Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

Action51

Pretty amazing how in less then one video gaming console generation we've gone from embracing motion controls, to being terrified of them and hating them blindly.

My opinion has always been:
If it's done right, it can add to the game.

As someone who really enjoyed the motion controls in Sin and Punishment 2 (remember it relied heavily on pointer controls) and ExciteTruck/ExciteBots ...I'm really looking forward to Starfox Zero.

It should be one of those great palette cleanser games that you can jump in to for a short but exciting break.

Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

Action51

@andywitmyer - Well put, Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and so are talking points.

You have to understand that -some- of these critics hate EVERYTHING Nintendo does because it's Nintendo and no other reason .

I'm buying the physical release because I think it looks fun.

I passed on Pokken Tournament because I wasn't really up to mastering a fighting game and the selection of fighters didn't interest me...but unlike these perpetual critics, I can pass on a game and let others enjoy it rather then obsessing that everyone known how much I'm filled with hate for Nintendo because something wasn't exactly what I expected.

Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

Action51

@Kirk @gatorboi352

I'm shocked that you both would be immediately critical and negative at this.

Ugh, another game doomed to be overlooked because gamers of this generation are terrified of change and close-minded to a fault.

Wii U will probably be my last console ever. I'll stick to PC for the big screen experience. I hope Nintendo continues it's handheld market where the budgets won't necessarily break a company when whiny, entitled, timid gamers latch on to a talking point and sink an otherwise innovative game.

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

Action51

@Vincent294 - lol

The point is that a video gaming platform is a video gaming platform.

It's like saying Ford gets credit for developing a certain safety device on their vehicles first because even though Cooper might have done it years before...it's not an American car, or it was first featured on a compact car and not a truck.

I refuted your point, and you really had no legitimate reply, so you change the parameters and claim that only console gaming counts. That -might- have been a more legitimate argument in 1984, but not in 2016.

Re: Road Redemption's Wii U Release is Looking Rather Doubtful

Action51

@Clownshoes - So basically your response is to rehash all the most popular "negatives" about the Wii U console?

What does any of that have to do with a developer who took kickstarter money developing for a console that was already on the consumer market for a long time?

Sorry, but you can't justify every troll-ish attack with "derp, Wii U is too weak"...fortunately since then the developer has released new statements that supposedly clarify his initial statement.

Re: Road Redemption's Wii U Release is Looking Rather Doubtful

Action51

@gatorboi352

Reading down through the comments, at the point where you posted, not one person was "defending this console"...they were upset that promises from a developer were broken, but no one was "defending" the console.

What blows my mind is that in 2016, people are still whining about this console and trolling people who own it and like it.

I really don't understand this need to obsess over a console that clearly is not for you. It's been over four years now...the end of production is on the horizon.

Maybe it's time to stop "attacking this console" and move on with your life?

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

Action51

@Vincent294 - What you're doing is called "moving the goalposts" (an American Football reference) meaning that you've changed the parameters of the discussion after you've been corrected.

You were talking about ideas that were "first" to other consoles, and I pointed out that those were innovated on PC.

Obviously consoles do not populate these concepts as you claim...with the exception of Nintendo. In fact it's more often then not likely an "innovation" found on a Playstation or Xbox console started on PC or Nintendo first.

Sorry.

Re: Digital Foundry Breaks Down the Resolution and Framerate in Pokkén Tournament

Action51

@GamePerson19 - A lot of people don't understand how resolution works in regards to gaming.

Your TV has a resolution of 1920x1080p if it's a typical modern HD tv.
.
The Wii U is capable of rendering out to 1920x1080p as per the hardware
.
Not all games will utilize the full allowable resolution, and the hardware will "up-rez" or stretch the image to fill the full screen.
.
Think of it like a youtube video: many are created on low resolution cameras like 480 or 720, but you can bump them to full screen...but the same quality of video is just being stretched to fit your screen.

Re: Digital Foundry Breaks Down the Resolution and Framerate in Pokkén Tournament

Action51

@rushiosan - I don't understand...the PS4 and XB1 struggle to hit 30fps in most major releases.

So is performance just resolution?

I know a lot of games have suffered on PS4 and XB1 because devs were forced by obnoxious game journalists and memes to boost their resolution to 1080p despite not being able to handle it...and as such they run at low, clunky frame-rates with many advanced effects removed.

Is that what you're talking about here?

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

Action51

@PlywoodStick

You say: "That's entirely Nintendo's fault."

Are you kidding me?
Let's get real for a second.

____

It's first and foremost the fault of the person who buys into the rumor. It's not confirmed, and there is no official word, so a reasonable person would temper their expectations and remember that the internet is brimming with hoaxes and misinformation.

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, then I probably haven't been on the internet long, eh?

Secondly, it's the games media and hype industry that feeds off of the lazy reporting and rumor mongering. They are all so eager to scoop each other and put out the articles that will earn the clicks.

Finally, it's the hoaxster's fault....because you know...THEY perpetrated a HOAX!

In the end, you can throw a million surveys and percentages into the air, but it's not Nintendo's fault in any way shape or form. They can't be responsible for what some prankster does, and you have to have a healthy skepticism in today's world.

It's actually quite ridiculous and absurd to blame Nintendo for YOU believing a fraud instead of being more level-headed and waiting for confirmation.

Nintendo is under no obligation to release product information on any timeline but their own, and that's a decision that are free to make and must deal with the consequences of their actions alone...only someone pushing an agenda would use such a flimsy and pathetic argument to say otherwise.

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

Action51

@Mogster - It's not Nintendo's job to push their plans ahead because so many people on the internet were duped into believing whatever some hoaxster throws together.

For all their claims of being plugged in and sophisticated, this generation are still naive and easily manipulated by hype.

What's really important, is what the NX will actually be when officially revealed, and how well they market it...these fake rumors will be forgotten when the real info arrives from Nintendo officially.

Re: Editorial: A Week When NX 'Leaks' Were Thankfully Fake and New Tricks Were Used

Action51

It's really sad how all the haters and Nintendoomers are licking their wounds and trying to claim that the NX "could be" these things...and then blaming Nintendo for not giving them more information.

The rampant speculation is hilarious...meanwhile, all these people who are so "concerned" about what Nintendo will do next could have been enjoying the Wii U they refused to buy because some lazy game journalist called the Gamepad a "gimmick" a few years back.

It's really sad.

On the bright side, NintendoLife's coverage has been pretty careful and doesn't come with the excessive editorializing and click-bait found on other sites.

Re: Miitomo Makes Storming Debut on iOS in Japan

Action51

Reading this comment section, does anyone else get the impression some people REALLY wanted this to fail, and are stretching and flailing to find any reason to lash out at those who don't share their pessimism?

"only number two? It must be number one or it's total failure!"

"yes, but animated rabbits and badges and Amiibo and all the other Nintendo stuff you're supposed to hate...remember that? Hate that more!"

"yes well, as an official Jr video game sales expert, I can conclude that this is bad because of reasons, and since I am an expert Jr. video game sales analyst, if you disagree I call nanny-nanny-boo-boo on you!"

Re: Video: Zordix Makes a Splash With Updated Aqua Moto Racing Utopia Footage

Action51

@KrakenSoup Indies do what big studios don't.

Extreme sports and snowboarding/watercaft games were big in the 90s, but now these games are made by smaller studios.

The last time we saw something like this was the extremely disappointing reboot of Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

Please people: Stop pretending it's 1996...while I admit the music was much better back then, the video game industry has moved on.

Re: Video: Zordix Makes a Splash With Updated Aqua Moto Racing Utopia Footage

Action51

All the people whining about Waverace64:

People...OMG...give it up, that game was decades ago and those types of games don't get made by big studios anymore.

Now, take a deep breath and look at the footage of this game: It looks good, and it looks FUN.

Stop whining about F-Zero and Waverace - which are games that if Nintendo rebooted you would HATE anyway, and be happy studios like Shi'nen and Zordix are making modern, HD versions of these games.

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Showed a Renewed - Albeit Temporary - Focus on the Current Generation

Action51

@TrueWiiMaster - Repeating the same wrong information doesn't change it's validity, or the context.

I was talking about the negativity mongers who were telling us that the Wii U was "dead" and no new games were coming to it since the NX announcement.

If you weren't among those people, there's no reason to be defending that.

However: New games have been announced like Pokken Tournament and Paper Mario...and Sharp FE and Zelda U were also re-confirmed despite absolutely no official word whatsoever that they wouldn't be coming to Wii U...In fact they only needed to be re-confirmed because of the wild speculation and negativity I'm talking about in the first place.

Re: Impressive Fire Emblem Fates Sales Ensure It Makes an Impact on US Charts

Action51

It's funny...

I'm a person who owns a physical copy of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, played through both GBA games, and yet does not own either half of Fates, or it's DLC campaign.

I didn't want to pay $80 for the full game, and couldn't decide which half of the game I wanted to play for the price of a full game.

Also, I didn't like any of the new ideas or changes... like face petting, dragon-born super powers, pheonix (baby) mode and reduction in challenge...re-using and wedging in the marriage and offspring mechanic for what is presumably a whole other story that also must use the same time travel mechanic....?...or?

So FIre Emblem is now a big hit with the waifu lover crowd and visual novel fans...but at what price to the real fans?

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

Action51

@Sinister - thanks for the reply.

I kept hearing so much hate for Sticker Star, but not being a fan of Paper Mario I didn't know why.

I figured it might be like Skyward Sword, which seems to get a ton of hate that isn't really deserved, or it could be like Metroid Other M which gets a ton of hate which is partially deserved.

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Showed a Renewed - Albeit Temporary - Focus on the Current Generation

Action51

@TrueWiiMaster - My point is that we kept hearing how there will be no new games for Wii U, and that all focus has been shifted to NX by gaming media and negativity trolls.

...Yet they keep announcing new games for Wii U.

It doesn't matter if it's three or three dozen since the Wii U has had sparse software releases for it's entire lifespan, so this year's release schedule isn't much different at all.

Re: Ubisoft Is Trying To Quell Beyond Good And Evil 2 NX Rumours

Action51

This is the kind of game that would do well on a Nintendo platform, one would think...

The original had charm, interesting characters, and a Zelda like gameplay structure.

Of course it's Ubisoft, so they'll probably turn it into a generic "gritty" stealth game...and be poorly optimized for consoles and buggy.

Re: Interview: Former Retro Studios Man Rhys Lewis on Going Alone With Star Ghost on Wii U

Action51

@LemonSlice - First off, I think he's talking from a developer's perspective. There's not much motivation to really develop something special because unless you get lucky, you'll be buried under a pile of mediocrity and Candy Crush clones.

The thing is, when garbage gets released on the Eshop, it's much easier to sort out and the great games get noticed and praised and rise to the top.

On mobile platforms, a game like Affordable Space Adventures, Gunman Clive, or Sportsball might linger in obscurity and never get the recognition it deserves.

Re: Talking Point: The Latest Nintendo Direct Showed a Renewed - Albeit Temporary - Focus on the Current Generation

Action51

Remember how since E3 2015 and the announcement of NX being developed, all we heard from the gaming media and always-negatives was:

"There's no new games coming for Wii U...the Wii U is dead, Zelda and Starfox will be the last games coming for Wii U and those will probably be on NX."

I kept saying we'll have to just wait and see, Nintendo doesn't always talk about games a year or more in advance...they doubled down and insisted anyone who didn't join their Wii U death cult was a "delusional fanboy".

I'm not expecting an apology or Mea culpa from those kind of people, they only live for negativity.

Re: Poll: Did the Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Kickstart 2016?

Action51

Not liking Federation Force.

it could be a lot better if it didn't look so bland with super-deformed big head characters.

Now before anyone accuses me of being a dude bro only interested in "realistic graphics" I assure you that's not the case. I love Mario, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Pushmo, Shovel Knight etc...

Here's the problem: Metroid is best when it maintains a certain tone. It's dark, atmospheric, creepy, and isolated. Federation Force captures none of this from anything I've seen.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

Action51

As someone who has never really been into the Paper Mario series...

What is the deal with Sticker Star hate?

People treat it like it's the worst thing ever and a pestilence to all mankind. What made Sticker Star so terrible and hated for all these years?

Re: Nintendo Warns It'll Block Rule Breaker's Access to Super Mario Maker's Online Features

Action51

@Iggly - Yeah!

How dare Nintendo have rules! Other gaming companies can have rules and codes of conduct longer then a J.R.R. Tolkien novel...but Nintendo is EVIL because they ask people to be courteous and not cheat!

Also...Super Mario Maker is just dull and boring if you can't beg for stars. Truly, the core content of the game is "no fun" if you aren't begging people to star your uninspired, broken level.

Re: Talking Point: It's Catch-Up Time for Nintendo Direct, With North America and Europe Having Different Priorities

Action51

Reality Check:

Expect hype for upcoming releases. These directs aren't always directed at the industry following types who frequent sites like this one.

The average Joe consumer may not have even been aware that a new Star Fox was in the works.

So remember before you rage: These directs are meant to inform average consumers of upcoming releases...not to pander to a laundry list of wild demands and expectations from entitled game industry following nerds.
