Every month we're amazed with how the Switch eShop leaps from strength to strength, and the month of September was absolutely no exception. With such an enormous roster of games released, this month was by far the hardest month we had to deal with for the awards, but we managed it. It's a nice problem to have.
But anyway, this video's late enough as it is (thanks to a certain video producer's poorly timed holiday), so let's get cracking.
Honourable Mentions:
- Thimbleweed Park - 8/10 in our review
- BUTCHER - 8/10 in our review
- NeuroVoider - 8/10 in our review
- PAN-PAN - 8/10 in our review

The Nintendo Life eShop Selects WINNERS - September 2017

Looking like a good selection. This month though, it's all about Odessey and Fire emblem warriors.
I'm guessing those are actually the September Winners?
Sparkle 2 is a decent Zuma style puzzler that came out in September.
Is mario odyssey out yet?
I think you mean September not August.
Glad to see Deemo on this list!
Deemo and SWD2 really deserve it. Man, 2017 is a really good year for gaming, huh.
NeuroVoider, BUTCHER, Thimbleweed Park, PAN-PAN, and Golf Story are all easy recommendations. Great additions to the Switch lineup and some good variety.
Nope.
I don't like at all from those titles given.
If we're all sure that golf story is highly unlikely to get a physical release then I'll download it this month
Golf Story is a blast, loved everything about it
At this point the issue I'm dealing with is too many heavy hitters on both sides. Usually when retail is low I stock up on indies but too much great stuff is coming out. I literally just lost a weekend to startdew and Dig 2 looks great for the 10 min. of it that I played. And I already have a retail backlog....this is a fantastic time to be a gamer/switch owner. I feel so bad for the rest of my systems....just collecting dust.
Loved SteamWorld Dig 2. It was even better than I expected. Got Deemo a week ago and it's quite good as well. Not my favorite rhythm game but I do like its art, story and gameplay. I can't fully judge its music selection yet since I haven't tried every song but I like most of the songs. There have only been couple that I didn't like at all. That's good for a game that has hundreds of songs to choose from.
I've really been enjoying Golf Story. Lots of fun
I think you mean mom's spaghetti and not August.
Steamworld Dig 2 has been one of my favorite games on the Switch. I recommend this to anyone.
@Fake-E-Lee Yoshi's Island is one of my most beloved games, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Steamworld Dig 2 is a definite winner. As much as I love the original Dig, Dig 2 is better in so many ways, and it just kept me playing an entire weekend until I had finished it. Of particular note is the music which is miles better than the music in Dig 1.
If I take the title off - could pass this as the iPad AppStore select list. It looks like a bunch of mobile games - Was it possible to put one more retro game in there.
Hmmmmm wonder what's gonna win this month?
I cannot stress how much fun Butcher is. Absolutely horrible... But oh so satisfying. 😂😉
Steamworld Dig 2 is sooo good!
I have to remember to get NeuroVoider!
@Fake-E-Lee I was getting right into The Velvet Underground around that time too. Funnily enough, Yoshi's Island is my all time favourite.
@Lukeim64 Butcher's going to be one of my next purchases. I might pick it up on Thursday along with Wulverblade.
@OorWullie It's so good. Kinda reminds me of a side scrolling Hotline Miami mixed with Quake? Amazed the Daily Mail hasn't run the usual "BAN THIS SICK FILTH" line on it.... 😂😝
@frogopus Complete agree. Has really restored my love in a good Indie after finding it all becoming a bit stale on Vita etc...
so many good games........oct 27 and nov 14..........all I'm waiting for.... saving them coins that those dates.
Just give me Odyssey already. I can't wait any longer.
Please Nintendo Life, could you for once not display the three winners on the main page / thumbnail?!!
It’d just be so nice going into the video not knowing what’s already won. Hmmmmph!
Butcher is fantastic game i really love it!
Interested in Golf Story and in Deemo but the price of the latter puts me off plus I own both Vita releases. Wonder if a physical Switch release is likely.
I bought Steamworld Dig 2. Have only played for 10 minutes since I'm trying to finish working through Mario+Rabbids first.
@Anti-Matter If you don't like Dig 2 then you are wrong.
I'm probably in a minority but I'd really rather prefer a summary to read than a video to watch.
I honestly don't know if I'll ever get any of those games, with Golf Story in particular. While the game looks good, $15 is a little too steep for me.
I did get a September eShop game, though. Brave Dungeon + Dark Witch's Story: COMBAT is good, despite its flaws.
@cmk8 Agreed.
I’m bloody loving Golf Story!
@Anti-Matter Why? I imagine you’d at least like Pan-Pan or SWD2 based on your past comments.
@cmk8 Yes! I’m tired of the videos too. At least we can see the winners without watching, though.
@ACK I'm very happy Golf Story is getting the love it's getting; I'm equally disappointed that Pan-Pan is getting so little. It's the perfect example of how to develop a budget title, and it deserves to be played by anyone who has an extra five dollars (or whatever the local currency is) in their eShop account.
@Indielink
Eh...
I'm not a fan of Steam punk 2D platformer.
Sorry, not so appeal for me.
Deemo has me intrigued, had overlooked it before but I really like the look of the game. Golf Story and Steamworld Dig 2 are already on my wish list.
@justin233
My thoughts of Pan Pan & Steamworld Dig 2 :
Pan Pan = Nah. Looked cheap in graphical. Not a fan of art style like that.
Steamworld Dig 2 = Um.... Not a fan of Steam punk 2D platformer like that.
I need Good First impression to determine which game is accepted and which game is rejected. In this case, I was not impressed at all. Sorry, i'm very pickier to choose decent titles.
@Anti-Matter Well, I think a huge number of people would say both of those “titles” are decent. To each their own, I guess, but you are missing out.
Got SteamWorld Dig 2 and Golf Story. Enjoyed the first Dig game, not so much with the second. Found it quite lacking in areas. Golf Story not yet finished, but enjoying it slowly. It was indeed a hidden title that seems to show some resemblance to Earthbound.
Didn't really know what Thimbleweed Park was. Now I know and might pick it up. As for Pan Pan, I actually missed this one. Going to get it now and start playing it. Looks good.
The other 3 games, got no interest in playing.
Seriously the switch is going to be a phenomenal success, people say it's too early to call? Not anymore.....Nintendo have learnt how to release a steady stream of games, and like doom and wolfenstein they have countless games up their sleeves. I hear many say what is there going to be in 2018 now?? I'm calling it now next year will be the best year for games. They are going to release some epic games. Also Nintendo I love u guys for releasing so many horror games for the switch already!
@PanurgeJr With you 100%. PAN-PAN is a gem, all at once charming and relaxing and perplexing. For only $5, it's one of the easiest recommendations for a rainy day game to practically anyone.
Sometimes it does seem the same few games are touted to excess and it becomes tiresome. There are plenty of other great games more fitting other tastes beyond the typical popular choices. Those games also deserve some attention, too, and honestly something like PAN-PAN may be a better choice over, say, Stardew Valley while being cheaper and less time consuming.
Bit of a tangent, but I feel sort of the same way about Volgarr right now, even though I know that game is niche by design. However, it fulfills that niche perfectly as a true arcade throwback with fantastic level design and compelling difficulty. Of course it gets no love with the gauntlet of games released alongside it, but for a select few I am sure it will be the most memorable.
I got Golf Story a couple hours ago, and I've been really enjoying it. However, SteamWorld Dig 2 is definitely game of the month for me, and one of my favorite games of the year.
butcher, neurovoider and steamworld dig 2 are outstanding
Is it just me or are there are a lot of these Switch eShop titles threads? Nintendo Life is becoming an advertising arm.
There's $100 worth of games on this list alone. I could easily drop $200-$300 on eShop games this year alone that I really want to play. It's been a damn good year to be a Switch owner.
I can't get any of these, I got Wolfenstein: The New order AND Old Blood for the PS4 in preparation for my Switch version of Doom.
Of course I'm getting the on-the-go version. If it goes down good I met get the original full-blown PS4 version at a Cyber-Monday price.
@Anti-Matter Steamworld Dig 2 is way above a "decent" game. FWIW, many players has already stated that they enjoy Steamworld Dig 2 more than Samus Returns. Haven't played Samus Returns myself, though.
@jariw
Eh...
Not a fan of Metroid games.
@Fake-E-Lee Yoshi's Island is stella! Funny though when I was a punk rock kid (still am just drop the kid part) it wasn't about being sad over nothing it was being angry at corporate greed/government/social injustices etc. are you sure you weren't one of those emo's.... 😳😋
@Fake-E-Lee hahah nice one man! 👌
Definitely voting for Steamworld Dig 2, as that game took the original and improved on it every possible way. My only regret is not spending more time on it, since Stardew Valley came out not long after.
