That's a nice QoL addition for people that like Japanese dubs. This looks like it'll go down well, like Hyrule Warriors.

Nice addition definitely, but I also find it funny how this game already has DLC priced, named, and what’ll be in it.

That's nice. I wouldn't be using this, but nice for the people that care about Japanese dubs.

My new rule is to buy DLC only after I finish the main story. I have bought season passes before, and by the time they arrive, I'm done with that game.

That's why I didn't get the BotW DLC, and I'm thankful. Great game, I played like 180 hours in a two months period, and right now I just want to do something else.

This should make some diehard FE fans happy.

LOL at the use of the word "free" here. Like it really took a lot of effort to give people something that already exists. It's the norm for a lot of games to have multiple language voices but they've somehow done us a huge favour by giving us this for free. You'd certainly know that this game has paid for DLC by such a statement.

Anyone knows if the English language pack will be available for the Japanese version of a game?

This is fine for people who speak Japanese, but I'll definitely stick to playing the game in a language I can actually understand, thanks.

Great News. Should be mandatory for all games. Unfortunately "Echoes" and "Fates" are still limited to the wooden (imo) English voices.

Hopefully the three DLC packs won't be entirely focused on Fates, Shadow Dragon, and Awakening, despite being named after them. 9 new characters is great, but it would be good if some of those character slots were given over to digging a little deeper into the FE roster. Hoping at least one character per pack is from a different game. Also a bit odd to start with Fates, given how well represented that cast is already, given they decided to include all the siblings.

My order on Amazon.co.uk is still showing as full price on Prime and delivery date unknown...

I spoked to them this morning on chat "I am sorry that the release date hasn't been updated from the manufacturers end, this is the reason the release date havent updated yet. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. In this case to help you better I will contact the buying team and request them to help you with the exact release date for you." They also gave me a £5 credit for the inconvenience.

This is good to hear. I wish they had of done the same thing with Fates and Echoes, especially since Awakening had dual audio.

@JamesR They already did. There's 9 different languages including Japanese, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian and few more. That's "free" as well.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE @TommyTLG I must have missed it! I remember that you could access them by switching the console's language. But if you can select the tracks in isolation, that would be very cool!

Square Enix did the same with World of Final Fantasy.

I wonder if it was an afterthought, something based on fan feedback, an attempt to fit on a smaller game card or merely an attempt to ensure only those who wanted the JP voices would need more space (for those who bought it digitally).

It should be a standard for all games. I can't imagine playing with any dub, especially if original language is Japanese.
And how about Japanese language for subs? If I buy European version? I hate localization in games and I want to play fully in Japanese.

Just finished talking to Amazon myself, they told me that the release date listed on their database is 15th November (wtf), and that they may have difficulty sourcing stock from the supplier, despite the fact that the Limited Edition is showing for release in 2 days. Was offered a £10 voucher IF it doesn't turn up...

I will use the Eng voices just because I don't like reading subtitles as I would rather have my attention focused on the action in this gorgeous game. Maybe a second playthrough will merit the switch to the Japanese voice work but only after I've fully witnessed the game in its entirety.

I would be sticking to my much preferred English dubbed. It puts me at ease when I can understand what the character say, especially in an action or fighting game where there's too much action going on to read or they don't even put up the subtitles for call out attacks.

A good add-on for those who prefer Japanese though, they should be very pleased.

@Araragi You can change your system language to Japanese, then you'll have both the audio and text.

@Ultimategamer132 Even though gamers are slow to adjust, this is really exactly how it should be. It's better to be informed about the plans for DLC ahead of time, in my opinion.

There seems to be this notion that DLC is only okay if it was some sort of accident added after a game is complete. Problem is, development takes a huge amount of resources, including time, and no large project is going to just wait.

What many gamers fail to realize is that DLC isn't just money-grubbing, it's simply a way to distribute the cost to the right players more fairly.

Most gamers don't come close to completing a game. ( http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/17/gdc-most-players-dont-finish-games ) So, while everyone shells out $60, most players are getting less play time.

As an example, let's be generous and say 50% of players complete the game in 25 hours and the other 50% only played for 10 hours and moved on. They all paid $60 at launch.

Game budgets have increased steadily with employee pay raises to meet inflation, but also because of demand by players for a larger amount of content and higher production quality over the years. Somehow, gamers still expect to pay $60 for the games.

For the bigger games: Charge more for the initial release, they don't buy enough. Make the game smaller, they don't buy enough.

Enter DLC. Content for fans who already got a much bigger value out of their $60 than the other half of players. Those fans can now help foot the bill while extending their experience out even further.

Looking at it this way, I don't know why anyone would care when the DLC was completed. Who should care if it was being built from the first week of development? Who should care if it's already "on disk". It's just there to help make the game a worthwhile investment in the first place.

BTW, I'm not defending all DLC and micro transaction practices. I think there are lines that are crossed that play on people's weaknesses and techniques that extract money from players while harming the game. I just think some perspective is helpful.

@aaronsullivan I just feel that it’s wrong to do. DLC should be worked on after a game’s development, not during. Also, releasing it a week or so afterwards (or on launch day like they did with Valentia) is cutting content. What they’re doing now may be releasing a month afterwards, but it’s already planned out and priced, giving off a very high possibility that content has been cut. The game looks great, but I’m staying the heck away from the disgusting DLC.

@Kingrat I spent quite a while talking to Amazon earlier. I still have no idea when I might get the game, but I made another tenner out of it. At this rate they'll be paying me to take the game off them... I made a play for the limited edition at the same price, but they weren't having any of it.

lol, I thought about doing that myself - I was told that they're likely to get stock within a week, hopefully not too much longer than that, no idea when it'll get played now though with odyssey and sonic and nightwars just around the corner...
Weirdly they've sold out of the 3ds version now too, can't imagine its sold that well, so must just be having stock issues.
If it's not been shipped in a week i'll probably complain again, see how much more I can get knocked off

@LinkSword are you sure? Not all games works like this. Disgaea 5 for example. I can't use Japanese script even if I change region and language to Japanese.

I mean, if you discount all the reasons I gave for why it exists fine, but you'll need some evidence for that.

Nothing was "cut", it was the plan. How is it "cut" if it was in the plan? And even if it wasn't in the initial plan and a decision was made part way through development, why is it wrong to evaluate how much money something is costing and distribute how its sold to customers to keep it from losing money? Would you rather they just release it and go bankrupt? Raise the release price dramatically and face a backlash? What are the reasons besides feelings?

Arguing over the value of what you are getting is fine, or if a company promised some features and then withdrew them later, you have a right to be miffed.

Trying to retroactively pin some sort of "cut" based on how you feel. I don't really get it.

I’m going to be doing this response by addressing everything I feel needs addressing beginning with your first comment and ending with your second comment.

I agree, DLC plans should be given so as to better inform us as to what to expect in the future for a game. However, many games don’t do this and either sell a season pass for DLC we don’t know about (I’m not against season passes unless they’re overly expensive) or announce said DLC near a game’s launch, giving the likely appearance that although this may have been worked on separately from the main game, it should have been in the base game as it was still released near the game’s launch, should have been worked on afterwards, or not announced on a date close to the game’s release. Releasing DLC to extend a game’s lifespan is good, but cases like these are just scenarios of greed and consumers having content cut and forced to pay more than $60 if they want the full game.

I understand your point of how many people demand all this content and don’t even bother to play it, but the companies are still making money whether they finish the game or not.

We should as it’s content which should have been in the game, especially if it was being made in that period of time with that method of cutting.

Well, that’s just smart. There’s nothing wrong with evaluating how much something cost to make and aptly pricing it.

These companies aren’t even close to becoming bankrupt thanks to all the features they include in their games to get every last cent out of us.

Saying “I feel” is merely other wording for in my opinion. However, if you want proof of content being cut, look at the latest Assasin’s Creed Origins ad. It blatantly told us a mission was being locked unless we preordered the game. Now look at Valentia which had a season pass more than the full price of the game on the same day of its launch with subsequent missions and maps which should have been in the game. Now look at Warriors which has DLC releasing a month after its launch that’s already priced and annoucning what’s in it. Once again, informing us on DLC isn’t bad, but when you do it the same day of a game’s release, it is.

Skimming, I see you think game studios haven’t been going out of business which is just — I mean, you just aren’t paying attention or haven’t been for very long, and it seems you are trying to argue an opinion from a very tiny data set. I don’t have time to tell you everything. I’m happy to discuss this stuff once you get some experience and have a broader understanding.

Contrary to your belief, I am indeed aware of the business side of things and have been paying attention. THQ shut down, Visceral shutdown, and Epic (almost shut down). With the exception of THQ, Visceral (like many companies under Activision, EA, and Konami) shutdown because it wasn’t taking the direction of what they’re almighty publisher wanted, and Epic almost shut down due to their stocks being bought out by nearly 49 percent by Tencent Holdings. Shutdowns do happen, but they don’t occur because companies didn’t put microtransactions, season passes, various editions, loot boxes, and dlc which cuts content into/with their game. Nintendo made lots of money with BOTW which had only a season pass. Persona 5 sold well and is seen as one of the best games of the year, same with Nier. To say games need those things to make money when they sold greatly makes you question who really isn’t aware of the business side of games and who needs a better understanding.
