Re: Review: Beast Quest - Don't Be A Hero, Stick With The Books

Abeedo

Beast Quest is not really a rich source of inspiration. As a kid I read a lot of Beast Quest, but the series was primarily designed as a way to get young readers to but as many books as possible. As far as I remember there was over 40 books in the series, a number which made it impossible to focus on creating quality books. As much as I read the series as a kid, I always recognized books by Roald Dahl, JK Rowling and to a lesser extent the early wimpy kid books all had better writing.

Re: Random: Sans From Undertale Makes His Debut As A Professional Wrestler

@RareFan To be fair Sonic's time in the spotlight was mostly because of how terrible the design is. I'd say Rick and Morty was already getting more popular, and the memes behind it exploded because everybody was already watching the show and understood the references. Same with Avengers, that film was the highest grossing film of all time and that helped the success of the movie's memes.
Also I'd like to point out that aside from a small pocket of people in the internet, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who watches My Little Pony (unless it's someone's younger sibling). It's really not as popular as you may think it is.

Re: Review: Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition - A Pure Work Of Magic

Abeedo

@aznable Honestly that's is just common for Nintendolife reviews. No matter how good the game is, if it isn't developed exclusively by Nintendo, any of the companies they own, or a company they've partnered with, then the maximum score the game will ever receive is a nine. I've noticed this with plenty of amazing indie experiences that many believe are a lot more memorable and enjoyable than a Nintendo developed game (e.g Splatoon 2). It's an annoying fact but it shouldn't take away from how much you enjoy a game, especially since opinions (including mine) can be very subjective

Re: Police Confirm That YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah Has Died

Abeedo

Many people like Etika are driven to end their life as they feel that they have no other way to rid themselves of the pain. The thing is that suicide is never a last resort. It can be hard, but if you keep trudging along with your life, and aim to be a better version of yourself, things can change for the better. Don't spend your time regretting the past. There's nothing that can be changed about it. Instead look at the past with open eyes, and learn from it. That's the only way we can live better lives

Re: Review: My Friend Pedro - Totally And Utterly Bananas

Abeedo

@Bunkerneath There's a lot of games which I didn't like or got bored with in the first couple of hours (e.g. Super Mario Odyssey) but ended up loving after spending more time to understand the mechanics and the game's appeal. To be fair it's not hard to move on in this day and age due to the large amount of backlogs everybody seems to have, but I do think you should at least stick with Hollow Knight for a decent amount of time. The game gets better the more you play

Re: Reminder: Peachette Comes To Smash Bros. Ultimate Today As An Event-Exclusive Spirit

Abeedo

@AtlanteanMan The content can be gotten at any time in the game, it was just added in celebration of this event. The event itself make the spirits appear more often in an effort to encourage people who aren't bothered to wait in spirits mode to log into the game. That said I totally agree with what you said. However timed events can also make games feel more special (e.g. memories of specific splatfests etc.) It does suck when you cant experience it because you're busy though, so I understand that

Re: Get Some Shut-Eye When Pokémon Sleep Arrives Next Year

Abeedo

The Pokemon Company in 2020: We have developed an app called Pokemon Live. It will tell you what you are supposed to be doing at all times. Stomach levels lowering? Notification to eat! Funny joke said among friends? Notification to laugh! Pokemon Live will live your life for you! Also Pokemon have something to do with it... I think...

Re: Wandersong

Abeedo

@Mamabear Will do. May be months down the line though, but I'll keep it in mind

Re: Wandersong

Abeedo

@Mamabear Yeah Star Allies looks pretty underwhelming. Nowadays I don't spend as much money on games, so I make sure the games that I try are high quality. Thanks for your advice btw!

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Save States, Rewinds And Walkthroughs

Abeedo

Save states should be used sparingly. Years ago I hated Sonic 1 and I kept dying and using save states. Years later I replayed the game without the save states, and built up skill in the game to finish it (the game wasn't even that hard). Beating it without external help was satisfying. Adventure games suck at this though. The puzzles are obscure as hell, and cant be solved on their own without help from a walkthrough. Thimbleweed park had some dumb puzzle where you had to follow somebody through a forest. The way to do this was to click on some random trophy in a characters room, decide, yeah maybe I should fill it up with the NUCLEAR WASTE then pour it into a puddle, so that when they walked through the forest they would leave chemical footprints that literally glow. Not only was this puzzle hard to figure by yourself, you end up damaging the person you are following's health, as well as the health of the forest and its wildlife. If you need a guide to enjoy a game, that isn't your fault, that's just bad game design.
