Company sold off the rights to Disney in 2004.
@BJQ1972 The Jim Henson company still exists, and it created these puppets.
@Damo I thought Disney owned the Jim Henson Company too, but apparently not - Disney just owns the Muppets.
Still, the Robot Chicken one was better. For one moment I thought these were from Crank Yankers 😜
I expected nothing less. Mr. Miyamoto's hair was scary realistic. I almost wonder if it was stolen off of the top of his head, and he is running around bald somewhere.
I re-watched the opening of the Digital Event today and further appreciated the quality of the puppets and acting. Really cool to see Nintendo going the distance in that respect
It's a real shame that his work is now connected with Nintendo's lackluster presentation
@antonvaltaz
Pretty much. The Jim Henson Company sold off the rights to the Muppets to Disney in 2004 but the company itself remains independent.
The puppet scenes were fun, but I found that while Iwata and Miyamoto voice the puppet versions of themselves, it was a bit distracting that Reggie didn't. Would've been more consistent if either all three were on board or they all had different voices. But that's just me nitpicking.
I love those Muppet scenes, they were so well done. It makes me wonder what they'll do next year.
@cookiex I thought Disney bought the Jim Henson Company from the German owners, I didn't realise the Henson family got the company back and then sold the Muppets - or maybe I did but forgot.
Best part of the event by far!
@EverythingAmiibo That's going a little far. The presentation wasn't amazing but you don't have to trash it and everything connected to it in every news article.
@antonvaltaz @Damo @BJQ1972
I belive the Jim Henson company is now owned and run by his daughter. The Muppets 'brand' was sold to Disney so they could continue to make the Muppets movies etc.....
Knew they had to be Muppets, anybody can make puppets but these MOVED like Muppets. Very fast jerry motions like they've been doing for 30 years.
The downside is - b/c, you know, the NDE needed more downside - was no Muppet game. The new series begins soon, I really thought there would be a tie game. I think a Muppet board game would have been less reviled than ACaF. Or a make your own TV show like LBP. People will be making Muppets in Dreams, I know I will.
Edit - Just realized we'll probably get Muppets in Disney Infinity if the show is well recieved. Man I hate those DI graphics, I don't want a square jawed Kermit or a box head Miss Piggy. Poor Han Solo, ugh.
HAH! I knew it!
I loved the puppets. It's too bad they're being overshadowed by the overall disappointment in the rest of the NDE.
The muppets were great but I wish they were backed up by decent game offerings not just a bunch of offshoot games. Those type of games would be ok if they were supplementing major entries. I see no need for an animal party game when we just had Mario party released. Why why why?
@JJtheTexan Yeah. At least something was good, and they deserve credit for that. Though I do admit I'm a little interested in that Fire Emblem title...
@garthvader People wanted a game that shows off amiibo, so they wont just be glorified figurine add-ons. People also wanted a Wii U Animal Crossing.
See where I'm getting here?
It's not surprising that the Muppets creators were behind them since the quality of the puppets were truly exceptional.
I really enjoyed the puppet sections and felt that they helped to add humour to the show and keep things interesting. Overall, I enjoyed the puppets section much more than the Robot Chicken style last year, even though both were great.
Excellent job by the Jim Henson Company (as usual)!!
I told you all during the live presentation "those are muppets not puppets!". Trust me i know my own kind when i see it.
@TheWPCTraveler
I think that's why so many of us are disappointed by Amiibo Festival. It is not an Animal Crossing game in the traditional sense. As others have said, we just got Mario Party. Plus, using the Amiibo just to "roll the dice" is a little underwhelming too. Like you said, it seems like Nintendo took what we said literally, or deliberately, about Animal Crossing and Amiibo and quickly churned out a game to cash in on it while knowing that is not what we were asking for. This game will probably do well anyway. We'll just have to lower our expectations and just enjoy whatever games come along that appeal to us.
@bezerker99 "This game will probably do well anyway"
No, it won't. We already have Nintendo Land, Wii Party (with) U, and Mario Party 10 plus the Wii Sports titles.
It doesn't appeal much to Animal Crossing fans, either.
Besides, I doubt this'll be sold like Happy Home Designer. It'll be free, most likely.
@Samuel-Flutter Probably something with CGI or animation
Absolutely loved the Muppets stuff.
like!
The only good thing in that presentation...
I don't understand all horrible presentation statements. nintendos presentauon was excellent. It seems there is a divide betwwn what Nintendo is doing and what e3 veiwers see. First thing, Nintendo doesnt seem to put priority to giving game information through e3. They made that clear when they opted out of full presentaions. Nintendo Direct was created to be the official channel of Nintendo information.
Personally, i think Nintendo should bail out of e3 to avoid all the confusion. However, as a gaming company they see the importance of having a presence, even a small on, at an entertainment expo. The miiverse, nintendo direct, and the former nintendo club surveys are the most reliable forms of communication Nintendo has. Most negative comment about nintendo games come from gamers that do not own Nintendo games or Nintendo hardware. E3 is not the dominant source of Nintendos true audience, hence programs like nindies@home and Best buy demo events. I see this years e3 event as a presentation for the dominant e3 goers... the 'others' so to say.
You can pretty much gaurantee that after e3 is done, the next Nintendo direct will have all the exciting news we as fans expect. I apologize in advance for any typos, I'm writing this from a cell phone. 😊
The muppets were top notch! Miyamoto popping out of a pipe(he had the best office as well), Iwata knocking Reggie out with a direct... the dancing... the banana meme! The star fox henshin segment had me on the floor! I really, really hope that nintendo will use them in future directs.
This is awesome. I was already sure this was made by the muppets creators by a confirmation is always nice. IMO this segments were better than the Robot Chicken sections of last year. I've never imagined Nintendo and Jim Henson company working together <3
@cookiex Wha? That was totally Reggie.
Definitely the highlight of the presentation. Which is...sad. But it was still cool. As you could probably guess, I'm a big Jim Henson/Muppet fan.
Loved the "Nuppets"
@TheWPCTraveler It's confrimed free, but you need 1 Amiibo or card per player.
Well I assume cards work. amazon lists a bundle which includes 2 Amiibo and 3 cards....
The muppets segment is awesome! Nintendo presentation in Digital Events is fine, but the games they are showing is questionable. They need to improve that next year, but with Zelda confirmed, surely next year will be better.
I hated the Muppets thing. Sorry to sound like such a downer, but the beginning went on for far too long. But the most infuriating thing about it, is that there would be a terrible announcement and then it would cut to a shot of them dancing. It was like a troll. A Nintendo TROLL. I nearly threw my laptop across the room.
I LOVED this part of the Event, and I hope we can see this return in 2016.
Best part of their E3 shenanigans.
@billychaos Couldn't agree more! I thought the Nuppets were just a bit too campy, though.
Best part of Nintendo's Direct by far. Twas all downhill after that, imo
Awesome puppets, though I find the Miyamoto-one a bit scary. He looks a bit to young. I can imagine some collectors hunting around the internet to get those puppets.
Though Nintendo maybe could have better spend that money on a proper 3D Metroid on Wii u or better Starfox-graphics!
