Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

Abeedo

It's crazy to me how many people are hating on them, but haven't properly read the article.
They aren't saying nintendo dlc will be a mistake years down the line. As stated by the article they are talking about the immediate future. Many people might not know this, but when mario kart 8 dropped on wii u, it got a bunch of dlc within its first year of release. They're talking about this model, not the model of releasing dlc years after like they did for mk8 deluxe on switch. If they priced Mario Kart World at 80 dollars, then decided to announce dlc that is scheduled to release in the coming year in the upcoming direct that would rile up a lot of fans. I don't why this opinion is any less valid just because they're ex-nintendo employees.

@Shambo Tbh I didn't read the comments after me so I didn't know about the chat getting toxic. I think that while they might have better, more understandable reasons that they didn't voice, it's not unreasonable for me to object to the silly views that they did voice. Hopefully the comments don't get more ridiculous in the future, as it appears that things have escalated rapidly.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 20th)

This week I haven't been gaming much (other than a little bit of Fortnite, but that's a given by now) because I've been caught up with some traveling. And not the fun traveling that you do on vacation; this was the boring and lengthy work-related travels. As a result I've started listening to audiobooks, specifically Robert Lois Stevenson's Treasure Island, narrated by Michael Page as part of Brilliance Audio's The Adventure Collection. I was surprised at how engaged I was with Jim Hawkins and the many dangerously exciting adventures he faced after leaving the Admiral Benbow. Much of the classic literature targeted towards children that I've read (looking at you The Wizard of Oz) have aged poorly, and are filled with shallow stories and one note characters, so listening to a story that has remained interesting in this day and age was refreshing.

Now I know some people may call me out for straying off the topic of gaming (understandably so, given the nature of this website) I'll try and loosely connect the topic back to video games. Later this year, two games about pirates, or at least two that I know of, will be releasing; Return to Monkey Island and Skull and Bones. There's only one of these titles that interests me (the former), so I've decided to listen to this book not because it's an exhilarating tale full of danger and daring, but because I am "doing my homework" for some video games that I may play sometime this decade (There! I hope that's a good enough excuse for the restless Nintendolifians reading this passage, if any of you even got this far). Overall it's a title I'd highly recommend, with a fantastic narration to boot. If in the unlikely event you run out if time for video games, I'd say you should give it a try.

This week I've taken a break from Fortnite, and have made more progress in Live Alive. It's a very fun game, and each chapter offers up a lot of variety so if I don't like the style of one I don't have to be stuck in it for long.

Other than that I've decided to pick up Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn books again. Fitting, since partway through the first book I discovered that the main character has appeared in Fortnite despite not having any tv show or movie appearances prior. Will my life forever be linked to Fortnite? I don't know. All I'm going to say is that for now I'm here for it.

Since, after much anticipation, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has finally released this weekend, I've decided to be a master procrastinator and go off and start the game Live Alive. I've only just finished the Imperial China chapter, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Despite the story being simple in some places, it's really well presented. The combination of voice acting (Japanese in my case) and Yoko Shimomura's remastered soundtrack really elevates the experience.

Also, in order to avoid so much getting overwhelmed by playing new games, I've been hopping on Fortnite to keep the nerves steady. Everytime I think the game might get stale, some new stuff is added that pulls me back. I've decided that I will no longer be ashamed of my addiction, and instead will wholeheartedly promote this game that has acted as my saviour.

I still haven't escaped from the prison that is Fortnite. Less than a month in since the season started and I've already unlocked the tier 100 Darth Vader skin, finally completing my transformation to the dark side. Now it's time to no life my way up to the tier 200 skins. May the force be with me 😔.

Re: Monkey Island's Creator Seemingly Shuts Down Blog After Personal Attacks

Abeedo

I was a bit sceptical about the art style after seeing stills earlier this year, but when this newest trailer came out, seeing it in motion made me love it. It's a given that this sort of art style won't be for everyone, and it's ok to give constructive criticism sometimes if said in a respectful manner, but the comments left on Ron Gilbert's personal blog had crossed the line way too much. A new game in their favourite series gets announced, and these people just attack and berate the creator in the most entitled way possible. I hope Ron gets to know that so many people are excited for this new release, and that shutting down everything is just letting the small group of haters win. Though with these sorts of things, mental health is most important of all, so he should do what's best for him.

Re: Review: Capcom Fighting Collection - An Essential Buy For One-On-One Fighting Fans

Abeedo

I don't think the reviewer realises how many people buying this collection have actually played these games before. Besides you'll never see anyone say that about the latest rerelease of a Mario or a Zelda game, despite the fact that they probably had a lot more people playing them based off of sales numbers and accessibility (playing them from the comfort of your couch.)

Re: Fall Guys Is Now Live And Playable On Switch

Abeedo

@HotGoomba Lol it's money that probably would've gone into a title that would just be sitting on the backlog anyways, unless you're one of those rare Nintendolifians that don't have a fat stack of games sitting on their desk, making them feel guilty.

Re: Review: Fall Guys - The World’s Most Chaotic Game Show Lands On Switch, Now F2P

@ModdedInkling Wasn't the PS Plus release the thing that skyrocketed awareness for the game in the first place? Not only did it become the most redeemed PS Plus game of all time, but it was also the number one streamed game upon release if my memory serves me right. I'd say without that boost there wouldn't be nearly as much people who heard about the game and were waiting for it to go free to play.

@Dragonslacker1 Tell Me I'm Worthless seems like an interesting book. I like reading dark stuff from time to time (the last one I read being Malice by Keigo Higashino, a book that was more crime than horror but still a little twisted) so this might appeal to me. If you find any more light-hearted books feel free to tell me.
