Re: Nintendo of Europe Confirms Its Second Batch of eShop Cyber Deals

Action51

@KTT - I love how people with an agenda always have an experience with a specific circumstance to continue to push that agenda after the original statement is proven false.

In your case, you state that if your system breaks, your digital games are gone forever. Obviously that's not true, and it was exposed so:

You claim:
"A friend of mine did call Nintendo when the System Transfer failed on him. And Nintendo did nothing about it, even after multpile messages sent to them. He literaly lost all of his games. This is a fact, not a lie."

Amazing! This particular circumstance happened to a random friend...how convenient and fortunate so you could come here and let us know in case your original misinformation was exposed...of course this happened to your "friend".

Re: Feature: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes of FAST Racing NEO - Part Two

Action51

Isn't it a crying shame we live in an age where people go so far out of their way to launch attacks on developers and console makers that misinformation like we see in Post #1 is so commonplace?

There is this desire to inflict negativity on Nintendo that is so strong, and irrational, that we're correcting fact and fiction over whether a game is 60fps or not because of a 59fps artifact that was found under certain circumstances over a year ago and has since been disputed and corrected.

But there are those who really, really, want to push the narrative of Nintendo's technical inferiority,...so the misinformation persists.

Re: Nintendo of America Confirms Its Black Friday eShop Cyber Deals

Action51

@Yorumi - real talk now:

Were you really expecting the Wii U sale to be like Steam?
Were you really?
Was it a surprise to you that it wasn't amazing with deep 90% discounts on everything?

One more serious question: You were gonna complain about it anyway, no matter what the deals were, weren't you?

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival (Wii U)

Action51

Now I haven't played this game, and I'm not an Animal Crossing fan or fan of Amiibo...

I have no doubt that this game isn't the stellar installment that fans of the series wanted, but I do actually wonder how much of the criticism is warranted, and how much is the narrative being followed?

While I know technically a 5 is supposed to mean just average, we all know that in reality, video game reviews tend to grade a curve where 7 is mediocre and 5 is actually quite bad...

I wonder then: If this released alongside trailers and announcements of a full fledged Animal Crossing on Wii U, or had been part of a better received E3, would this review and reviews around the internet be slightly higher?

Would it even be possible for this game to get generally positive reviews even if it were a better game in terms of content and execution while maintaining the narrative.

  • "nobody wants"
  • "cash grab"
  • "filler title"

It's an interesting question.

Re: Review: Barbie and her Sisters Puppy Rescue (Wii U)

Action51

Oh Little Orbit...if you took a few less contracts and actually put some time into fully developing these games, you could gain the reputation as more then the designer of shovelware that occasionally makes a surprisingly not garbage licensed game.

However I assume the money and quick turnaround preying on the fandom of children makes you enough money overall that you just don't care...sad.

Re: Editorial: It's Not Fun to Criticise Nintendo Games, But It's Been Unavoidable in 2015

Action51

@Maxz - Thanks!

Yeah, that was in no way aimed and NintendoLife, and was meant as a general critique of the way video games journalism has been acting lately.

Sometimes a narrative is developed as soon as the game is revealed, and that narrative is carried through to the final review scores and it effects expectations probably more then we'd like...

Look at how IGN and several other sites are re-reviewing Splatoon after it's unexpected success and sustained popularity...Look at how GTAV and Fallout 4 were given a ton of concessions.

I'm not making excuses for "rushed" Nintendo games, but I think there is something to be said for the way the internet hypes these narratives, then seems to be slaves to them when review time comes.

Re: Editorial: It's Not Fun to Criticise Nintendo Games, But It's Been Unavoidable in 2015

Action51

I think there are two things at play here:

1) There is a narrative, and the narrative influences scores all too often.

  • The post-E3 narrative was that spin off games suck, and are clearly just a tide over until main series releases come along
  • Some of these games were just fill-ins for holes in the Nintendo holiday lineup with the delay of StarFox and Zelda U.

2) About halfway through this year, competing consoles finally started to feel like "next gen" console, with a series of big, open world games from game-media darling publishers like CD Projekt, Kojima, and Bethesda.

Now, this does not excuse Nintendo games for whatever flaws that they have, but it seemed the narrative was written for these games and that narrative had to be followed.

Similarly to a lot of reviews for Fallout 4...where the whole review is picking at the flaws, the shortcuts, and the frustrations of the game, only to end with a 9/10...The narrative is that it's Bethesda, it's a huge world, and it's Fallout...so it's got to be good....that's what we all told ourselves and so that's what it shall be!

Re: Feature: Assessing Affordable Space Adventures and Its Ongoing Journey

Action51

@AlexSora89 Haha, I looked up Quorthon from the link you provided, and pretty much 75% of his posts include the words "nintendo fanboy"...and probably about 90% are just bitter tirades against anyone who doesn't hate on the Wii U.

Well anyway...I may have to pick up Affordable Space Adventures. The only thing keeping me from doing it is I don't frequently have the chance to play multiplayer, and the people I play multiplayer with probably wouldn't "get" the whole shared control scheme concept.

Re: EA CFO Explains Why the Company Doesn't Make Wii U Games Anymore

Action51

@gatorboi352 said: "So many butthurt NDFers"

With statements like that, I'm sure you won't be surprised at all when people dismiss your posts as antagonistic trolling?

Problem is, this seems to be your position on every topic you post in, your first knee-jerk reaction is to blame and insult the fanbase.

Finally...prepare for "but I'm really a Nintendo fan who used to love Nintendo and just wants to see them return to their glory days!"...Fine. Until then, try to be constructive and stop trolling!

Re: Feature: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes of FAST Racing NEO - Part One

Action51

Must...have it!

I love racing games, though I've never been a huge, huge fan of futuristic racers specifically, but I'm liking the way this looks!

It will be nice to have another racing game on the Wii U, especially with recent Need for Speed being absent from the console (and sadly, DRM enabled on PC, so pass on that!)

Re: EA CFO Explains Why the Company Doesn't Make Wii U Games Anymore

Action51

@sub12

Yes, Need for Speed Most Wanted was a really good, delayed port. Though I think that had more to do with Critereon's competency then EA's benevolence.

Where were the hot new games? Why was the Madden game different from the ones on other consoles? Why the baffling Mass Effect 3 port debacle?

Need for Speed is the exception, not the rule...and no one is rushing out to buy a Wii U for a solid port of a random entry in a series that was experiencing saturation decay when they could already buy it for deep discounts on their existing PS3 and X360?

Re: This Handsome Infographic Shows Off All The Job Roles in Final Fantasy Explorers

Action51

@rishisquid - some of the mage classes aren't that "mage-ly"

If you have played Final Fantasy 5 or Final Fantasy tactics, the Blue Mage and Red Mage are sort of hybrid classes.

  • Red Mages are "jack of all trades" buffers and fighters...
  • Blue Mages are like Rogue from the X-men, they learn attacks that are used against them.
  • Geomancers are great support characters that can take a bit of damage, and mostly focus on manipulating the terrain.

Re: You Can't Alter The Chest Size Of Female Characters In The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Action51

@MagicalDreamer - is it?

Uh oh...SJW logic incoming!

So...why can't the male avatar be fat, or bald, or really skinny?

There they go...with every slider that does not exist, they're offending another group of poeple that don't fit the parameters included! A lack of options is implicit discrimination!

Where is the slider to make a person with every conceivable physical disability? Oh! Nintendo hates the disabled!

Where is the slider to make the character have dwarfism? Peter Dinklage shall be writing angry letters!

  • nobody buys this crap or is actually offended for the reasons you claim.

Re: You Can't Alter The Chest Size Of Female Characters In The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Action51

Reality check:

  • Is removing the "bust slider" for player avatars a dumb and ultimately pointless exercise in self-censorship?

YES

  • Is it a minor, trivial, change that will have literally no impact on the game besides a minor cosmetic one?

YES

  • Is it okay to be a little bit annoyed or upset by this?

YES

  • Is it reasonable to get all bent out of shape, or turn into a self-appointed crusader against the evils of censorship (but not actual real-world censorship that effects people's lives and civil rights around the world, just minor changes to video games when click bait sites point them out to you) because of this?

NOPE.

Re: Parent Trap: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Goes Where Other Wii U Games Don't

Action51

@Kirk - Man, for about as long as I've been coming to this site and posting in the comments, all I see is cynicism and negativity from you.

Maybe you actually do like something Nintendo had made or done in the last few years, and maybe you have made a post that wasn't dismissive or outright hostile, but I sure haven't seen it.

Anyway, my point is: It's obvious Nintendo does not offer the games, products, and experiences that you're looking for and that's fine...but do you think maybe you're just wallowing in negativity and looking for attention at this point?

I don't think Nintendo is going to change drastically tomorrow or next week, maybe you should take a break from cynical Nintendo criticism, focus on games and platforms that interest you for a while, and maybe check back every few months and see if Nintendo is actually making games and products that interest you again.

It's not about being a "fanboy" and praising everything Nintendo does, I think that's silly too. However, isn't there a point where you let it go and move on with your life?

Re: Hands On: Getting Pinned Down By Nintendo Badge Arcade

Action51

@rjejr - Actually, I managed to do really well on the practice crane, then I saw the "freinds of mario" catcher.

With my two free plays, I got Donkey Kong, Diddy, the barrels and the Bananas! I would have liked Daisy and Wario as well...but I was like: I got what I came for, I'm happy!

Honestly, I'm really enjoying this little app/game, and I haven't spent a dime of real world money so far.

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Was a Bright Return to the Limelight

Action51

@gatorboi352

You've been on this site a long time, and almost always playing Debbie Downer, but let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say you aren't just pushing the "Cross gen is bad when it's Nintendo" meme.

What you outlined is a theory based on your opinion, and some random factors that don't necessarily form a pattern.

It's possible that the NX will be backwards compatible and won't NEED a special cross gen version.

It's possible that when Nintendo says the summer is too hot for games it was RP babble, and they're going to try to have a big summer release after all.

There's any number of reasons why your guess is not confirmation. That doesn't mean I think you're wrong, it means I'm tired of people speculating and claiming it "basically confirms" anything.

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard some troll or Nintendo hater on this or other sites claim "it's all but confirmed" that the next console Zelda is "skipping" the Wii U, I could pre order every game mentioned in that direct right now and still have enough left over for special editions!

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Was a Bright Return to the Limelight

Action51

@zool - is there literally a single human being who would read an article like this, on a website like this, and not actually know that Twilight Princess is a re-master of a nearly 10 year old game?

To paraphrase Seinfeld: "Who are these people?"

I think they were also pretty explicit and clear within the direct to inform people that it's a re-master. There's no chicanery or tomfoolery afoot here.

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Was a Bright Return to the Limelight

Action51

I think the people who were acting disappointed aren't putting things in perspective.

We all agree E3 was pretty bad in both content and presentation, but this is not E3, this is a direct.

It's easy to jump on the negativity bandwagon if you're expecting earth shattering announcements. However, a direct is basically an update of what's new, what's coming, release dates, features, news...it's not supposed to be a huge event where heavy hitters and major new stuff gets showcased.

All in all I was happy with the direct, although I feel the $80 North American price tag for the complete collector's edition of Fire Emblem is a bit of a milking. Before Awakening they were worried the series would die off from lack of interest...now they're going full blown collector's edition at twice the cost of a normal release...ugh.

Re: Preview: Getting Lost in the World of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Action51

I love this article, it makes me so happy!

So many modern games...if they aren't made difficult by a matter of being twitchy or competitive action...are dumbed down so that any dude-bro who plays will never get stuck or lost.

Well I'm sorry, but I come from the old-school of RPG gaming, and I don't want a game that any drooling meathead who just got done playing Call of Duty can beat without thinking...because if he can, then there is no challenge for me.

Hooray for games that don't spell everything out for you, and leave you to actually be the protagonist...not an observer with some action input.

Re: Nintendo Is Making Female Characters Cover Up For The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Action51

Am I the only one who noticed that the shots of Lin(Lynn whatever) in the "censored" western version are grainy like they're photographed off a CRT monitor, and her body proportions are much different?

Her legs look like they lost 1/3 of their length and her head to body ratio makes her body seem even more squat in the western version.

Something seems fishy here, I wonder if this is a hoax? Has it been confirmed by official sources that the western versions will have these changes?

Is that just me noticing this?

Re: Disney Infinity 3.0's Toy Box Mode Offers Blatant Splatoon Clone

Action51

I think people are being defensive because Nintendo has struggled recently, and Splatoon is a genuinely popular new IP.

My first reaction on hearing this news was "are you kidding me, Disney"?

Then you watch the video and it's more of an homage that barely does more then approximate the general idea of Splatoon, and not some major implementation of a rip-off or anything too sinister.

I think the generally contentious attitude in console gaming has made us all a little wary of these things, but this looks mostly harmless.

Re: Poll: The Battle of the Nindies and Questions on amiibo

Action51

I think this is great, it's a way for Nintendo to build third party relationships from the bottom up, rather then try to compete to be the biggest subsidizer of mega-publishers.

For me, indies are where it's at right now. I see the stuff getting pumped out of the Ubisoft and EA and Activision studious, and I couldn't be more bored.

Games like Steamworld, Shovel Knight, Shantae, UnEpic, and Toki Tori have been surprise hits and welcome fresh air.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Action51

@XeNoUsernameHere

My main argument to counter this is:

When you bought Shovel Knight last year (or whenever) like most of us did...and you spent that $15.00, you got a great game that everyone loved and raved about.

If no Amiibo was made, if no new modes were created, if the game were left "as is"...we would all feel we got our money's worth and that the game was a real indie gem.

Now they want to make an Amiibo because a ton of people have been asking for it, and they add some bonus stuff in the game because that's what Amiibo do...and suddenly it's like Nintendo and Yacht club games went back in time to erase all the fun and value you got out of your $15 purchase.

This is what @JaxonH and others are talking about when they say people will defy common sense and logic to find reasons to complain...if this Amiibo never existed, you wouldn't think for one second that the game lacked anything (in fact we'd still be praising it), but now that they offer some bonus content, people are crying about a rip-off.

I'd say it's unbelievable, but this is gaming in 2015.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Action51

@Bowser908

Clearly you are either a troll trying to get attention/reactions from people, or you are simply an incredibly entitled person who is rather ill-informed.

All of your weird little theories and justifications lose any credibility when you consider what would happen in more people did what you feel you are entitled to. Sure...movies and games still make money when some people pirate them, but about if more people did? What makes you so special and entitled?

Then you talk about MPAA propaganda? Uhm...no...I'm a creative person who has created physical and digital art, and I'd like to think the work and imagination that goes into the creation of such content has value beyond whatever non-producing leeches can take for themselves.

Should a lawyer's counsel be free because there is no physical product in your hands?

I don't know why I'm still responding to someone so devoid of facts and reason, and so ill-informed and entitled. Maybe you are just a really effective troll.

Re: Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relationship With Indies, Says Nintendo

Action51

@Bowser908

Are you a communist? If we were guaranteed a healthy income regardless of the demand for our intellectual property, then I can see how your self-serving justification for piracy would be legitimate.

However, most of us live in capitalist society and what you describe in your original post is based on 1) a device that does not exist 2) presumably does not have demanding energy requirements.

Your response is purely creating a justifaction for your piracy and sense of entitlement. If work...whether it creates a physical product or not...does not generate revenue for those who create it, they will cease to create that content and choose to devote themselves to activities that will feed their families and pay their bills.

It's pretty simple really.
