That tiny 256GB internal storage is gonna fill up fast. Why exactly shouldn't people just get a Steam Deck with the same storage that's cheaper, will run the third party games better and will probably wind up with the nintendo exslusives via emulation eventually.
I just played this again for the first time in over a decade last year. Yet somehow I’m excited to play again for this. I hope this sells well and shows Nintendo that yes, we like it when they deviate from the Mario IP tropes and they’ll make a less toad-obsessed paper mario next time.
Yeah kind of a shame Bethesda hasn’t done much with switch outside of Skyrim and they didn’t even add official mod support (Though unofficial mod support is available. There’s even a whole nexus site dedicated to Skyrim switch mods).
Hopefully that’ll change with Microsoft’s new strategy and the next gen nintendo system
Hope Thousand Year Door is successful enough to see Nintendo roll back the toad mandate and awful combat of sticker star, colour splash and origami king for the next entry.
If piracy was 100% legal and DRM illegal I'd be fine with all digital.
I don't want to lose access to my games because x service shut down. Sure discrot is a thing but none of my games have ever had that since I got my first one when I was five years old so I'm not too concerned on that front.
I'd kill for Fable II to get any more attention. I can play Anniversary and 3 on PC but not Fable II! It's frustrating as hell but I'd settle for it on switch. Could pretty safely not bother with my Series X or any future Xbox at that point since I only really use it to play Fable II backwards compatibly...
I have 0 interest in the new Fable given it seems to just be stealing the name with none of the charm.
Not surprising given all the rumours about the drama in that company. Disco Elysium was great but I struggled to see how that could be captured again in a sequel or DLC.
I just finished Super Paper Mario (My favourite in the series) and decided to dive back in to Origami King which I'd left abandoned. The game has some real heart and soul put into it but man does the combat and toad mandate really drag it down.
Also been really lazily playing Season of Discovery for World of Warcraft now Phase 2 is out. I'm not even 26 yet lol. But it gives me time to play with my best bud.
Honestly at this point I'd settle for any cartridge. Physical media dying is loathsome and I hate the modern console situation where your disc just contains a lisence to download and play a 50-100gb game via the internet...
I don't think they'll sue unless they have a smoking gun. As in 'this was literally ripped from a pokemon game'. Rather than 'this was traced based on our work'. Even a small chance at losing this lawsuit wouldn't be worth it otherwise due to the prescedent it'd set.
@Lizuka Same here, though I lost interest by the sixth map and never went back. Everything about the game just seemed off. Setting, characters, art style and even gameplay which seems to get so much praise.
Always good to have 3DS games preserved in more places. Wouldn't play it on a meta quest myself but yeah. I see no problem with this morally, probably not legally either.
Aaaand there goes my last reason to check every GAME shop I see. God knows I don't want those vile funko pops or to pay full price for the latest release when I could get it for way cheaper online. I never sell games I own physically but I do buy a lot second hand.
For Switch? Hmm, fairly new to the system and the games I've played don't become worse from knowing them inside out. To the contrary. I woulda said Thousand Year Door but I -DID- forget everything until my recent replaythrough last March.
Overall? Morrowind. Knowing where everything is really sucks the exploration out of that game but then, that's what mods are for!
Hoping this means we might see a Fallout 4 (With mod support) port and mod support added to Skyrim. If not for the Switch then for it's successor. Bethesda was the publisher of this after all.
I only just got into the switch exactly a year ago today. So I've got time. That said, nintendo really should think about releasing their next console... ideally with an SSD because damn going from PS5/Xbox to switch and having those long loadscreens sure is whiplash.
God it needs backwards compatibility though. I'm not building my library up from scratch again. Abandoning the Wii U was the last era they could get away with that imo.
I think my biggest wish right now is mods for Skyrim. Oblivion/Morrowind port. Cyberpunk (Switch 2 if it’s powerful enough) and maybe Elder Scrolls Online. Maybe Fallout 4 with xbox-style mod support too. Pathfinder Kingmaker, Divinity 2, Divinity Original Sin 1… Literally any Dragon Age game.
Kinda hope the Switch 2 is as powerful as the Series S. That’d basically guarantee full third party support for the system and I’d giddily make it my main console.
That said so much of my port wishlist already made it this year. Risen, Gothic, TTYD.
First party wise tho, the Wii U Zelda HD remakes, the 3DS Fire Emblem games and Super Paper Mario are all top of the line for me.
Had the urge to revisit Witcher 3 for the first time in six years or so. Had a switch save I’d sorta-started so I ported that onto my PS5 with the cross save feature and carried on. Recently my power went out for a full day so after a quick trip to McDonalds to redownload my save, I kept playing it on the switch. Absolutely amazing little feature. Let’s me have the portability of switch and the cinematic power (And fast load times) of playing on the big screen and I’ve been playing it on both consoles liberally.
Keep it. I doubt Switch 2 will be FULLY backwards compatible. There’s always some legal issue or another keeping a title or two off. Just like how Crash Twinsanity for Xbox can’t be played on the 360 or series x.
My N64 (With all mario party games and paper mario boxed) My Gamecube (With Thousand Year Door, all mario party games, all zelda games and sunshine) My wii (God knows how many games) My DS (Again, same as above)
Kinda got gaslit by my mother’s husband that Nintendo (And gaming in general but especially nintendo) was for little kids. When I ran out of space for stuff in my room, the nintendo stuff was the first to go.
Having recently got back into nintendo stuff (Thanks Fire Emblem) I deeply, deeply regret not only that but missing out on the 3DS’ best years because of it.
Now I pretty much refuse to sell anything. Even contemplated rebuying what I sold but it’s so damn expensive now.
If it's a physical non-cloud release then I might just. I just pre-ordered Gothic Classic for switch and I'm a sucker for childhood favourites going portable.
I never got the chance to play this but I've been waiting for a true paper mario sequel for years. I'll settle for finally playing it's predecessor instead, hopefully this is them reviving it as a sub-ip of Mario!
Waiting for the Linkle mod before I buy it. Bit silly since I have no real dislike for Link but I dunno, I just really enjoyed playing Linkle in BotW. Kinda helped me get through the game (With a few changes to make the game less frustrating on top) because BotW's gameplay loop really isn't for me.
Enage was the biggest disappointment of the year for me. It feels so different to every fire emblem game before it and is a massive step down from Three Houses. I hated the story, characters, art style and even the engage mechanic. Even the original FE:warriors does fanservice for returning characters better.
I hope the next game is more in the style of three houses or echoes. Or hell, even a remaster of geneology would be great.
For me weapon decay doesn’t make treasures exciting. It makes it boring. Like when you reach the end of a particularly long Skyrim dungeon only to find an elixir of resist lightening and an unenchanted Dwemer warhammer. Disposable things you spent more resources getting to than you’ll get out of them. It’s why I couldn’t get into BotW after pushing through for a good thirty hours across two attempted playthrough. And why I won’t be buying tears of the kingdom. It just makes the open world feel barren, empty and pointless when the only reward is consumables. Even if you can smash said consumables together.
A shame but I can and will still download Dolphin to my Xbox, PC and Steam Deck regardless of it having a steam store page.
Maybe I'd have fudge to give if Nintendo actually tried to preserve their games but when the only way to officially play thousand year door is to shell out for a console that's no longer in production and pay £100's to then buy the game on top of that... no.
I just pray it's backwards compatible and portable. Anything else would be a massive step back. I've built up a huge switch library and I don't want it to rot as switch support shuts down in the coming decade. Much like my PS3 collection is now...
The Handheld PC and Switch are aimed at two different and only occasionally overlapping adiances. The Switch is fine in it's own corner and doesn't need to worry. Not everyone has the time or desire to jury rig games into working all the time.
That said, that price point and with the ASUS Rog coming soon? That thing's dead at birth. Steam Deck beats it on price, the ROG beats it on price and compatibility.
FF:XIV A Realm Reborn after I burnt out hard on WoW in early 2020 trying to get the season 4 BfA Mythic+ mount. I haven't gotten around to playing other games but it did put JRPG's on the map for me after me having ignored all of them except paper mario.
Was looking forward to this, then I saw the price. I'm not paying that much for a digital game and I'm not in a position to order it physically yet given how hard they made it to get. What a shame.
They can sue as much as they want but they won't stop piracy or even slow it given they make it impossible to play most of their releases legally. I don't have much sympathy for nintendo when it comes to piracy personally. Many of these pirates are saving Nintendo's legacy and history and I couldn't give a -damn- about Nintendo's legal 'rights' to protect their IP when it comes to that.

Re: Nintendo Patents Filed After Palworld's Release Suggest Lawsuit Prep Started Months Ago
Forget Palworld, what Nintendo is doing can harm so much of the games industry. Gameplay mechanics should not be eligable for patents.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Personal Favourite Super Mario Game?
Super Paper Mario.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Kingdom Come Deliverance On Switch
I trust Saber to do a good port. I did a Witcher 3 playthrough that was 60% on switch and 40% on PS5 and it ran amazingly well for the hardware.
Re: Creators Of New Switch Emulator 'Suyu' Hope To Avoid Nintendo's Wrath
Really is best just to run these things out of Russia, Brazil etc. Away from Nintendo's reach

Yuzu's already been replaced. Citra's another matter. Might be time to finally hack my 3DS.

Fire Emblem Echoes, hands down. One of my favourite nintendo games of all time.
Praying for Thousand Year Door, hope it has some extra content!

That last one was such a wholesome read. I miss old GAME and GameStation for that matter.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Want To See Colourful Cartridges Return For 'Switch 2'?

Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?
1-2 TB. But if they've got physical cartridges with the full game like with Switch on them I'm fine with less.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing
I think it’ll be close between TotK and BG3 unless Starfield absolutely hits it out of the park and isn’t burdened by the sins of it’s forefathers.
For me personally it’s BG3 all the way. BotW/TotK just have too many design decisions that make the game more irritating than fun for me.
