Re: 3DS System Update 11.15.0-47 Is Now Live

@Caryslan Honestly if you don't update the 3DS you should be fine. When you follow the main guides for cfw you end up installing particular updater apps. These are useful for when Nintendo releases an update to block homebrew, as modders would develop a counterpatch that once installed would allow you to update safely. This is a common thing that happens every year or so. Also there is no requirement to update at all so if you ignore it you should be fine for the most part.

@AstroNomad I think he's saying that because he's against cfw overall. I hear that all the update does is patch some browser exploits that allowed people to install cfw. You should be fine if you already have cfw installed. However, it's better to wait some time and read up on the effects of the update as it only has been a couple of hours. The 3ds already works absolutely fine without the newest update, and I doubt online is affected in any way by it. There really is not a lot of reason for you to update really. The only reason it even exists is to patch Amy vulnerabilities that may allow users to install cfw (which will likely be circumvented in a very short time, but at least Nintendo can say they tried).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 24th)

Abeedo

Right now I'm playing through Psychonauts for the first time. I've heard it's quite funny and it's nice to see that the game lives up to expectations. I find many 2000s games (like Beyond Good and Evil) to have mediocre stories so I'm glad to see Psychonauts' writing is legitimately good (although I'm not sure if the gameplay is up to snuff). Otherwise I might continue playing Chrono Trigger if I end up getting my 3DS fixed this weekend.

Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Revealed For Switch, Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel Also Heading West

@VoidofLight I've noticed that to be a growing trend with many classic 90s anime. Shows like Pokemon, Beyblades, and Yu Gi Oh seem to be focussing on appealing to younger children, and as a result leaving older fans behind. I feel like they overlook the fact that the reason we got into these shows in the first place was because of their cooler and edgier (in a good sense) designs.

Re: Switch OLED Success "Could Set A Precedent For Charging More Across The Industry", Analyst Warns

@Nourldean Most console manufacturer takes a loss when they sell consoles at the beginning. Even recently Valve has said so with the steam deck. Software is where the real money lies, but they can't get them into the hands of the people unless consoles have been bought at affordable prices beforehand. Nintendo knew their consumers were asking for a console that can match modern consoles. Instead they developed one that was underpowered and slow compared to even the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation. Nintendo thought people would buy the gimmicky iwi u in droves because they're Nintendo. However most hardcore gamers were turned off by how out of touch Nintendo were with industry standards, and casual gamers, the lifeblood of the Wii, had no idea what the Wii u even was, and were likely satisfied with just the Wii console. Any gamer could've predicted the Wii u would've failed, yet Nintendo were too arrogant to make a console with hardware that people actually wanted because they thought they were too big to fail.

Re: Octopath Traveler Teases Sequel On Its Third Anniversary

There's a lot of aspects to this game that I think are appealing. The music, the art and the gameplay all look wonderful. However games like these live and die by their story, and Octopath's narrative is firmly in the "die" camp for me. I am really looking forward to the Dragon Quest 3 remake. Project Triangle Strategy also looks to have a vastly more appealing narrative, so I'll likely pick that up upon release.

Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Switch Trailer Removes 60fps Perk Of Original Video

Abeedo

@Indielink Well Skywards been boosted to 1080p. Also the textures for Sonic still look like they came from the wii game, so I'd say they haven't done as much work on it as you think. I did say though that Sonic is multiplatform which means the team has to get the game working on a number of platforms. Likely due to time constraints they didn't have the time to optimise the game to 60fps.

Re: Danganronpa: Decadence Locks In A December Release For North America And Europe

Abeedo

All my mates in uni have jumped on the Danganronpa train this year and I've felt peer pressured to get into the franchise. However something about the games has put me off. Maybe it's the character designs (which I personally find unappealing) or the story (which looks like saw if it was on a sugar rush). Hopefully the games prove me wrong and I actually manage to enjoy them in the future.
