@Manjushri - Probably not quite as deep as Sony and Cartoon Network. I think the commercials I saw most this entire past year were for "Head Lander" and Playstation Vue on Adult Swim.
If the player avatar character isn't having graphic sex with at least three different women who serve no other plot purpose, killing people for no good reason except they interrupted my brooding exposition dump, and if every other word isn't the F-Bomb, NO SALE.
Oops, sorry...I thought this was the focus group for the latest AAA western game.
(You know, rated 'M' but written for a 14 year old intellect)
While I already got this on Steam from a free upgrade when I bought the bundle, I'm glad it's still gonna be available for Wii U.
THQNordic have been really great as a publisher. They haven't just bought up a bunch of old franchises and re-released them, they enhance them and often give them free to people who bought a license already.
They did a great job on Titan Quest and Darksiders for PC, as well as Legend of Kay for Wii U.
"with some additional treasure chests that'll drop into the opening area right away."
I hate this practice SOOO much.
Often on Steam, you can get the "complete" edition of a game with all DLC bundled, and these always feel like lazy cheats meant to subvert the challenge and discovery native to the game.
Sometimes you can disable them specifically, sometimes you can't, and when you can't you know it's there so you have to make the choice to know you have an advantage and just "pretend" it's not there.
If Nintendo are going to do this, I hope it's something you can toggle or adjust while allowing the player to explore the additional content.
Honestly, I think we're seeing an increased interest in Nintendo for a number of reasons:
01 Pokemon Go!
02 "Next Gen" console hype has faded and the PS4 pro is kind of a let down. 4K gaming still has a few years before people adopt the tech and it becomes cheap enough for the masses.
03 Dark, gritty, grey and brown shooters with stubble faced protagonists will probably always exist, but were seeing lack of interest in those games.
04 After the gaming media spent the last four years hating the Wii U and demanding nobody buy it, while prediecting the imminent doom of the dedicated handheld, the 3DS has been pretty popular and it reminds people why they love games and Nintendo in the first place. A Nintendo portable with HD resolution is a logical next step.
You have managed to turn a completely optional preview that fans are looking forward to into a topic of derision painting Nintendo as unscrupulous monsters taking advantage of their user base.
Yes, how dare Nintendo offer early adopters a chance to test a highly anticipated game in such a way that will help them work out launch day issues!
Nintendo should be shut down, all their employees arrested, their offices should be razed to the ground and the earth below salted!
I scrolled down specifically wanting to see how you would blame Nintendo and be angry about this, and sure enough... You have trolled the topic to great success!
Internet browsers are cheap, low system power usage, and incredibly versatile.
One of the advantages of the Wii U is that when I visit relatives I can stay in a room with no TV as long as I hook up th Wii U. I can just set the gamepad on the nightstand and I have instant multimedia center.
I was hoping the Switch might be even more functional in that regard as you could do the whole thing without the base unit and seperate outlet for the screen, but...I guess not really?
Sadly, it was a success because it emulated the advertising of the other console and western gaming companies. The music and the aesthetic just screamed generic western gaming ad.
Oh well...this is the direction Nintendo has to go, the millennial generation are terrified of choice and risk taking.
I'm not sold on the joy-cons. It's the portability that I think is the strongest feature.
Although, yesterday I was playing a racing game on Steam called Insane 2, and it kind of reminded me of Excite Truck and Excite Bots, but without the fancy motion controlled stunts, and I kind of missed that!
Ugh, I have tons of Gold and Silver coins that will start to slowly expire next month...
These rewards are so bad it's almost pointless. Small discounts on a small selection of games...many of which I already own. (and I suspect most loyal Nintendo customers do as well)
They need to expand the scope of the discounts, add a lot more products, or give more free stuff for your coins.
@Yorumi - I hear you Yomuri. I bought a gamecube/PS2/Xbox universal component and s-video cable set a few years back but my real issue is that my Gamecube no longer has the Gameboy adapter disc and people are gouging for them online.
At the same time, some of these demands are a little... entitled? Unrealistic?
Even car manufacturers stop making parts for their older models eventually (often third parties will still make some parts like headlight bulbs or wiring brackets), and try getting parts for your 2006 flip phone ordered new at retail.
I'm actually not defending Nintendo here, or the switch because it's looking more and more like I don't want one, but you have to realize it's not economically viable for manufacturers to support older products and tech indefinitely.
Actually, the game from Culture Brain I was most interested in was Baseball Simulator. Flying Warriors looks pretty cool too, and some people were excited for Kung Fu Heroes and the Little Ninja bros.
Please stop with this thing where one your opinion is assuming to speak for everyone.
People like that who salivate over negative news don't stop to think that:
1) Even Reggie admitted the Wii U is being phased out. They complained about Nintendo "abandoning" the Wii U, now they gloat and feign surprise when it stops selling.
2) With all the big Switch news and press conferences, is anyone surprised this is when the Wii U really drops off the charts altogether?
Yeah, I agree though that Zelda Breath of the Wild may bring a final boost in Wii U sales. I'm certainly getting the Wii U version as I'm honestly not sold on Switch, certainly not launch day.
@JaxonH - Thank you for showing off what it means to be a true gamer. The people that spend more time complaining then playing are the worst.
As for me, I have a gaming PC, 3DS, Wii U, and a bunch of retro consoles (PS1, N64, etc...)
I don't own PS4 or XboxOne, but not because of some brand loyalty thing, but because most modern western AAA gaming holds no interest for me.
You can dangle 50 different Battelfields, Ubisoft shooters, and Uncharteds in front of me, and while I won't refuse to touch them or tell people they can't enjoy them...they simply do nothing to motivate me to buy a console.
Besides, I can get all my Dragon Age, XCOM, Shadowrun, and Serious Sam on PC. Other than that, I mostly enjoy Nintendo games. Playing through Pokemon Moon right now.
Ultimately there is one major hurdle Nintendo has had ever since Sony and Microsoft decided to enter the gaming industry:
Nintendo is primarily a gaming company, that is their bread and butter. Nintendo needs their gaming to make profit or they die...Sony and Microsoft can lose money year after year, wear giant money hats, and do what the big western publishers demand because they aren't making games to really compete with EA, UBI, or Activision...they're making hardware FOR them.
It's a tough spot for Nintendo, they want to innovate and walk their own path, but two massive juggernauts with gaming as just one division of their global electronics and publishing empires shrugging off years of profit loss without even flinching.
No console should ever be retired or replaced, even after years of you same people whining about what a failure it was?
This is what is so sad about gaming community: You always come at everything with a cynical agenda, and you always try to make everything into a point of negativity and complaint.
I caught someone trying to do the same thing you're doing here on another website, he claimed that Nintendo lied about the switch being a "third pillar" and when I finally pinned him down he had to admit the quote was over a decade old and in reference to the DS...
Well...I guess you're pretty pissed that Nintendo stopped supporting the NES, huh? Give me a break!
The people trying to vilify Nintendo over this are mostly going to be the usual piracy defenders. I'm not some anti-piracy zealot, but I'm also a pragmatic person who understands basic creative ownership law.
Let's take this example: we lost beloved musician Prince last year, and like Nintendo Prince was notorious for protecting the rights for distribution of his music.
Let's imagine that his label couldn't find the master recording for "When Doves Cry" but managed to find a high quality rip on-line.
Is it no longer his song? Does he lose the right to charge for his creative work?
If so, can you explain how and why so, and why it should be any different for Nintendo?
For anyone who ever thinks I white knight for Nintendo or just say positive things, let me say that the MyNintendo rewards are awful and have gotten increasingly worse.
If you aren't going to offer free software for all those digital dollars spent, at LEAST give us a wide variety of games to get discounts for!
I'll take a small selection of free VC and digital games, or discounts on a wide variety of products, but don't give me a small selection of discounts on games I mostly already own!
Buying consoles, pre-ordering consoles, canceling console orders, selling consoles, and re-buying consoles based on rumors, a single game, some arbitrary point of contention, or out of spite is a BAD LIFE STRATEGY!
You should buy a console based on really looking forward to playing it regardless of what neckbeards on Youtube say, or what some click-bait writer for some website reports about a rumor says.
In the long run, you won't suffer buyer's or seller's remorse or feel like you've thrown good money after bad if you exercise some rational, clear-headed, decision making based on weighing the pros and cons.
I don't want to hear any whining about the Wii U either. Nobody forced you to buy it on release day, the issues with third party were not new to Nintendo, and if you still couldn't enjoy the console for what it was, then it was just unfortunate luck or unrealistic expectations.
The same will hold true for the Nintendo Switch - know what you're getting into before you spend money, do some research, and don't rush out to be an early adopter of any new device if you aren't prepared for the possibility of disappointment.
You guys had nothing but negative sentiment and continued disappointment bordering on conspiratorial distrust of anyone less upset than you with your Wii U console in 2016?
What a shocker!
For me, 2016 was a mixed bag. I was kind of disappointed in the direction Fire Emblem went, but I found Tokyo Mirage Sessions to be a welcome surprise.
I would have liked to see a release of Zelda BoTW this year, but getting to finally pick up Windwaker HD as a select was nice.
The problem of course, is not that Nintendo is charging too much, or too little, or if $10 is a fair price...
The problem is that the mobile space is inhabited by a huge number of casual gamers and the app stores are cluttered with thousands upon thousands of asset flips, broken games, duplicate games, and unlicensed and bootleg trash trying to cash in on people's lack of attention and savvy.
The real problem is that the mobile space is over-crowded, under policed, and hard work often goes unrewarded while absolute trash nets shady developers quick bucks.
They attacked it for it's entire lifespan telling us how terrible it is and how it's a mashup of terrible ideas that should never have existed...
Then when they finally stop supporting it and prepare to move on to their next hardware platform, they whine and complain about how they're abandoning it and betraying their fans...
It leaves us with the impression it's not really about the specific things they complain about, but an agenda.
Wow, even in a topic about the NES classic, we have the usual bitter lamenting of the Wii U.
Jeez...isn't there enough places to whine about the end of a console that never sold well but was supported for four years, that you spent four years constantly inventing new reasons to criticize?
You know, once you get your way, it's bad form to keep kicking the defeated party. I guess you really wanted Nintendo to support the Wii U forever so you would have an eternal punching bag?
Well, you could always go back and beat up the Dreamcast and Atari Jaguar some more.
The reason a console like the Jaguar or 3DO is relegated to the poorly thought of dustbin of history, is because they lacked good games.
Console like the Turbo Grafx, Sega Master System(in the USA) and Dreamcast are remembered fondly despite selling poorly is because of their libraries of memorable games.
I will say this: This game (like most) is not going to grab and appeal to everyone and I can understand why the reviewer might not like it.
I still think you have to take into consideration the content and price and compare it to other e-shop experiences.
I believe he scored it a bit too harshly, but I certainly don't feel he must justify or change the review. People can read his review where he explains why he scored it that way. Game scores are subjective after all.
@leuvsion - Thanks, I'll want to complete a little more of the game, but I've made a topic about it in the forums encouraging people to check it out if they enjoy open world metroidvania style side scrollers.
I'll drop you an email if I come up with any solid ideas or more feedback.
@leuvsion Ah...I found a blue key in the tower to the east of the main starting village, but didn't find the door it unlocked, and in the tower on the west I found a locked door with a heart container behind it but no key...so I'm guessing I have 50% of that puzzle solved, I just have to find the right key and door in the corresponding tower.
Do you have an official company business email?
I may even be able to help create some resources and HUD elements for you, as I have a background in commercial art and video. Although I also understand if this is your "baby" and want to keep meddling forum users from influencing it
Oh right, the charge shot, I actually got that first and so early on I nearly forgot it was a bought power up!
@leuvsion I've beaten two towers, got the jetpack, special move, powered up offense and defense a few times, and I've found three villages and the ice world area.
One thing I found that was really cool, was a warp portal that led me to an area on the rooftops of a modern city world. It was so out of nowhere, and didn't really seem to connect to the greater story except that these people were trapped there and maybe you completing your quest will free them?
I love that kind of thing, and it's absent in a lot of modern games.
My only real complaints are the rough movement, which is I guess due to the lower frame rate and that the characters aren't all that different in how they play except for special weapon.
I would like to see more collectibles and usable items instead of just the costumes and power ups you buy.
Otherwise, this game is extremely ambitious and I love exploring the quirky world.
The girl with the pigtails (Erika) has the best special weapon!
I was using hyperbole. But, in all seriousness, so often when I finish reading an article, you have the first comment and it's usually the same entitled, cynical, generic negativity.
Obviously I'm not the only one who has picked up on this. Just sayin'.
I'm a little biased, I do like this game and I think it's incredibly ambitious and gives you a lot of content for the price. It has flaws, but not enough to turn me away.

The one in the lake (Faron) you must help and the one in the sky that gives you the speed boss-run challenges?

A game that looks like a cross between Torchlight and Final Fantasy 7...well...
I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT!!!
Re: Review: EctoPlaza (Wii U eShop)
@Muddy_4_Ever - I agree.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - You know while I called you out on your negativity, I should have also addressed the substance of your OP where you said:
"It's sad we seem to hear practically nothing of Wii U now only the odd mediocre game turning up sporadically. "
Even if you think Twisted Fusion fits that description coming from a small indie dev, just in the past month or so we got:
Severed
Noitu Love
Jotun
Axiom Verge
SteamWorld Heist
And those are just the high rated, popular indies with buzz around them outside of the Wii U.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
I will say this: This game (like most) is not going to grab and appeal to everyone and I can understand why the reviewer might not like it.
I still think you have to take into consideration the content and price and compare it to other e-shop experiences.
I believe he scored it a bit too harshly, but I certainly don't feel he must justify or change the review. People can read his review where he explains why he scored it that way. Game scores are subjective after all.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@leuvsion - Thanks, I'll want to complete a little more of the game, but I've made a topic about it in the forums encouraging people to check it out if they enjoy open world metroidvania style side scrollers.
I'll drop you an email if I come up with any solid ideas or more feedback.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@leuvsion Ah...I found a blue key in the tower to the east of the main starting village, but didn't find the door it unlocked, and in the tower on the west I found a locked door with a heart container behind it but no key...so I'm guessing I have 50% of that puzzle solved, I just have to find the right key and door in the corresponding tower.
Do you have an official company business email?
I may even be able to help create some resources and HUD elements for you, as I have a background in commercial art and video. Although I also understand if this is your "baby" and want to keep meddling forum users from influencing it
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE - You're just arguing semantics.
I was using hyperbole. But, in all seriousness, so often when I finish reading an article, you have the first comment and it's usually the same entitled, cynical, generic negativity.
Obviously I'm not the only one who has picked up on this. Just sayin'.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@XCWarrior - Yes and no.
Big sites like IGN and Gamespot pay their reviewers, some make revenue through ads and agreements on Youtube etc.
Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)
@DiscoGentleman - thanks!
@Solid_Stannis - just stating my opinion.
I'm a little biased, I do like this game and I think it's incredibly ambitious and gives you a lot of content for the price. It has flaws, but not enough to turn me away.
