You may know me as someone who is generally positive and doesn't like to jump on the negative narratives, but on this one I'm not liking what I'm hearing.
1) I know they removed the "face touching" thing for western releases...it just seemed so odd for a medieval fantasy war strategy game in whatever region, but did they replace it with anything?
2) The splitting of he SKU by campaign, no matter what special offers or accommodations doesn't sit well with me. Also, what if you are a "hardcore" fan and still want to enjoy Birthright, or the other way around?
3) I know they hired a manga writer, but Fire Emblem's strength has always been the gameplay. We'll see if this actually helps the game, or impacts the gameplay negatively.
I've been a Fire Emblem fan since they brought it to America in the GBA days, and now that they saw a level of interest and excitement with Awakening (which I thought was a solid entry), they seem to be milking their fanbase instead of capitalizing on that momentum and focusing on delivering a great value and experience.
1) Never watched television or a movie
2) Never owned a CRT TV
3) Never owned a console prior to the mid 2000s decade...
4) Never watched the vast majority of Youtube videos which run at 30fps
So basically, there is a super-limited spectrum of stuff you are able to experience across all media?
All this to attack a 30FPS framerate on a Nintendo game? I applaud your dedication to attacking this.
UPDATE:
"Gamecube definitely wasn't my first console (That'd be N64, though I played my parents' NES and SNES before then) but I remember going to Walmart and seeing the display for it.

@JaxonH Said: "And that's exactly what they did. They made one game for Awakening fans (Birthright) and one game for pre-existing fans (Conquest)."
That's not my issue, and I'm not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. I welcome as many branches in the campaign as they can create without sacrificing quality...
But then don't turn around and try to sell each branch as a whole new retail game, when clearly this was initially developed as a single retail SKU, then later broken into multiple games because Nintendo believes the hardcore Fire Emblem fans will pony up an extra $40 to play through both.
I feel like it's a cash grab. This should be one $40-$50 SKU.
@DESS-M-8 - I have to admire your tenacity in sticking with the narrative.
Facts? Circumstances? BAH! ...There's perfectly good Nintendoom to spread around.
While no one is expecting the Wii U sell like gangbusters in the post holiday season, only a dedicated hater would insist manufacturing shortages have nothing to do with it, and that this is the fulfillment of some grand prophecy marking the end of Nintendo's hardware platform.
As a huge Fire Emblem fan, I'm still really annoyed at the cash grab of breaking up the title and selling each branch as a separate, full priced SKU.
You could tell from the start that this was originally going to be one single title with the idea of "Fates" (plural) being about choices you made. Seems that got whittled down to choosing your "Fate" at the retail store rather then in the game.
" 30 FPS sets off my simulation sickness and makes me feel very ill after about an hour of gameplay."
What? ...Is this a joke?
Do you realize that the majority of console videogames are 30fps for the last generation or two?
Did you know that TV in North America was 29.97 FPS in broadcast until very recently? (25FPS in EU) Were you aware most films throughout motion picture history run at exactly 24 FPS...?
Do all those things give you "simulation sickness" or is it some weird phenomenon that only makes people feel funny after playing Nintendo games at 30FPS?
If that's true...what a shame you can't watch any movie or television show from before the mid 2000 decade...hmm?
@faint - it's an easy shot to jump on the Negativity bandwagon and pretend to be so concerned and upset with Nintendo for an app that most people never used.
Little Orbit can be very hit or miss in their movie tie-in games.
It always upsets me when companies make cheap, buggy, or broken cash in to movies that appeal to children who may ask for the game out of excitement for the franchise and not as informed consumers.
At least this one seems to be a decent little fighter with a nice presentation and game-play.
@zool - Where do you guys come up with the numbers to support your negative Nintendoom theories?
How do you come up with these theories that always manage to include sales Numbers and doom in the first place?
Who are these people getting rid of Wii U and buying an Xbox?...it seems very strange, almost counter-intuitive to go to the major platform with the LEAST Japanese titles behind PS4 and PC.
@Warruz - lol...Are you being sarcastic, or are you planning a trolling campaign the likes of which the internet has never seen?
@Mineral - Yes, this news exists for other console manufacturers, but there is much more interest and click-bait potential for Nintendo stock related news.
Partly because Nintendo is a gaming first corporation where Microsoft and Sony and global megacorporations with other massive enterprises to fall back on...which leads us to the other reason: Nintendoom!
Yeah...ever since the low sales of the N64 there has been an active contingent of fanboys, game journalists, trolls and haters that relish and delight in the idea that Nintendo is always on it's last leg...ready to go bankrupt and be driven out of gaming.
@John_Enigma - Nah, the Gameboy is actually an anomaly for shape of hand-held devices of that era.
The Game Gear, Wonderswan, Neo Geo X, and the Tiger Game.com (as well as their cheap LCD games) were all oriented that way. Only the Gameboy and the Turbo Express had that portrait style orientation.
@Mrclaycoat - If the removal of a third party supported app from the e-shop after four years is reason enough to stop you from buying the next Nintendo console, then I wonder what made you stop buying other consoles?
Wait, that doesn't apply and you just wanted to bash Nintendo for something that may or may not be their fault? Got it.
Have you played Game and Wario? It's not for everyone, but it's creative and uses the gamepad more extensively then any other game for the console.
It released originally as a $40 retail game, but it's not bad...it's just that the games are really all over the place in quality. Some you'll play one and hate and never play again, others are kind of addictive.
$20 is a good price, there's a lot of stuff in it, but if you don't like wacky mini-games and using the gamepad, then I'd certainly pass.
Yes, VS Excitebike is the Famicom version with extra features that let you save tracks on the Famicom disks.
I love Excitebike and already got it on Wii U as a reward or on sale or something, but I thought about checking out VS...still haven't bought it though.
@FierceRagnar - You sound like a paid spokesperson for the Amiibo hater's lobby...
First off, Amiibo content is not always "on disc DLC"
In many cases Amiibo content simply would not have existed otherwise, so you aren't "missing out" on the full game. You aren't getting the bonus content built specifically for the Amiibo. Most games lock much more important game related content to their DLC and "season passes" which are developed before release anyway. At worst, Nintendo is on par with the industry here.
In many cases like Super Mario Maker, the Amiibo content can be unlocked anyway. In other cases, it's a non-essential part of the experience, like Mii costumes (that were developed specifically for Amiibo after the game released) and trained fighters in Super Smash.
Are you waiting for your Call of Duty season pass to unlock features in other games? Keep waiting...because Amiibo can and do actually do release bits of content and bonus features across multiple games.
You don't have to like them, but please at least be honest about them.
Editor function to let you play as the Amiibo suit period.
I hate how when you design or play a level based around the Amiibo suit character, the suit pops off when you get hit and it loses the illusion of playing that level as the desired Amiibo character.
Ideally, getting powerups in this form would work too...a mushroom gives you a "heart" and a fire flower would activate that Amiibo suit's "special power" like Donkey Kong tossing a barrel, Pit shooting an Arrow, or Link's sword firing out that wave like in OG Zelda.
Honestly, if this is the direction things are going, then it looks like the Wii U will probably be my last dedicated home console ever.
Essentially people want a device that already does what your PC and smartphone do.
Why should my device save to a cloud when it can save to a memory card or HDD, and I don't have to be online to get my save game, or simply play in the first place?
" #140 khaosklub said: Another thing to consider... would this content exist without amiibo? Was the extra dungeon made based on expected revenue from amiibo sales? That throws everything for a loop really."
For those who want an honest discussion, that's a good question.
For those who have an agenda, the answer is always Nintendo is bad!
The first one was pretty fun, I'll probably pick this up at some point. It's a basic tactical SRPG with crazy button tap combo mechanics and beautiful 2D animations.
At the time the Virtual Boy was released, the only actual VR were these big booth sized devices with very rudimentary experiences that required you put on a big helmet and pay a few bucks for a very short experience at malls and casinos.
This Palmer Luckey guy is just doing what a lot of hack game journalists do: getting attention by taking a pot shot at Nintendo. - In this case at a 20 year old experiment that barely anyone outside of the hardcore retro game community remembers.
It's the equivalent of someone from the late 90s blaming the largely forgotten 1982 Vectrex for harming 3D polygonal gaming in the N64, PS1, Saturn era.
@gatorboi352 I'm so glad we have people like you to offer insightful industry analysis, that clearly isn't a dig at people who claim they like local multiplayer and designed to provoke responses.
It would be totally out of character for you to use these comment sections just to repeat general anti-Nintendo talking points and seek negative attention, after all.
Anyone who uses the term "feminazis" is immediately invalidated because you are first off all using a term created by a bigoted liar, and secondly...because no matter how much you deny it doing it, you keep lumping all feminists together and then demonizing them.
Before you accuse me of missing your point, you should realize I'm far from some kind of politically correct SJW...I'm kind of an old fashioned guy and some of my positions are from the "right", and some from the "left", and center.
Here in America we have "birthers" who are convinced that President Obama wasn't born a US citizen..."truthers" who believe the 9/11 terror attacks were an inside job....and even "flat Earthers" who are still convinced the Earth is not spherical.
I think we need a name for people like you who will insist that Zelda U is going to be an NX release, but not a Wii U release regardless of how many times they announce and reassure us it is indeed scheduled for a Wii U release.
"Zelda-NXers" ...?
On top of that, while doing a cross-gen release is not a big deal anymore, and most AAA games come cross gen now...there is still literally no confirmation of Zelda U coming to NX.
@BigBabyPeach - I'd say some people take issue with the tone of your original post which was basically negative and your assertion that people are "deifying" him...which is a bit out of line and callous for an article trying to respectfully remember an important figure in gaming.
Now you turn around and play victim, accusing others of not allowing you to talk openly about his record, when you know that's not the case...the first "shots fired" were from you accusing others of "deifying" him.
If anything, I've seen more people "demonize" Iwata and make him the fall guy for everything that's wrong with not only Nintendo, but video games in general.
Now that he's passed on, there are still those who obsess over stuff they hate on the internet who just can't let go of their anger.
You people need to adjust your TV settings or something...
I play on a 40" Sony Bravia that's a couple of years old, and I do sometimes have trouble with text in older PC games I get on Steam that weren't designed for an HD interface...but not Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Also note, I wear prescription glasses and my eyesight is not anywhere near 20/20.
You nailed it. The death of the mid-tier publishers of the late 2000 decade is spreading into the lowest common denominator mobile model of the post 2010 era...now it's massive budget, CPU straining open world games for $60 with another $30 to get the complete game (sorry..."season pass") or it's a free game you download the day you hear about it, and it's forgotten next week.
I also have to roll my eyes when developers make un-appealing games and then cry when they don't sell well. Well...if you aren't going to make new games I'm interested...I'm not going to miss you that much, really.
How about this: You are not entitled to my loyalty or dollars, Renegade Kid. However, if you make games I want...you will have my dollars. Understand?
Xenoblade Chronicles X for me. It's the game I always wanted since I was a kid...brimming with imagination and everything an 80s and 90s anime kid ever wanted in one gigantic, and beautiful looking game.
I went through your comment history (which is very simple to do here) and EVERY SINGLE COMMENT was a negative talking point or derision of a Nintendo game or negative retort to someone on this board who said something positive about Nintendo or a Wii U game.
I went back about thirty posts and not even ONE POST was just a neutral, passing comment of interest, much less a single note of praise.
You can make long posts that go off into weird tangents about the power of the console compared to Xbox or...whatever...but I think it's clear you are either here expressly to spread a negative agenda, or Nintendo isn't for you and it's time to move on instead of constantly repeating whatever the anti-Nintendo talking point Du-Jour might be.
First off Gamespot is known to give Nintendo harsh, low, out-lier scores. If you think they're a decent site for reviews, then more power to you...but they're pretty well known for being especially brutal to Nintendo games.
Second, so much of what you say sounds exactly like what haters of Nintendo and fanboys of other consoles have been repeating on message boards. Which is pretty much your routine most of the time too.
There's a few key people on this board we can always count on to bring the spin and negative talking points.
@wizzgamer - do you get paid by the talking point?
"Surprised it sold as well as that especially with it being a bit overpriced."
This is just the setup...let the talking points begin!
"The games should technically be free and not add to the price as they come pre installed and are not a physical copy"
Where did you come up with this? What service are you using besides flat out piracy or pay2play where software is free so long as it's not released on physical media? That's actually kind of crazy and absurd.
"Also not to mention it only has one more year as the main home console for Nintendo as it's obvious the NX is to be released around this time next year for xmas. As the new Zelda has obviously been delayed to be a dual launch game on Wii U and NX so the new console has a big launch game."
This whole bit is totally irrelevant and loaded with speculation and predictions that have not been confirmed. I really believe your goal here was to downplay the success of the Black Friday bundle by spewing as many negative talking points as possible.
Look at the in-house studio's job on Windwaker and how nice that looked, look at this really nice fan made version without the support of Nintendo or a bug budget, then look at how underwhelming the shots of the Tantalus port look.
I wonder if the Twilight Princess HD wasn't meant for the 3DS smaller screen, and then dumped over to Wii U where you can see how bad it looks in HD?
@KTT - Wow man, you're like the "it could happen to you" guy...
The reason I don't believe your story is because you come on here trashing the Nintendo sales and downplaying digital...you throw out a line about not being able to replace games and you're called out on it for being wrong.
Now suddenly, you're an expert on the topic of Nintendo not restoring content...vague tales of it happening on the "internet years ago", and of course it happened to a "friend" of yours too!
You wouldn't be the first person who used game website message boards as a way to further an agenda. I've heard many more stories about people who called Nintendo and got their stuff restored.
Of course I don't have a friend that this happened to...It just isn't that convenient for me. I can't wait to meet all your other friends that will prove to be the exception to the rule when needed.

Re: Video: Nintendo Introduces the Battle Mechanics of Fire Emblem Fates
@JaxonH
1) I'm not talking about the Kinship/marriage stuff. I'm specifically talking about the face touching minigame that was removed. Also, the marriage/coupling thing made sense in Awakening because of the time travel plot. I don't see why they don't just enhance the support system from previous games to include some of these changes and concepts.
2) Fire Emblem games have frequently had branching pathways, just not as dramatic. Sacred Stones has a large section where you can choose which royal sibling to accompany for a while.
3) Yeah...we'll see. I just hope we don't get bogged down in too many flashbacks and internal conflicts based around a single traumatic event, or brooding teen drama or something like that.
Re: Video: Nintendo Introduces the Battle Mechanics of Fire Emblem Fates
@JaxonH - I'm extremely skeptical of Fates.

Re: Video: Nintendo Introduces the Battle Mechanics of Fire Emblem Fates
@JaxonH - Thanks, that wasn't really clear.
But you have to do it digitally, right? Not a huge deal, but still feels like a cash grab.
I expect a game called "Fates" to mean I get to choose my fate in the game, not at the retail counter.

It's the equivalent of someone from the late 90s blaming the largely forgotten 1982 Vectrex for harming 3D polygonal gaming in the N64, PS1, Saturn era.
Re: Developers Dig into Sales Failure of Toto Temple Deluxe
I think the problem with this game, is that it looks like a lot of other cheap puzzle games released on mobile and game shops.
While this may actually be a good game, it's a flooded market.
Re: Developers Dig into Sales Failure of Toto Temple Deluxe
@gatorboi352 I'm so glad we have people like you to offer insightful industry analysis, that clearly isn't a dig at people who claim they like local multiplayer and designed to provoke responses.
It would be totally out of character for you to use these comment sections just to repeat general anti-Nintendo talking points and seek negative attention, after all.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Voice Actress Is In Favour Of Lin's Western Costume Change
@Dave24
Re: Happy New Year from Nintendo Life
@Boyd Inconceivable !
You have a Fire Emblem avatar and name, but you haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles X?
Get on that, man!
Re: Feature: Five Key Reveals and Releases That Will Define Nintendo's 2016
@FabioSMASH
On top of that, while doing a cross-gen release is not a big deal anymore, and most AAA games come cross gen now...there is still literally no confirmation of Zelda U coming to NX.
Sorry.
Re: Editorial: Satoru Iwata Embodied The Playful Brilliance of Nintendo, and His Legacy Will Endure
Re: Editorial: Satoru Iwata Embodied The Playful Brilliance of Nintendo, and His Legacy Will Endure
@Olmectron - I agree.
If anything, I've seen more people "demonize" Iwata and make him the fall guy for everything that's wrong with not only Nintendo, but video games in general.
Now that he's passed on, there are still those who obsess over stuff they hate on the internet who just can't let go of their anger.
Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Reader Awards 2015
@Solid_Stannis
Are you the same guy who posted as Kenny Powers and Jon Redcorn?
Re: Editorial: Xenoblade Chronicles X Has Tiny Text - Time for an Update?
You people need to adjust your TV settings or something...
I play on a 40" Sony Bravia that's a couple of years old, and I do sometimes have trouble with text in older PC games I get on Steam that weren't designed for an HD interface...but not Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Also note, I wear prescription glasses and my eyesight is not anywhere near 20/20.
Re: Sales for Dementium Remastered Have Been Much Lower Than Expected
@PanurgeJr
Understand?
Re: Video: Check Out This Footage of Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories
Looks terrible.
It has that cheap cut and paste flash game look to it...the sort of game that is perpetually on sale on the Steam store for a buck or two.
Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015
Xenoblade Chronicles X for me. It's the game I always wanted since I was a kid...brimming with imagination and everything an 80s and 90s anime kid ever wanted in one gigantic, and beautiful looking game.
Re: Guide: Getting Started With Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U
@zool - I did a little experiment.
Re: Guide: Getting Started With Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U
@zool - Why bother?
Re: Wii U Named as "The Top Selling Item on Target.com" In Black Friday Sales
@wizzgamer - do you get paid by the talking point?
"Surprised it sold as well as that especially with it being a bit overpriced."
"The games should technically be free and not add to the price as they come pre installed and are not a physical copy"
"Also not to mention it only has one more year as the main home console for Nintendo as it's obvious the NX is to be released around this time next year for xmas. As the new Zelda has obviously been delayed to be a dual launch game on Wii U and NX so the new console has a big launch game."
Re: Feature: The Twilight Princess HD Fan Project That's Taking On Nintendo At Its Own Game
Nintendo should fire Tantalus right now.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Confirms Its Second Batch of eShop Cyber Deals
