Re: Feature: 5 Times Sony Shamelessly Copied Nintendo

Not mention in the article is the PS3's Sixaxis controller, which was clearly a last minute tacked-on response to the Wii. I remember even seeing a photo of the circuit board, where the chip that does the motion detection is separated from the main board and connected by wire in a clear indication that it was not part of the original design.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

@Travan Your movie analogy is also off-base. The correct analogy would be a movie theater where you got to see movies for free, but it was barebones with no concession stand and a lower quality projection.

So now the theater tells you you must pay $20 a year to watch movies there. You ask them - in exchange for your money - if they'll be adding a concession stand and better quality projectors. And they say no. Then when you question that, overzealous theater-goers shout you down with terrible analogies about movie theaters.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

@HobbitGamer This is a terrible analogy. It assumes we will getting a better service (like dedicated servers) for our money, when in reality it will still be P2P online play.

A better analogy would be that you have been walking for free your whole life, now Nintendo comes along and says you need to pay $20 a year to walk. And if you question the value proposition of that offer, you get mobbed by fanatics screaming "IT'S ONLY 20 DOLLARS!!!!".

Re: My Nintendo Gold Points Can Be Used Towards Your Nintendo Switch Online Subscription

AlphaElite

@chardir From the article..

"Gold Points can be used when purchasing a membership in the Nintendo eShop. They cannot be used for auto-renewal."

"...cloud save data appears to be immediately lost if your subscription comes to an abrupt halt."

So if theoretically you want to pay solely with gold points, you have to let your subscription expire because they can't be used for auto-renew. And cloud saves are lost when a subscription ends (or at least, they provide no guarantee as to how long your saves will last after your subscription ends)

Re: Talking Point: It's September And We Still Don't Know Enough About Nintendo Online

AlphaElite

Seems to me like this whole thing is really just Nintendo wanting to charge for online play, and everything else is a tacked on afterthought in response to fan outcry over the fact that the service appeared to provide nothing of value for the money.

I genuinely believe that Nintendo's original plan was "now you have to pay for online pay" without any added bells or whistles. They did not expect the backlash that followed.

Re: Nintendo And ROM Website Owner Looking To Avoid Lengthy Court Proceedings

AlphaElite

"A longer case would be costly for the individual, while a shorter one would allow Nintendo to avoid what is being described as "theoretical negative precedents" being established by the court over a long-term period"

Sounds like Nintendo wants this lawsuit to end before they get to the discovery phase, where the defendant's lawyer could potentially convince the judge to order Nintendo to turn over documents. Not sure what Nintendo is trying to hide, but I think this is likely why they want the case to end soon.

Re: Nintendo's Recent Legal Action Against ROM-Sharing Sites Scares Major Player Into Removing Downloads

AlphaElite

This is how gaming history dies, to the sound of thunderous applause.

You are crazy if you think Nintendo will ever make their entire backlog available in some way. Cracking down on ROMs means many games will simply disappear in time. Physical media all eventually dies, and re-releases happen for only a small percentage of games ever released.

So yes, please keep on cheering.

@MagnaRoader You have to understand, the Nintendo Life rating system requires that any game not made by Nintendo automatically gets docked 1 star, whereas games by Nintendo automatically get an extra star.
